Doncaster beats No Surrender Longmuir

948

The appointment of Neil Doncaster as chief executive of the newly formed Scottish Professional (sic) Football League was a forgone conclusion, No Surrender Longmuir was interviewed out of professional courtesy, and the clubs realised that the calibre of external candidates they would attract at the moment would be from the bottom of the corporate pile.  Frankly, a heavy hitter would not apply.

Now that Doncaster is freed from his previous preoccupation – trying to parachute a new club into top flight football – he can worry about his key performance indicators, bringing commercial income into the league.  If he can’t deliver a good deal, or scams a ‘Homecoming’-type deal, by pulling money already committed by a benefactor, like his pal along the corridor, we’re better off without him.

My thanks to Billy No’well for inviting me onto his podcast show, Desert Island Tims, available here.  I had great fun choosing material for the show and even more fun talking about Celtic, and life, with Billy.

  1. Anyroadup, our resolution has backers into the 50’s with quite a few still to confirm their details, so we are falling short, I will post the next draft this evening, as I said it has taken a new twist, instead of quizzing the boards complicity which has raised a lot of concern, (many afraid to find out the truth) I will be asking them to support a resolution to bring in UEFA to investigate compliance irregularities, will they back the proposal, their answer will expose if they are complicit or not.

There are few greater sights than a particularly full bag connecting with the intended target and the screech of Woolies gutties on the pavement!!

Are people being arrested for going onto their balcony, for throwing things at the streaming loons, for reading a book or for waving a flag or for any of the above?

I don’t quite see how they can arrest someone for watering their balcony plants.

I second that. Loathe Salmond, worried about what happens after independence, cheer on British athletes at the Olympics and generally much prefer British Rock Music to either American or Scottish. But I’m Scottish and I think we should run our own country.

We could given them three pairs of white sports socks, a flaggon of cider and a wee fleg at the airport so they could get into the swing of things…a wee booklet explaining how to disgrace yourself in public without fear of arrest could also come in handy…

Morrissey fascinates me, I was unaware of the Smiths back then in high school, there were kids who were “weird” because they were Smithonians.

I don’t know why Jesus is the specific target in this song when He proclaims God. I think it is well known on CQN that some people believe in God and being universal and all that, that doesn’t mean to say it is the God of the Bible. Gnostics have run this World and when ol is Morrissaid and done, the guy is probably a secret society guy, well up the pyramid. eye right!!! ;)

I don’t consider it to be hypocrisy. There are plenty of people who support the land of their birth without living there because of financial choices, work choices or necessities etc and there are plenty more who support the land of their forefathers without having ever lived in that country or ever having set foot in it or knowing anything of it.

Would you say Scots living in England or elsewhere in the UK don’t have a right to be passionate about this issue one way or another?

You only have to ask citizens of America about their background to see that there are people worldwide who look back to their point of origin and feel a connection with it and moreover care about what happens there.

I’ll move back to Scotland if it’s a YES but not under any other circumstances.

  16. Snakes..,

My point being you harp on about historical injustices done, most in fact were scot on scot, yet ignore the current injustices perpetrated by your champions.

Rarely do you recognise the the current injustices being played out except with a cursory dismissal that it will all somehow change with independence, there has been popular backing to keep timmy in his place and balance the books, as there is for closing schools on the grounds that they are the cause of sectarianism, for me two fundamental reason not to support, and lets just ignore the cap in hand plea to the orange order ffs.

It’s still a parcel of rogues which probably parlty why your no a resident.

  19. Hi Paul67,

“…………. and the clubs realised that the calibre of external candidates they would attract at the moment would be from the bottom of the corporate pile. Frankly, a heavy hitter would not apply.”

Well, that could certainly be the case, however I think they should have at least cast the net.

It isn’t as if Mr Doncaster can point to a proven track record, he struggled to Manage an organisation with 12 Clubs, if embee can tell me one crisis he handled well, one contract he negotiated well or one innovation he came up with I’ll reconsider why like Mr Longmuir, Mr Doncaster’s interview shouldn’t have been a curt-eous protocol.

As Peter Principle dun told us – you promote to a level of incompetence.

“If he can’t deliver a good deal, or scams a ‘Homecoming’-type deal ……..”

You think he’s going to cope with the next Ibroxian Farce any better than the last one???

I’d like to know the bases of that logic.

The other point and I think it’s a good one, is by only having two incumbents the only candidates for the position some might get the crazy idea it’s jobs for the boys.

Anyway, he seems to have a good working relationship with Messers Lawwell and Reilly, hope it’s enuff to we get to play in a real League.

    Who said the following?

    1) “Religious controversies are always productive of more acrimony & irreconcilable hatreds than those that spring from any other cause.”

    2) “When a religion is good, I conceive it will support itself; and when it does not support itself, and God does not take care to support it, so that its professors are obliged to call for the help of the civil power, tis a sign, I apprehend, of it being a bad one.”

    3) “Question with boldness even the existence of a God, because if there be one, he must more approve the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear.”

    4) During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What have been its fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity, in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution.”

How many in China, Poland, Ukraine, Cuba, Lithuania would have gone to Mass 50 years ago but were prevented from doing so by persecution?’

No idea. Can’t really see what that’s got to with my point though.

Which was that there’s no point comparing attendance figures today with those of 50 years ago without considering one key point: that those who attend today do so because they want to, that wasn’t the case 50 years ago.

Things might therefore not be as bad as they seem.
