Deila and Hutter bedding into their new teams

1385

There are parallels between Salzburg and Celtic.  After an outstanding season Salzburg lost their coach, Roger Schmidt, in May to Bayer Leverkusen, appointing Adolf Hutter (commentators beware), who previously managed Austrian Bundesliga club Grodig and is largely unknown outside Austria.

Unlike Ronny Deila, Hutter has not tried to change Salzburg’s system, but the period of transformation has been blamed for Salzburg failing to overcome Malmo in the Champions League play-off round (Malmo taxed Juventus in Turin last night before two second half Tevez goals settled things).  New instructions, new training techniques and, in some cases, new personnel present challenges.

Ronny has had a few false starts but the return of Scott Brown at the weekend, the return to form of Kris Commons, who will surely start, and the addition of Scepovic, Tonev and Wakaso to the squad give reason for confidence.

We’ve had over 3,000 responses so far to the survey on Celtic fans, who they are, where they came from, and what their views are.  The results will give an excellent insight into this time in our history.  If you’ve not had a chance to leave your mark yet, please do so here (only your first submission counts).

I have no idea what is going to happen to the Scottish banks, I’m not sure anybody does, is that not initself a worry. Regards the banks I did say it was a two way street, just like interest rates.

  3. How about a post referendum dinner who can come up with a menu, a large portion of humble pie is bound to feature on either Yes or No menu. Hail Hail Hebcelt

A Yes vote will be quickly followed by the opening of The Money and Currency Games..

When they came for the English, I said nothing,

When they came for the Green Brigade, I said nothing.

When they came for the supermarkets, I said nothing….

  6. A yes vote will ensure currency union being agreed right away.

They won’t hum and haw on that one.

    Stability. Business as usual.

That’s the front that they will need/have to put on.

    They have no option.

  7. A wee prediction:

If there’s a ‘NO’ vote tomorrow, we’ll be faced with years of grinding our teeth, while the gap between rich and poor grows.

That said, the chances are that most of us (even the poorest, though the gap between rich and poor will be wider) will be better off.

Our disgust at the lack of any meaningful devolution of power will, however, be palpable.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us to make a real difference to the way our country is run.

Not since the 1945 general election has our country had an opportunity like this.

In a politically stable country, blessed with talent and natural resources most nations can only dream of, we have a chance to reshape our political landscape and make our politicians accountable in a manner which is simply impossible under the Westminster system.

Use your vote; vote ‘YES’ …

Mind you, I wouldn’t be fazed by some angry female smacking me about. Mrs. P wouldn’t put up with the competition. (thumbsup)

  9. Philvis,

i had a rather unsettling (in fact it was more disturbing than unsettling) conversation, if it could be called that, with my barber re Nicola Sturg……i cant even type her name because of the images it conjures now.

Now for you to inform me of the potential fate that awaits me on Friday or beyond…….you got a room for rent in your mansion down there? bedroom tax notwithstanding of course…

Additionally I have not been on the blog much recently, but going by a couple of posts including your oqn earlier, can I take it that you have recently become a father? If so hearty congratulations indeed my good man. There is no greater joy than fatherhood in my humble opinion. Even if occassionally you do feel like throttling the wee buggers :-)

    Very quickly…

“You’ll hear complaints, invoking Godwin’s Law, about BBC bias in “comparing” Independent Scotland to the rise of Hitler (even though the direct comparison was with the Weimar Republic, you know, the jolly musical bits in the bleak film Cabaret)…”

You see, I have an advantage over most CQNers in that I know you and like you, and thus can just about see the lump of your tongue in your cheek, but others who don’t know you might very well read that and consider it profoundly disingenuous.

  13. I am treating my dad to a weekend away next week to Tighnabruaich. I would be grateful to any local based bhoys that could advise best pub to watch live Celtic and EPL football. I understand its a long shot as its such a small place. Thanks again for any advice.

  14. On a disturbing note, I was in a restaurant last night.

No sooner had I sat down than a man threw a prawn cocktail at me.

‘What was that for ?’ I said

    ‘Thats just for starters’.

  15. TBB

“but others who don’t know you might very well read that and consider it profoundly disingenuous.”

It was most definitely and deliberately disingenuous. I very much doubt that it was profoundly so.

To clarify, however, I do not blame the Weimar Republic for the rise of Hitler. That I blame on the Nazi Basturks that backed hm and the Hindenburgs and Ribbentrops that accomodated him and were exploited by him.

No, I blame the Weimar republic only for its economic competence. That is the similarity, analogy and comparison that I am , disingenuously, going for.

And wee Alex isn’t even planning to give us the decadence and the good tunes from Brecht/Weil to add to the package. The proclaimers, Hue & Cry and Deacon Blue are just not decadent enough.

  16. More warnings for Scots if they vote ‘Yes’ tomorrow, as former Italian Prime Minster Enrico Letta says an independent Scotland could lead to further EU decline.

“The UK is one of the pillars of the single market, of big international trade agreements and is so important in Europe that the consequence will be maybe the start of the true decline of the European Union” he said.

Nothing to do with South Tyrol of course……or even the North of Italy……

  17. My problem with the upcoming referendum vote is this.

I find it hard to believe that Nicola Sturgeon is in fact a real person.

To me she looks like she’s made of plastic and if she is well that’s just taking the piss.

    Vote no.

  18. In the event independence being rejected

After the next crash, expected around 2018, you won’t find a no voter.

No one will admit they voted No.

  19. It’s a pity the game tomorrow clashes with the referectum vote.

I know what I’ll be watching on the telly.

    Thank you!

Yes, he was a little angel yesterday. Until bed time.

I played with him on his mat, fed him, gave him a bath, changed him, and then it was bed time for The Wee Man.

He smiled at me. “Da da!”

“Yes,” I replied, “I’m your Da Da. Goodnight, tiny man!”

He was a smiling, happy, sleepy baby till I put him down in his cot. Then, as if his switch was suddenly set to “evil”… “WAAAAAAAAARRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!”

I tried rocking him in my arms, turning on his “sleep sheep”, and finally, Calpol. The result was:

    “AAAARRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!”

We were out of ideas, so I closed his door and reassured Mrs. P that he’d tire himself out soon.

Two hours later, he was still going strong, and had added a gurgling tone to his cries, not unlike a dying giraffe… “GRRRRAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!”

He finally got to sleep at around midnight, by which time Mrs P was too tired for the Philvis snuggles I was led to understand we’d be doing.

Sometimes I think he just doesn’t want any brothers or sisters. (thumbsup)

Complete cobblers. No way will they refuse to “keep” us in.

Leave it to Cameron’s english Tory boys and they will make sure that you are voted OUT of the EU without your agreement. How’s that for bitter together democracy? How d’ye like dem apples?

  26. Folly Folly:

Regardless of which way the vote goes I think the actions and in the vast main – behaviour of the Scottish people has put the wind up a lot more governments than Westminster; it has also got a lot of bankers worried too. There is a lot of empathy down here for the Scots and again, regardless of which way the referendum vote goes, I believe the populace both north and south of the border, and abroad too, are going to hold their elected members more accountable.

I think there are a lot of politicians, all over the world, bricking it after what they have witnessed in Scotland. I still think that a YES is bad for Scotland and the safety and future of our children would be best served, for the time being at least, in the union.
