Don’t bet, tardy payers and immersed in our culture

1179

Quick question for you.  Which Scottish team has won their last four home games, scoring 13 goals in the process?  St Mirren are on a run of form at home.  One of those wins was against Second Division opposition, but remember, this season, Second Division teams are on a par with AC Milan in the early 90s.

Ross County scored four at St Mirren Park but St Mirren scored five, while Hearts were despatched 2-0.  This is a team with good home form who kept their squad in place over the international break.  My best advice to you is to avoid betting on this one.

Many clubs have trouble paying their bills but the problem with Hearts and their regular tardiness when it comes to wages, evident again this month, appears to be different.  Hearts cash balances will have peaked weeks, possibly months, ago.  From now on they will be eating into ‘reserves’, or more likely, accruing additional debt at their owner’s bank.  The club have been here many times before and Vlad has dipped into the equivalent of his commercial pocket to avoid an insolvency event but I’ve always found it curious why he didn’t do so on time.  It’s not as though anyone can be surprised pay day is coming.

As such, there appears to be a degree of control over late payment.  The money is always provided but not before pain is passed down from owner to earners, which is a bit curious.

For all his faults, and they are many, Romanov and other shareholders in Ukio Bankas have ‘invested’ countless millions in Hearts, money they are unlikely to get back with the residential property market so depressed.  They have also not exposed the club to outrageous fortune – the overwhelming majority of debt is owed to the bank itself, balances at HMRC and other creditors are low, and they pay their football debts.  This means that if Hearts go into administration, the route back through a CVA would be clear.  The only serious losers would be staff made redundant, while Ukio would face a write-off, perhaps already acknowledged internally.

I was surprised at the news Danny McGrain was appointed first team coach yesterday but also delighted.  Danny’s was not a name mentioned for the position when Alan Thompson left the club but he is immersed in the fabric and culture of our club.  ‘In the days of changing ways’ a strong thread of continuity is an invaluable asset in ensuring the new generations acquire the important elements of our identity.

We are a club in touch with all that is important.

  1. I thought long and hard about posting on today’s “hot topic”.

    However,decided to forge ahead.

    Here is my truth.

1.I don’t think I have met anyone else on here and don’t align myself with any of the perceived groups/cliques on here

2.I was at the Ibrox Disaster game.A truly horrible experience.

3.I have never heard the “dalek” reference till recently and believe it was associated with comments made by A.Thomson, deliberately twisted to make it appear derogatory towards the disaster victims.

4.I have never heard a derogatory song sung about the Ibrox Disaster but have heard other Celtic fans speak about it.

5.I post/lurk on a number of other Celtic fans’ sites and,on some of them,I have read comments posted by others on numerous occasions which are, imo, derogatory towards

the Ibrox Disaster. In the main, the comments are aimed at the culpability of the rangers board in the disaster but,on a number of occasions,it has gone way beyond that.In fairness,on most occasions the posters appear to come from a younger generation somewhat removed from the horrors which occurred that day and they are shot down.

However, the notion that all Celtic supporters have always been squeaky clean on this is not true in my experience.

Thankfully, the vast majority have been appropriately respectful.

A bit like the argument for a minute of applause before a game imo. With a minute’s silence it only takes 1 or 2 bampots to ruin it and give the rest a bad name.

PS To the best of my knowledge I am not related to Ernie Lynch

Gregorythegreat – I am looking for two mate. Desperately.

You can get my email from Paul67.

  3. We know Leggat is lower than a snake’s belly but his offering today on Jock Stein, a man who gave his life for the Scotland team, is his cheapest shot yet.

There is no salvation for this cretin and I hope his pain is intense.

Gregorythegreat – if you have an email you dare put on here (not a work one or anything like that) I can email you directly. If not, you can email Paul67 and he will pass on my email address to you.

  6. International breaks seem to always end with Celtic playing away at 12.30 on the Saturday and the recent record isn`t good with 5 points lost in the last two league matches after internationals. I agree that this isn`t a game to bet on.

Just read your piece on the SNP. If that’s been your experience of the SNP then you’ve been lucky. My experience as an ousider is different. For example, during the Falklands War SNP President, William Wolfe, told a mini-nation to support the Brits as they were from a Protestant country fighting Catholic Argentines. Even today – despite their best efforts to cultivate Bishops and Cardinals – they tie themselves in knots for fear of offending Zombies. Think McAskill and his ‘wonderful atmosphere’. Think fat Salmond and his special pleading with HMRC. Think that silly SNP woman who wilfully refused to understand the difference between anti-Irish, anti-Catholic chants and republican songs.

  8. Cracking Tweet the now Osbourne got on a train standard ticket and tried to sit in First Class! Refused tonigjt and sit with the plebs. His aide paid ticket collector £160 to stay!

Is ALLY unaware of Charliebhoy’s chequered past history?

To suggest that Rangers is his first venture into running a football club is frankly ridiculous.

It’s not even his first venture into wrecking one………

I missed this other great quote from Ally in that article:-

“I honestly believed if someone like Mother Theresa had taken over our football club, the jury would still have been out because of what had happened before,” the former Rangers striker said.”

Aye but their views on Agnes Bojaxhiu might have stemmed from other motivations.

  14. had a long read back and am a bit hacked off that we are sending a lot of time debating the rantings of some *un blogger, then a debate about the football version of “Sounds of the Seventies” rounding off with a debate about the “inevitable” anti Catholic persecution due post 2014.

All worthy topics and some interesting points but I would only like to point out a few things. The most obvious anti Catholic bigotry was a problem in Scotland whilst we were part of the UK, so I fail to see that the we would revert to those days under a new political regime. Secondly, as was pointed out earlier, the Catholic vote will have great political clout before and after the referendum, so why would we vote for a party with an “Orange” agenda?

I also believe that all politicians , no matter what colour of rosette they sport, follow the path of least resistance. They will do anything for power, and to maintain their privileged positions.

  15. Positivity beats negativity, every time;

    – The tribute to Jock Stein on BBC Radio last week was a delight

    – Today is the 55th Anniversary of Hampden in the Sun

    – We are preparing for a match with the best team on the planet, and we are there on merit

    – Danny McGrain is 1st team coach – Paul67, this is indeed great news

Lets put all that rubbish from negative influences to the side for a bit; Life is good if you concentrate on the positive, and you will live longer; fact :-)

Thanks for that. We are indeed caught between the devil and the deep blue sea here in Scotia – the evil that is most certainly the British establishment vs the bigotry of our fellow Scots :(( The only hope of success is the death of sevco, and the infiltration of the Scottish OO by those of us with ambiguous surnames :)) …oh, and the collapse of the meeja and the PR companies it sponges from.

Howmany do aged to the disaster memorial was there an official club donation?

SNP had their chance to address the national shame and kept it secret, why would anyone believe it will be done after an election.

You serious ? you know more bigots than sensible people? trifling issues like , economy, taxation, defence, social welfare will be put on the back burner whilst they set about closing some of our best schools?

    Y`er aff yer heid!

  21. I am so happy to see Danny get the recognition he deserves. He was the player I always wanted to see on the ball when I was a boy and I felt our club treated him badly at the end of his playing career.

I was at a smoker in carfin hibs a few years back and Danny was there along with the late great Tommy Burns. The panel were all asked who the greatest player was they had played against or with and without hesitation Tommy said this man here pointing at Danny. You can’t get much better a commendation than that. Best of luck to you Danny.
