Demonise Celtic and fawn SFA Ogilvie

898

You’re victim of a costly refereeing failure, what do you do?  Celtic wrote to the SFA for clarification.    There was no demand for censure of the officials or a ban for the Inverness player.

In 2011, when the SFA were victim of a costly refereeing error against Czech Republic, Association president, Campbell Ogilvie, took it upon himself to write to Uefa demanding the referee who failed to correctly interpret a penalty incident, be marked down, and that the player who dived is excluded from the remainder of the competition.  The Daily Record glowingly reported the actions here.

The SFA set a precedent: after being hard done by, demand action against the referee.  Don’t just let supervisory processes take their course.  This is the standard set by Campbell Ogilvie.

“An SFA spokesman” also made it his business to brief a grateful media on the actions of Mr Ogilvie.  This was a coordinated campaign by the SFA against a match official, as well as an attempt to circumvent process.

Is this fair enough?  Well, I don’t remember an outcry at the time.  A referee made a bad mistake in an important game.  Standards should have been higher.  The SFA would have been within their rights to say so, although they had no business trying to influence referee supervisory processes.  If only we had a competent administrator who would realise this.

Celtic are within their rights to say standards should be higher now and instead of trying to mislead by suggesting no one in the ground was convinced Celtic should have had a penalty, the SFA should acknowledge that standards can and must improve.

Saying that would shut Celtic up and give them nothing to MORE complain about.  Instead of being concerned by the actions of SFA referee chief Fleming.

What you will note is the utter contempt shown for your club by many for writing a letter asking for clarification, even from those who lauded Campbell Ogilvie for demanding a referee is demoted.  Celtic are the last superpower standing after the Long Cold War, but we’ll always be the enemy to some.  We may well win the next 30 league titles, but as long as Campbell ‘What school did you go to?’ Ogilvie is in charge at Hampden, you’ll know what we’re up against.

Great three points last night.  Particularly delighted for Gary Mackay-Steven.  He, and Stuart Armstrong, are still finding their feet at Celtic.  It will be next season before we see the best of them (think Stefan Johansen circa April 2014), but the early signs are encouraging.

Big Virgil had a better record from free kicks than we had from penalties a couple of seasons ago!

there seems to be just an emphasis regarding McLeans non penalty decision against Inverness when there was in fact a whole catalogue of honest mistakes given against Celtic by McLean (and his North Stand linesman by the way). For example

1.) He booked Scott Brown for his very first foul meaning broonie was on a tightrope for the rest of the match

2.) The Caley striker who caught Van Dijk in the face in the first half and was actually spoken to by McLean and no doubt just told dont do it again when in actual fact striking an opponent in the face off the ball is normally a red card offence.

3.) Similarly McLean spoke to the the Caley right back for sything down Forrest for the umpteenth time and also told dont do it again

4.) At least 2 occasions I remember Celtic player got fouled but still had the ball but instead of playing advantage Mclean brought play back for a Celtic foul

5.) And of course the non penalty

From my viewpoint it wasnt only one glaring mistake against Celtic during the game but several and Im sure others on here will remember a few more

Just browsed quickly back through last night, if ok with the family would be interested to know the outcome of your meeting with the politician over the case you mentioned.

Anyway school run beckons and CRC/Jobo great effort with LMS for wee Shay, still think the poor CQNers that had taken Celtic last week should have received the jokers or at least have been allowed to pay back in since we, I mean, they were CHEATED !

  4. Whose the mason in the black will become a popular diity between now and the end of the season as McLean and Muir openly gave one another the grip before the game on Sunday.

Lodge Busby for Brother McLean I believe, Brother Muir anyone?

The only way to deal with the apron, grip, rolled up trousers brigade is to name and shame them……..last bit will be difficult I know.

Their loyalty is to their ludge brothers, no one else.

A register should be set up for officials, at all levels, to declare what outside organisation they are members of. Whats the problem? Why would anyone be ashamed to declare their outside interests unless of course they have ulterior motives for being a member.

Perhaps Ally already has a list, great would save a lkt of time.

    Ally, Wattie’s ludges, anybody?

Very sorry to hear of the passing of your mum.

May God bless her and your family at this sad time

  6. On McLeans performance……the only SFA referee that takes 8 steps tk mkve the wal, back 10 yards, fact.

Must have bloody big feet….watch the replays, does it more than once in the match.

