Demonise Celtic and fawn SFA Ogilvie

898

You’re victim of a costly refereeing failure, what do you do?  Celtic wrote to the SFA for clarification.    There was no demand for censure of the officials or a ban for the Inverness player.

In 2011, when the SFA were victim of a costly refereeing error against Czech Republic, Association president, Campbell Ogilvie, took it upon himself to write to Uefa demanding the referee who failed to correctly interpret a penalty incident, be marked down, and that the player who dived is excluded from the remainder of the competition.  The Daily Record glowingly reported the actions here.

The SFA set a precedent: after being hard done by, demand action against the referee.  Don’t just let supervisory processes take their course.  This is the standard set by Campbell Ogilvie.

“An SFA spokesman” also made it his business to brief a grateful media on the actions of Mr Ogilvie.  This was a coordinated campaign by the SFA against a match official, as well as an attempt to circumvent process.

Is this fair enough?  Well, I don’t remember an outcry at the time.  A referee made a bad mistake in an important game.  Standards should have been higher.  The SFA would have been within their rights to say so, although they had no business trying to influence referee supervisory processes.  If only we had a competent administrator who would realise this.

Celtic are within their rights to say standards should be higher now and instead of trying to mislead by suggesting no one in the ground was convinced Celtic should have had a penalty, the SFA should acknowledge that standards can and must improve.

Saying that would shut Celtic up and give them nothing to MORE complain about.  Instead of being concerned by the actions of SFA referee chief Fleming.

What you will note is the utter contempt shown for your club by many for writing a letter asking for clarification, even from those who lauded Campbell Ogilvie for demanding a referee is demoted.  Celtic are the last superpower standing after the Long Cold War, but we’ll always be the enemy to some.  We may well win the next 30 league titles, but as long as Campbell ‘What school did you go to?’ Ogilvie is in charge at Hampden, you’ll know what we’re up against.

Great three points last night.  Particularly delighted for Gary Mackay-Steven.  He, and Stuart Armstrong, are still finding their feet at Celtic.  It will be next season before we see the best of them (think Stefan Johansen circa April 2014), but the early signs are encouraging.

Big Virgil had a better record from free kicks than we had from penalties a couple of seasons ago!

I hope you come through with all of this. I know a bit about things, not a lot about anything, though. ;))

  4. What efforts can we as a support make to push / force the club to effectively react to our second class treatment at the hands of SFA?

What can the club do to show the fans we will no longer be pushed to the back of the bus?

Can we identify those who profit from our fan base and hurt them in the pocket?

Do we need to accept the adverts around the ground for the likes of the Daily Record? Instead in keeping with our club ethos maybe we could replace those adverts with FREE ads promoting donations to charities like Mary’s Meals, Hospice Charities and Foodbanks.

Can we withdraw our players from Scottish International commitments? We play more than enough games in our crowded season and since we pay the players’ wages we need them fit and risk averse.

Can we refuse to handle tickets for SFA sponsored games?

Can we have a retired SFA referee paid to assess each referee’s performance from a prominent place in the stands and publish the result on the Celtic web site along with a league table of referees form? And maybe a collection of “Honest Mistakes?”

Any other ways to highlight the obvious?

  5. shit, the antichristis on. Cathedral time for me to wash off the unclean. Lol.

  6. Its season book renewal time, I no doubt will renew mine and my lads but before doing so I would like to club to confirm that we will be playing on a level playing field next season, not in league and cups controlled by cheats. It would make no difference writing to PL, judging by some contributors on here the chance of a response would be zero. A few years back some might recall PL did fans road shows with Lenny to gain support around season ticket renewal time. When was the last time PL actually met the fans in this type of forum? Because that’s the time to put the questions to him.

I am fed up with the cheating and the bigoted way CFC are treated. I grew up in the six counties so should be well used to it. I now live in England and when I explain to friends and work colleagues the goings on, they are astounded, they cant believe this happens, they say if that was to happen down here there would be hell to pay. I call on the Celtic Board to grow a set for once and take these rotten shower out once and for all.

  7. Auldheid. Celtic are completely within their rights and indeed owe a duty of care to not only enquire about the original decision but he increasingly bizarre series of events thereafter. This isn’t to stop meekings playing (who cares now anyway) but rather why the SFA seek to uphold decisions they deem to be wrong in the first place.

Let’s be clear another silence from celtic would be insulting and appalling to all of us. The absurdity of all this demands resignations. A silent celtic will confirm all our fears. I urge everyone not to renew season tickets until we know celtics stance.

We are down the rabbit hole now.

    Isn’t it fun??

I agree about fans form other clubs across the UK. Not a clue about the scenario with Celtic.

Key question for them would be if they were denied a place at Wembley because of such a decision would they do a Tony Mowbray or a Jock Stein.
