Demonise Celtic and fawn SFA Ogilvie

898

You’re victim of a costly refereeing failure, what do you do?  Celtic wrote to the SFA for clarification.    There was no demand for censure of the officials or a ban for the Inverness player.

In 2011, when the SFA were victim of a costly refereeing error against Czech Republic, Association president, Campbell Ogilvie, took it upon himself to write to Uefa demanding the referee who failed to correctly interpret a penalty incident, be marked down, and that the player who dived is excluded from the remainder of the competition.  The Daily Record glowingly reported the actions here.

The SFA set a precedent: after being hard done by, demand action against the referee.  Don’t just let supervisory processes take their course.  This is the standard set by Campbell Ogilvie.

“An SFA spokesman” also made it his business to brief a grateful media on the actions of Mr Ogilvie.  This was a coordinated campaign by the SFA against a match official, as well as an attempt to circumvent process.

Is this fair enough?  Well, I don’t remember an outcry at the time.  A referee made a bad mistake in an important game.  Standards should have been higher.  The SFA would have been within their rights to say so, although they had no business trying to influence referee supervisory processes.  If only we had a competent administrator who would realise this.

Celtic are within their rights to say standards should be higher now and instead of trying to mislead by suggesting no one in the ground was convinced Celtic should have had a penalty, the SFA should acknowledge that standards can and must improve.

Saying that would shut Celtic up and give them nothing to MORE complain about.  Instead of being concerned by the actions of SFA referee chief Fleming.

What you will note is the utter contempt shown for your club by many for writing a letter asking for clarification, even from those who lauded Campbell Ogilvie for demanding a referee is demoted.  Celtic are the last superpower standing after the Long Cold War, but we’ll always be the enemy to some.  We may well win the next 30 league titles, but as long as Campbell ‘What school did you go to?’ Ogilvie is in charge at Hampden, you’ll know what we’re up against.

Great three points last night.  Particularly delighted for Gary Mackay-Steven.  He, and Stuart Armstrong, are still finding their feet at Celtic.  It will be next season before we see the best of them (think Stefan Johansen circa April 2014), but the early signs are encouraging.

Big Virgil had a better record from free kicks than we had from penalties a couple of seasons ago!

When FIFA state deliberate hand ball they are not limited to a wilful act, but also instinctive reactions to hand the ball may also constitute an offence.

Zico – Maltese Bhoy, re the 2004 cup final.

The Bobo handball, and it was, was highlighted by the BBC.

The challenge on David Marshall at the pars’ goal got little attention nor the handball in the Pars’ wall when Alan Thompson fired in a free kick just after we lost the first goal of the game.

I would have preferred us to have won two or three more cups in the last four years. However, for a media who want more competition. they never mention the fact that if Caley or Falkirk win this year’s cup, they will be the seventh different club to win a cup in the eight cup finals since 2011. Football really needs a strong sevco.

  17. i could be wrong, but i think that the week after Lenny got chopped down at ibrox, we played falkirk at home. in stoppage time, Lenny went down in the box. didnt look lik a pen and i dont recall a claim being made. the ref couldnt give it quickly enough and a melee occurred withh Lenny getting sent off.

    kenny Misser, missed.

point being that the brotherhood gave us a nothing decision in a nothing game after denying a clear decision in a big game.

i’d say the odds that we’ll get soft throw-in, corner, or even a pen in our next game will be drastically reduced. probably worth a punt.

  18. Willam Hill would have made lots of money on Sunday, the Celtic result scuppering the big hitter bets and the ordinary punters accumulators.

Specsavers reputation however will take a pounding as none of the officials saw the hand ball or saw it coming off Meeking’s head……….depending what day of the week it is and who at the SFA is telling

porkies……they can’t even do that professionally.

The masons recruitment programme will have had a boost as two of the officials threw aside the cloak of secrecy and were pictured giving one another the fraternal brotherhood handshake …..presumably their aprons were under their SFA kit………not a single word from the press on this. Is it important…….too right it is …………..how many more of their colleagues are signed up members, how many of the Hampden hierarchy are in the brotherhood.? Most of them I would suggest, it’s either that or no fast track for your career.

Is there corruption at the heart of the SFA/SPFL? Will leave that to others to make up their minds but there is no doubt that with a secret society running the game in Scotland anything is possible.

Now whose going to step up to the plate and demand to know who these people are, perhaps Super has a list?

Paranoid? Yes, but probably not enough. At least 2 masons officiating at Sunday’s match, at least. Don’t tell me that these people don’t have an agenda………it was there for all to see on Sunday, brass necked and in front of our eyes, safe in the knowledge that they would be protected and ultimately rewarded some time down the road when the shitstorm had blown over.

    An utter disgrace……….s

  20. The one wee question I would ask Ronny, why must you change the team every week. I questioned his selection at the start of the season after we beat Dun Utd 6-1. The following week I reckon only 4or5 players started that game. Last Wed, we had one striker up front, we go one down, Ronny puts another striker on, we win 4-1. Sat, one striker up front. Out the Cup. My faith is defo starting to be tested. Pleeeeeez Ronny, let me believe. Cot.

  22. The Judicial Panel were asked to consider the appeal by ICT against the one match ban on Meekings.

No verbatim account, but the BBC understands that the panel considered that the officials made an honest mistake so granted the appeal and overturned the ban.

The honesty of the officials was not in question – honestly, but their competence was.

Incompetence, dishonesty, bribery, blackmail, betting scam – who cares why they failed to do their job.

The player deliberately/instinctively handballed in the box and had it been noticed he would have been red-carded and missed the final. The reason(s) why it wasn’t spotted are irrelevant, and sympathy for Meekings is bonkers.

The panel have brushed aside the fact that he did commit the offence and should have been red-carded on the day, and concentrated on why the officials missed it. The inference from the reported justification for the decision is that had the handball not been spotted or penalized for other reasons than “honest mistake” then the appeal would have been denied.

This farce is a victory for the cheats.

As for the Judicial panel, I’ll wait for BRTH/Auldheid/TBB to explain the criteria and terms of reference within which they operate.

ANNOUNCING ‘WOLFE TONES 1916 FEST’ – EASTER WEEKEND 2016!

We made a fitting tribute to the men, women and leaders of 1916 on the Easter weekend of the 99th anniversary of the Rising. Which brings me to the next part of my newsletter, the announcement of the details for the 100th Anniversary celebration at Easter weekend 2016.

‘WOLFE TONES 1916 FEST’ – CITYWEST HOTEL, DUBLIN – EASTER WEEKEND 2016

    MARCH 26th – 28th, 2016!

It will be a three day event over the Easter weekend, Saturday 26th March, Sunday 27th and Monday 28th, once again three great concerts, all different. The Saturday will be with the Celtic Symphony Orchestra and will tell the story of resistance from the time of Wolfe Tone’s 1798 Rebellion right up the events of Easter week, 1916. This show will be introduced by a special piece of music I have written for it, included and embedded into the music will be an oration of the Proclamation. This will be followed by the many songs and ballads from and about this historic period of Ireland’s history. We will do everything possible to make this concert a fitting tribute to the brave men and women, and leaders of 16 who fought and took on one of the biggest empires known to the world at that time. Their names are well known to all but there are some hidden moments that are waiting to be exposed which we hope to bring to light on the night. Now more about the shows later in the next newsletter.
