Demonise Celtic and fawn SFA Ogilvie

898

You’re victim of a costly refereeing failure, what do you do?  Celtic wrote to the SFA for clarification.    There was no demand for censure of the officials or a ban for the Inverness player.

In 2011, when the SFA were victim of a costly refereeing error against Czech Republic, Association president, Campbell Ogilvie, took it upon himself to write to Uefa demanding the referee who failed to correctly interpret a penalty incident, be marked down, and that the player who dived is excluded from the remainder of the competition.  The Daily Record glowingly reported the actions here.

The SFA set a precedent: after being hard done by, demand action against the referee.  Don’t just let supervisory processes take their course.  This is the standard set by Campbell Ogilvie.

“An SFA spokesman” also made it his business to brief a grateful media on the actions of Mr Ogilvie.  This was a coordinated campaign by the SFA against a match official, as well as an attempt to circumvent process.

Is this fair enough?  Well, I don’t remember an outcry at the time.  A referee made a bad mistake in an important game.  Standards should have been higher.  The SFA would have been within their rights to say so, although they had no business trying to influence referee supervisory processes.  If only we had a competent administrator who would realise this.

Celtic are within their rights to say standards should be higher now and instead of trying to mislead by suggesting no one in the ground was convinced Celtic should have had a penalty, the SFA should acknowledge that standards can and must improve.

Saying that would shut Celtic up and give them nothing to MORE complain about.  Instead of being concerned by the actions of SFA referee chief Fleming.

What you will note is the utter contempt shown for your club by many for writing a letter asking for clarification, even from those who lauded Campbell Ogilvie for demanding a referee is demoted.  Celtic are the last superpower standing after the Long Cold War, but we’ll always be the enemy to some.  We may well win the next 30 league titles, but as long as Campbell ‘What school did you go to?’ Ogilvie is in charge at Hampden, you’ll know what we’re up against.

Great three points last night.  Particularly delighted for Gary Mackay-Steven.  He, and Stuart Armstrong, are still finding their feet at Celtic.  It will be next season before we see the best of them (think Stefan Johansen circa April 2014), but the early signs are encouraging.

Big Virgil had a better record from free kicks than we had from penalties a couple of seasons ago!

That’s the great pity….Celtic fans cant agree about anything.

Well I totally agree, the point that I tried to make was regarding the “deliberate” hand ball.

  9. As this three ring circus (SFA/CO/Referees Body) rumbles/staggers along – can anyone throw light on the Referee’s Report?

Do the Club get a copy? If so – why have they not published the content? Is it deemed ‘sub judice’ if it contains anything contentious or something that might result in disciplinary punishment (and appeal)?

Exactly what content has McLean logged; the minutes leading up to half-time, the subsequent reaction and furore as the players were leaving the field? What was logged at the end of ET – including the reasons that led to VvD’s yellow?

We as a support have incredible collective power, im amazed we don’t use it.

Im sure we will all argue about the finer points, but ultimately, its blatant cheating.

We could put a stop to it, if we really wanted to.

When you think about it, fans of deadclub never talk about being cheated, nor were they ever called paranoid. In fact they can only ever dredge up the 77 handball or the 89 throw in.

Nothing to do with them being magnanimous or good sports etc, but totally down to the fact that have been the major beneficiary of honest mistakes over the decades, and they know it.

Tony Mowbray must have been on the receiving end of more rank bad decisions than the huns were in 20 years up till they croaked.

Celtic need to continue to analyse this,we have been cheated yet all those doing the cheating are home free, what about 30K people @circa £30 per head being made mugs of..

  25. Lots of comment around the penalty that never was the last few days obviously but the PoTY names have now been announced and I am really surprised that Celtic captain Scott Brown is not quoted. Just a personal view but I thought when he has been on form he has been the driving force. 3 players in our team I don’t think we can afford to lose long term aware Brown, Gordon and VVD. Denayer is far and away the YPoTY and the Bhoy has a wonderful future in the game ahead of him. I hope Man City think that another season at Celtic would serve him best.

Stefan Johanssen has had an excellent season and deserves plaudits for his improvement this season but still does not convert enough chances for me. Should have had a first half hat trick when we lost to United at Tannadice a few months ago. He is improving though and if he wins PoTY I will be delighted for him. Nir Bitton may just be our most improved player this season. His style of play means that he must get a run of games and gain confidence. He is a playmaker and a Paul Lambert style player who retains the ball but can also be a threat going forward. Nir needs to add goals to his game. Griffiths and Guidetti have had a strange season between them. Both have had their red hot streaks, both have had issues off the pitch and both have been in and out of the team for periods. Between them they have proved to be able strikers but they haven’t been able to prove consistent in front of goal. Jury is out on the 1 up front. Griffiths has proved at Hibs he can play there and score a bucket load of goals but Guidetti does appear to have that wee bit extra quality.

    ‘The Green Man @ 20:00

Whether it is deliberate or not does not change the offence one bit. It is another red herring that’s been stuck in there.’

    ###

I’m not sure how anyone could come to that conclusion.

This is what the FIFA Laws of the Game says:

    Law 12

    ‘Handling the ball

Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with

the ball with his hand or arm. The referee must take the following into

    consideration:

    • the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)

    • the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)

    • the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an

    infringement

    • touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing, shinguard, etc.)

    counts as an infringement

    • hitting the ball with a thrown object (boot, shinguard, etc.) counts as an

    infringement

    Disciplinary sanctions

There are circumstances when a caution for unsporting behaviour is required

when a player deliberately handles the ball, e.g. when a player:

    • deliberately handles the ball to prevent an opponent gaining possession

    • attempts to score a goal by deliberately handling the ball

A player is sent off, however, if he prevents a goal or an obvious goalscoring

opportunity by deliberately handling the ball. This punishment arises not from

the act of the player deliberately handling the ball but from the unacceptable

and unfair intervention that prevented a goal being scored.’

  27. clogher celt

As MA said in the post above yours…………..

The game itself, no we didn’t play well, but as I said the other night, and I still believe it to be true, our players are not good enough to overcome the cheating, we have to play to a different set of rules to our opposition, this makes things very difficult for us, it level the playing field for the others, hence we find it hard to win trebles, we find it hard to win leagues.

I wonder what Ronny thinks he has taken on, all his good planning goes oot the windy in a flash, cos some hun bigot decides to cheat, how feckin sad is that, and we facilitate it, that is even sadder IMO.

  29. Post continued….

    Dropped ma phone! Hahaha

Right back is still our problem area. Matthews can play there and so can Lustig. When our defence gets settled we lose one or both for a period and poor Efe is thrown in. He is not a full back and I would like to see him in a midfield role or a 3 at the back which would allow our full backs licence to go forward and give us pace and protection at the back. Effectively Efe would play the role Victor played for us.

Izzy is a cracking player and gives his all in the Hoops. He is not great in the air and can be caught out defensively. Play 3 at the back.

We need a new back up keeper. Zaluska has spent too long out of the picture.

No harm to the boy from Dundee but I have no idea how he is in the PoTY short list. Hope VVD wins it. If not Stefan obviously as the other Celtic player but suspect Rooney will win it banging in probably 30 goals by the season end you probably can’t grudge him it either!
