Demonise Celtic and fawn SFA Ogilvie

898

You’re victim of a costly refereeing failure, what do you do?  Celtic wrote to the SFA for clarification.    There was no demand for censure of the officials or a ban for the Inverness player.

In 2011, when the SFA were victim of a costly refereeing error against Czech Republic, Association president, Campbell Ogilvie, took it upon himself to write to Uefa demanding the referee who failed to correctly interpret a penalty incident, be marked down, and that the player who dived is excluded from the remainder of the competition.  The Daily Record glowingly reported the actions here.

The SFA set a precedent: after being hard done by, demand action against the referee.  Don’t just let supervisory processes take their course.  This is the standard set by Campbell Ogilvie.

“An SFA spokesman” also made it his business to brief a grateful media on the actions of Mr Ogilvie.  This was a coordinated campaign by the SFA against a match official, as well as an attempt to circumvent process.

Is this fair enough?  Well, I don’t remember an outcry at the time.  A referee made a bad mistake in an important game.  Standards should have been higher.  The SFA would have been within their rights to say so, although they had no business trying to influence referee supervisory processes.  If only we had a competent administrator who would realise this.

Celtic are within their rights to say standards should be higher now and instead of trying to mislead by suggesting no one in the ground was convinced Celtic should have had a penalty, the SFA should acknowledge that standards can and must improve.

Saying that would shut Celtic up and give them nothing to MORE complain about.  Instead of being concerned by the actions of SFA referee chief Fleming.

What you will note is the utter contempt shown for your club by many for writing a letter asking for clarification, even from those who lauded Campbell Ogilvie for demanding a referee is demoted.  Celtic are the last superpower standing after the Long Cold War, but we’ll always be the enemy to some.  We may well win the next 30 league titles, but as long as Campbell ‘What school did you go to?’ Ogilvie is in charge at Hampden, you’ll know what we’re up against.

Great three points last night.  Particularly delighted for Gary Mackay-Steven.  He, and Stuart Armstrong, are still finding their feet at Celtic.  It will be next season before we see the best of them (think Stefan Johansen circa April 2014), but the early signs are encouraging.

Big Virgil had a better record from free kicks than we had from penalties a couple of seasons ago!

    Tom,

Sorry to hear of your Mum’s passing.

I’ll keep you and the family in my thoughts today.

  2. IMAGINE THE SCENE. . . .

Scotland playing England and 1-0 up in the Euros semi final. Scotland dominanting and denied a clearcut penalty when ball cleared off the line by the outstretched hand of English defender.

What say the Scottish media? The SFA?

Any lurking journalists brave enough to raise such a scenario on their radio programmes tonight and ask how the public would react?

  6. South of Tunis…ok…Did the ball hit the guys hand.it did..did it stop the ball from going in the net..it did..so you talk as if ball to hand has never been given…right…ex ref says it would have been absurd…Ex player on itv , andy townsend said it was a pen alldaylong..commentator agreed, both said if given it was a sending off..as for the Fiorentina managers comments..i know its a guess but i’d bet they would have been different if Dynamo would have went through…IMO just like on Sunday, it should have been a penalty and a sending off everyday of the week…

  7. The Scotsman piece is hunbelieveable. They just can’t help themselves.

Re The Muir/McLean cheating story, I must say my anger and resolve is just hardening as the days pass. I really feel this is our Alamo, we need to make a stand by organising a wide ranging united front, covering as many supporters as possible, and instigate a boycott campaign that will hurt the SFA but not Celtic.

  8. Oh good morning BGX. I don’t believe you have responded to my evidence post?

Perhaps you haven’t see it yet?

  9. Corkcelt. The ball is now in celtics court. They have the opportunity here to really drive home the knife and potentially get change. The stories and the actions don’t add up.

They should also be tackling jack sons pathetic comments.

    We await what happens next.

I suspect the country will now bury the story. And bury it deep. And celtic will say absolutely nothing.

  11. I agree with corkcelt we try to hurt financially the sfa but not celtic

in my opinion any semis or finals at hampdump we get to next season we should boycott and im sure sponsors would be chuffed to see a half empty stadium

  12. Bobby Murdoch there is no doubt that the Labour Party has somewhat lost its way. It needs to move to the left and will realise that after the election(too late).

My fear for scotland is that the referendum has left behind a new politics that is based on bullying and intimidation. The SNP, showing complete arrogance in effectively ignoring the outcome of the referendum and passing ever more intrusive laws will have a free hand to continue and worsen.

They will engage in politics of division both in Scotland and in Westminster in an attempt to create further alienation to try and encourage no voters to change their mind.

All of this will happen and nothing I say here will stop it.

In the end scotland will get what it deserves and if you think the racism is bad now you ain’t seen nothing yet.

  13. Celtic forever there will be no boycott on the SFA. It is too hard to organise. It will be ignored by many.

The real problem is with celtic who accept, on our behalf, our seat at the back of the bus. They only asked the question of the meekings affair because it’s season book time and they were getting inundated.

The second you have bought your season book they couldn’t care less about you.

We need to face this sad truth and do something about it. We have the power to change celtic who in turn can change the SFA.

If we don’t do something we will get what we deserve. Cheated and called paranoid.

I said at the time of the Ref that Yes wouldn’t win, but anything over 40% made it inevitable and over 45% I thought it might happen within my lifetime.

The reason being it would bring a nationwide focus onto what devolution and devo max really meant and would wake English voters up to the fact that while they might have previously equated GB or UK to England that wasn’t really the case. The idea of ‘England only votes’ was and is being pushed forward.

The problem being that much of the Barnett formula is based on spending at an English level, so while those seem like England only issues they’re not. The only real solution being fiscal autonomy and once you get that far, you’re really defacto independent.

There is a nice irony to all the bleating about being governed by a party they didn’t vote for by some of the English press though.

  15. Neganon2….being honest man i did,,well i read up to the part you were talking about sevcos secterian signing policy, you know their old chestnuts about ,they couldnt find one good enough or they wont sign for us(they meaning catholics)……You said ‘this was their line, this was also Scotlands line’….and at that i realised this would take two minutes of my life i’d never get back…so ..thats what happend…..Scotlands Line,,,layed down by whom, verbalised by whom…i could go on but….Lifes to short…

I agree a boycott is difficult to organise

but with regard season tickets I have been a Celtic fan since I was born and as long as I can afford to I will continue to renew my season ticket even if I dont necessarily agree with everything the Celtic board do

Im a Celtic fan and will always be a Celtic fan win lose or draw going along to Celtic Park to support my team

Heyho,I’m in a Tory marginal. Hopefully not pretty soon.

Aye the socialism has gone Boaby, yesterdays IFS report showed the contempt all parties treat the electorate with,by not telling us what exactly they will do as regards to their projections for us.ALL parties have massive gaps in what they are saying and what the reality is.

Hopefully Labour will turn to its roots, but i dont see it,the need for power meant all principles were shed under the murderer and bein submissive to feral city types became labours pleasure. The treasury secretaries wee note showed how that ended.

hope your good Boab and maybe see you before seasons end.
