Derbies against struggling mid-table teams

217

Another home Glasgow derby against a team struggling in mid-table and another lead conceded. This is why consecutively winning so many games is historically difficult, not just in the Scottish league.

The randomness of Ade Azeez scoring at Celtic Park is what keeps football from going stale. Fortunately, that randomness didn’t extend to scoring a winner, so the potential of an unbeaten treble remains alive.

There were plusses. Eboue Kouassi made his first start, and Tom Rogic returned from a lengthy absence to replace Eboue shortly after the hour. Jack Aitchison, our youngest ever goal scorer, got the last 15 minutes, a valuable exposure to the heady heights of first team football.

I doubt Brendan Rodgers will be even slightly upset by the dropped points to the extent that he would be less keen to rest players for Kilmarnock on Saturday. Even though Kilmarnock are clearly world-beaters after securing a point against the greatest coach to finish in fifth place in Qatar.

In the next couple of weeks we’ll be shipping, In the Heat of Lisbon, with what is an absolute cracker of a T-shirt (below). If you don’t know what it is, I’m not going to tell you, but I think it’s just brilliant…..
lisbonteeoffercouchYou can buy the two of them here, £19.67 the pair.  Can’t wait.

    Gordon, quoting Killie programme.

“Tonight’s visitors are making their second visit this season to Kilmarnock having drawn 1-1 in an exciting and entertaining Friday evening encounter last August. The most successful club in Scotland as far as the most domestic honours won, Rangers have made a welcome return to the top tier of the Scottish League after being demoted to the fourth tier after going into administration in 2012.”

Interesting? Quite the opposite, given this crap has been spouted for the last 4 years.

What’s interesting is why the other member clubs, (yeah, that’s us,) allow it to pass without protest.

Lord Bannatyne rejected it, incase we need back-up.

Who is Scotland’s most successful club? Emdae?

  8. Elbows will want to do as much damage as possible to Celtic. Brendan knows the score.

I thought the young midfielder last night showed Awesome positional sense, who is he?

    EBOUE KOUASSI,

He is going to be some player, he dropped into CH and moved behind the Striker. What a Stoatir he is gonnae be. He will get a red card or 2 in Scotland though.

I guess it’s just what Celtic Needed

Just checking in on CQN …. and your post at 6:56 is one of the first posts of yours in a while that I have understood ….

have you been drinking? Or have I?

    :)

but I agree with you about Kouassi … he is going to be some player …. may not be in Scotland … but he will go on to be a top player in a top league …

and if anyone sees GFTB, can you make sure you tell him that I picked Sevco for GFS this weekend … (I actually picked the dons, but just having a bit of fun with GFTB)

Thought Kouassi was absolutely brilliant last night. Had a bit of a shaky start which was understandable. Some may say he didn’t do a great deal other than keep the ball ticking over but what really impressed me was his communication. He was barking at others when we were in possession, telling them what to do and demanding the ball. Strong leadership from a newcomer. I thought when in possession he always made the correct choice, when it was time to quicken the pace he did so but also kept it simple when needed. He is very raw and may incur the wrath of the MIB’s in the short term. Very impressive overall.

On a separate point, we again saw the merits in playing Roberts through the middle, he has the makings of a very effective no10. As per our goal, he only had to beat one man prior to playing the pass through. Sometimes when he is stuck on the wing he has to beat two or three men to get the ball in. I recently read Eden Hazard bemoaning something similar. With a strong number 9 in front of him, Roberts would be a great number 10.

Petec…If Kouassi is eligible for the cup game then he may well be sent off beforehand for having a violent haircut and therefore out of the tie…

  12. mike in toronto,

He was nervous early doors, understandable – He is Determined to succeed, the bit of skill that had the Stadium going – YES, it wasn’t outrageous skill…. It was just Skill that he has used a Million Times… to settle into the game. I said to the Wee Guy. This guy is going to be AWESOME for Celtic.

He played the Broonie role very well once he settled.

I can only hope that our Board eventually does the right thing and calls out the cheating, so I can get back to watching the bhoys before he moves onto greener pastures (if you will pardon the pun) …

  14. I’m in shock. Just downloaded a new ‘build’ for Kodi. Wookie its called. So i’m having a nosey around what add-ons are on there and to my utter shock and horror there is one called Follow Follow. Yes its THEM.

    We will see.

Would be great if we get with a sign acknowledging the Celtic Foundation.

I think I am right in saying that Celtic fans hold the record for food bank donations so that would be a plus point.

Or maybe our directors could use their contacts and bring him to Paradise for a game.

    Petec …

It seems to me that most Celtic fans are anything but demanding …. as long as Celtic are winning, I think most will be happy to just move along ….. and that is what I believe the Board have been banking on all along …

Personally, I dont think that I am that demanding either …

I am not expecting Celtic to be able to recover money that was stolen from it (and, for me, that is what happened). and I dont expect a wholesale change of those running the game in Scotland …

However, even today (for some of this we dont need to wait for the results of the BTC) there is no reason for Celtic not to simply state that (i) the rules were not followed, (ii) the rules must be applied fairly and evenly to alll, and (ii) as a consequence of the application of the rules, Celtic expects that titles will be stripped from the Zombies.

Once the BTC is determined, there may be a follow up, depending upon the result.

I also do not think that Celtic (or anyone acting in any capacity for Celtic) should UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES refer to the new entity as Rangers.

That is the bare minimum I expect.

  25. Ajer did not look comfortable at Centre half against Sevco.

He made a couple of glaring errors and was knocked of the ball too easily.

He is not a natural central defender.

In fact he is an accident waiting to happen in that position.
