Dickson: Okay, it should have been lodged with the SPL then

The transcript for the HMRC v Rangers First Tier Tribunal (FTT) runs to 1126 pages. It will take weeks, perhaps months, to distil the content into what remains relevant to the SFA’s decision to reject the SPFL’s request to review issues surrounding Rangers EBTs. For today:

Current SFA Council member (and Newco Rangers Head of Football Administration), Andrew Dickson, was cross-examined by Mr Thomson (representing HMRC).

On 18 April 2011, Mr Thomson asked Mr Dickson why a Trust schedule was not lodged with the football authorities, Mr Dickson replied:

It should not “Not necessarily” have been lodged.

When asked by Mr Thomson “What possibly basis do you have for saying that it should not have been lodged?”

Mr Dickson replied, “The SPL didn’t – never contacted us coming looking for it”.

After failing to convince Mr Thomson that lodging the schedule late rendered there no point to lodging it at all, Mr Thomson puts him on the spot:

“I’m asking you about the fact that it should have been lodged. It’s supposed to be lodged early. Just because you don’t lodge it timeously, doesn’t mean to say that you’re not then under an obligation to lodge it, Mr Dickson.”

To this, Mr Dickson concedes:

“Okay, it should have been lodged with the SPL then.”

capture-20170918-123525

A current SFA Council member, in a court of law, accepted that Oldco Rangers did not lodge paperwork to the SPL relating to EBT payments, which he accepted should have been lodged.

Mr Dickson’s SFA colleagues decided to reject the SPFL’s request for a review into the matter. You can draw your own conclusions as to why.

CELTIC’S Development Squad continued their good start to the domestic season with a 2-0 victory over Hearts at Ochilview. Goals from Jack Aitchison and Ewan Henderson secured the points for Tommy McIntyre’s side who dominated the game from start to finish.

Henderson’s older brother, Liam, was in the starting line-up, and the midfielder showed his class and experience throughout the 90 minutes, which also involved him setting up Ewan for Celtic’s second goal of the night.

The young Celts took the game to their opponents from the first whistle, and Liam Henderson set up Mikey Johnston for the first chance of the night after just five minutes, but the winger’s shot went over the bar.

Henderson went close after 20 minutes, forcing the Hearts goalkeeper into a good save, and from the resultant corner, Jack Aitchison headed just over.

There were further chances for Joe Thomson and Aitchison again before the latter finally got the goal that Celtic’s dominance deserved with five minutes of the first-half remaining.

Johnston showed great vision to pick out Aitchison with a deft chip over the top of the Hearts defence, and the young Celtic striker produced a superb left-footed finish to put the Hoops 1-0 up.

The story of the second-half was a repeat of the first 45 minutes, with Celtic taking the game to their opponents. And they had a penalty claim after just five minutes when Johnston went down inside the box, but the appeals were waved away.

Celtic keeper Conor Hazard, who had been a virtual spectator in the game, was called upon to produce a superb save after 55 minutes to deny Hearts an equaliser they barely deserved. And 10 minutes later, the Hoops doubled their lead with a goal that might have been from the Henderson back garden, never mind the training ground at Lennoxtown.

Liam was the provider, lofting the ball over the Hearts defence for Ewan, who rifled home a brilliant right-foot finish to make it 2-0.

There was to be no further scoring in the game on a night when the young Celts produced an impressive performance and well-deserved victory.

CELTIC: Hazard, Bell, Deas, McCart, Hill, Thomson, Hendry(McInroy 80), Savoury (E.Henderson 57), L. Henderson, Johnston, Aitchison (Watson 67).

  15. I hadn’t realised when I posted yesterday about Paul coming on as a sub and scoring in the Kokkola game that it was his debut!

Sobering to think he would have been 19 that night and yet by the time he was 27 he was away to Motherwell and was completely finished with football when he was 31.

For all the bad that is in the game now, one good thing is the evolution in keeping players in better condition for longer.

Paul’s situation post football, which is so common with his contemporaries brings a certain understanding to this generations’ requirement to make gay (dosh) while the sun shines. Yes in some cars it’s way over the top but you really need to build for your life in such a short time.

If your about, I just received my delivery of gin from the Islands, first thing I’ll say is I’m glad I’m glad you mentioned that there are some good gins brewed in the Islands first one I had a nip out off was great that was the Harris bottle 45% strength lovely gin and can be drunk on it’s own (beautiful).

Tthe other was the Barra gin, before I had a sip I hoped it would be as good as the Harris tipple, my god it was beautiful, 50% strength a hint of sweetness and it went down a treat, it could be the best gin I’ve ever had, recommend it to gin drinkers.
