Don’t book travel to Edinburgh, lobby for league merger

807

If you are missing your competitive football fix you’ll have devoured the fixture list this morning but it’s still over seven weeks until the first league game of the season, when the league flag will fly before we face Ross County (we will have played a Champions League qualifier five weeks from today).

Thereafter, due to the postponement of a home game to allow for a financially lucrative friendly, Celtic are on the road six times in nine league fixtures, so if our away form is anything like it was for much of last season, it’s likely we will be in the mix, instead of clear leaders, come the end of October.

After an absence of some time, Celtic have a local derby to look forward to.  They meet Partick Thistle at Firhill on 26th October with the return game at Celtic Park set for New Year’s Day.  We are scheduled for two trips to the Capital within a month but don’t go booking your flights for the Hearts game in September, just in case…..

Curious news today that Celtic director and BT chief executive, Ian Livingston, will leave the telecoms company after five years at the top to become Minister for Trade and Investment in the coalition government.  Livingston will serve from the House of Lords.  How about boosting the ailing Scottish football industry by lobbying for a merger with a neighbouring league?

Have you bought a ticket for Firday night’s Lions Roar event?  Join hundreds of Celtic fans and the Lisbon Lions to watch the Lisbon game and for a Q&A afterwards.

    Bobby moore

his last game was 1975 fulham v west ham. Big billys was the same day. My uncle wrote to him wishing him all the best for the game and said how much he had enjoyed watching during his career. Mr moore wrote back hand written on fulham fc headed paper sayin celtic were a club he greatly admired and wished us well against airdrie. Nice touch from a gentleman and truly world class player. Never mind clowns like gascoigne, he is an english footballing icon they can be proud of

Slightly tongue and cheek re Messi – I was in Christchurch when he was quite impressive at Celtic Park in 2008.

    And I still like Eric!

This is a Mexico side who’ve scored 3 in 5 Central Amwrican WC qualifiers and have the supposedly magnificent Brazilians on the rack

    Can’t have this Brazil sefence

  5. Barrera’s introduction is causing Brazil all kinds of problems, can’t see them scoring though.

  6. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

Bobby Charlton was a truly great player; not exactly a ray of sunshine off the pitch but blessed on it.

Now his reputation is elbowed aside by the likes of Keegan, or heaven forfend, Gascoigne.

I hear what you are saying, but Henrik knew little about Celtic when he joined us, and I always felt very proud of the fact that his love for Celtic was ‘meteoric’….Tommy was ‘one of us’ and, as you say, he lived his whole life for Celtic. Difficult to explain what I mean…..I used to get excited every time Henrik went anywhere near the ball…never felt that way about any other player in any team…

Jair did score in every game. Muller scored more in the tournament but didn’t score in one game. Not a bad front two though.

I was merely pointing out that you talk as much mince about football as you do about everything else.

Since you are a moron I would expect nothing less.

Bobby Charlton – good player. Ramsay took him off v Germany in 70 when England was winning and replaced him with Norman Hunter. Might have had something to do with them losing.

Spot on. Taking oof charlton gave der kaiser the freedom to attack and helmed england in. Tried to save charltons legs for semi v italy. Peter bonetti had a shocker too. Shame :o)

  21. 67Heaven, Che, both valid points of view.

Henriks love grew, he knew nothing of the Club when he arrived, but by the time he left….

Tommy Burns and Paul McStay were born to love Celtic, whether they played for the first team or not, that is the only difference, is one more a Tim than the other? Hmmmmm.

    After some thought…..

    Not for me,

It’s the old nature or nurture debate coming up again.

  22. Greenyinfurrafenian

I liked Bonetti – played for Dundee United in 79/80. Career never recovered from Leon. Banks wasn’t a bad ‘keeper. Best I ever saw in the flesh was Croy for Sachsenring in 76. Banks best on TV

The heat of the mid day sun, one of the stupidist sayings I have ever heard, must have been coined by an englishman.