Not just a cheat, wholly incompetent into the bargain….but hey ho, he’s in the ludge, nothing else matters.

why the hell were they watering pitch before kick off and at half time during match against Caley

big pool of water was on pitch 15 mins before game started

I know some have said Celtic had chosen the wrong boots but I cant see the pitch needing watered other than it prevented Celtics passing game

Sorry for your loss. Look after your Dad, look after yourself and look back on all the good times that your mother gave you.

  10. Wondering how someone with McLean’s previous error stricken history got Sunday’s game…….then it dawned on me. His previous performances have been marked up by his ludge brothers in order to put him in a position to influence a big game…..involving Celtic, and not to their benefit.

Job done, another dishonest mistake to add to the match officials roll of honour.

Why has no one resigned ( too honourable?) or been sacked for being incompetent?

  11. So now they are saying that they did see handball but all thought that it was accidental? I am confused.

Not one section of the media has mentioned the grip between the officials on Sunday, probablg all too busy ironing their own aprons for the next ludge meeting.

    Hail Hail fella.

Yeah, there sure aint no Gerry McNee’s about these days to – both – callout the ouija-board-SFA-and-their-colluding-‘brothers’-on-Celtic’s-board…nahhh, just Phil MacG and, an assortment of ‘convenient’….kow-towing-plants to keep Celtic’s fans attention away from the ‘real’ enemy to…’real’ Celtic supporters ambitions…smoke-screen…after…smoke-screen…after a cavalcade of smoky-mirrors….’hows-the-huns-daein?’…level of ambition…..

  13. Tom McLaughlin. My condolences on the loss of your dear mother.RIP. I am off to Mass shortly and I will pray for you and your family, especially

God bless yer ma may she rest in a better place.

The problem with Scottish Football is the non playing idiots who run it.

  18. See the amount of folk on here who…it seems…have just dropped in from another universe…ah mean…when did Celtic FC ‘not’ get cheated by refs?

When did Celtic fans ‘not’ get put at the back of the bus?

Ye know what….the only time that I have seen Celtic’s directors being shown…how…to deal with the establishment was when….

…In the aftermath of the ‘shame-game’…Celtic’s board were summoned to a govt-summit for having the audacity to…have ‘3’ players booked…and yes…Celtic’s spineless-kow-towing-board…or, rather PL attended the Govt-summit…and…just imagine that…there were 20 folk at the meeting…was PL the only non-mason in attendance?…is he aff his nut?…or,…is he a mason?…what do think the outcome was going to be for Celtic FC in those settings?…fluckin bonkers….

….Anyway, yeah….the Green Brigade were summoned to a police-meeting with, Paul McBride QC(RIP) and, Campbell Corrigan about sectarian singing and stuff…the Green Brigade did what…PL should have done…the Green Brigade told them to…..”go and get stuffed!”…or words to that effect.

  19. Good morning CQNers,

It is clear in my mind that McLean took the opportunity to do his bit for the Rangers brothers by denying Celtic the opportunity to score a 2nd goal just before half time,it would have been the end for ICT.

He then concocted a tale to cover his tracks, Fleming agreed the storyline would be that no one saw it.

Then the ridicule started – that was too much.

So, the storyline was changed to a more plausible, McLean took his direction from an incorrect call by Muir.

Face-saving complete, McLean can regale all the blues brothers with his tale of how he did something his brother never did,he deprived Celtic of a treble, Fleming got himself off the hook and Muir will get promoted in the near future.

What are you gonna do Tims?

  22. the long wait is over on

The outpouring in the media of sympathy for poor Meekins is nauseating.

The poor wee lamb night miss the Cup Final?

A whole football club and hundreds of thousands of supporters missed, in all probability , a cup final and a chance of a treble as a result of various factors related to and including his decision to cheat – plain and simple.

If a deliberate handball that would , if it had been made legitimately by a keeper, have been up there as Save of the Season , and which so radically affected the outcome of one of our showpiece games ( leaving the referring decision not to award a penalty and red card out of it for the moment , if Meekins hadn’t done what he did KC would have tapped in a second) isn’t disciplined after the event what’s the point of citing players?

Why isn’t the full detailed finding of the Committee publicised, with a note of findings?

We’re not idiots – give us a transparent explanation of the decision and process and we’ll understand it.

    Nothing else is appropriate.
