DONE DEAL: GRIFF PAY-OFF AGREED

1

CELTIC have struck a pay-off deal with Leigh Griffiths to end any lingering doubts he had a future at Parkhead.

The 31-year-old former Scotland international hitman had five months still to run on his Hoops contract, but a financial package has been thrashed out to cut him loose, as CQN reported yesterday.

Ange Postecoglou is currently working with his squad after a second transfer window that has seen SIXTEEN players arrive in the east end of Glasgow since he took over as Neil Lennon’s long-term successor in June.

The board did not want the Griffiths issue to drag on and become a sideshow and official confirmation of the 123-goal forward’s departure is expected within days, according to the Scottish Sun.

STANDING OVATION…Leigh Griffiths celebrates his hat-trick in the 5-0 win over St Mirren on March 7 2020, the last game before Covid brought the season to a premature end.

The once-prolific attacker is likely to remain on loan at Dundee for the remainder of the season on reduced terms. The Dens Park club, toiling second bottom of the Premiership, have not been impressed by the player’s two-goal contribution in 14 games.

Lennon brought Griffiths to the Hoops in January 2014 in a £1.1million switch from Wolves.

He agreed a season-long extension in the summer, but Postecoglou has since made it clear he had no part of his plans going forward.

Griffiths will become a free agent on June 1 and celebrate his 32nd birthday two months later.
