Doors closing across Europe

318

I watched as passageway surfaces were wiped down at Celtic Park ahead of kick-off on Saturday, an early visible sign that a public health alert is on the horizon.  Actions will not stop at a bucket, cloth and a dash of Dettol.

Games are already being played behind closed doors in Italy and France.  Today’s total of confirmed cases in the UK is 285, France surpassed that figure five days ago, it is possible public events will face similar restrictions here within a week.  If Germany and Spain take similar restrictive measures in the next few days, the UK will inevitably follow.

Celtic have one home game between now and when the league resumes after the split on the weekend of 18/19 April, so there will be little commercial impact if games here are played behind closed doors, but there is a crucial Scottish Cup semi-final on 12 April.  We would all rather be there than watching on TV.

The issue is more likely to see complications for our players who travel across Europe and beyond on international duty this month.  France under-21s travel to Liechtenstein in two weeks, which is 160 miles from northern Italy.  We have more than a passing interest in that game.  The principality is served by air from Zurich; it is impossible to tell what travel arrangements will be like in central Europe at that time.

We should also spare a thought for those with the burden of financing community clubs, where survival worries will be very real right now.

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.

Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people. Detailed investigations found that SARS-CoV was transmitted from civet cats to humans and MERS-CoV from dromedary camels to humans. Several known coronaviruses are circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans.

  3. Macjay1 – Philbhoy – me neither in the North of Glasgow.

But managing 70odd staff and there being a further 120 in our parent company I think it could be something that we might have to consider. I think they say 1 in 5 could contract it, but will that employee let us know?

I’m not panicking but I am planning to put more measures in place than we have already.

    I was just wondering…

  4. If Celtic play a 352 formation on Sunday we could win 5-0.

But it might see us beat.

We don’t need to win 5-0, in fact we don’t have to win.

I would bring Forrest n Griffiths n Rogic on as subs and start a 541….

The virus is made in a lab in China and was tested on animals which got in the food chain.

other conspiracy theory i heard was that the yanks created it and deliberately infected china with it to cripple their economy

but i have heard scientists say it cant be a man made virus

    so im good with that

  6. I think there is little doubt it originated in China. Apparently there is a strong link between Wuhan & a area in Northern Italy linked to the Textile Trade.

This is the accepted reason that Northern Italy appears to be the European epi-centre of virus.

Anyhow it appears in a few months we will all know someone who has had the virus and over the next 12 months 50% of the contributors here will have contracted the virus.

There are about 60 million inhabitants in the UK of which about 300 confirmed cases – so the chances of knowing someone is very slim at the moment – however the numbers can quickly change.

250,000 going to Cheltenham over the next few days. If it was a horsey disease it would be off.

  8. lets all do the huddle on

the daily record and evening times are all over the nacho novo story from EK

i hope they find out and print the story about him that has been going round EK for a few weeks and happened, well had its origin, in a pub just 30 yards down the road from the location of the footage that has been doing the rounds today

there must be a fair chance the 2 things are linked

  9. lets all do the huddle on

so if they think around 50% of us will catch the virus

and it will kill around 3% of those who get it

that means i have a 1.5% chance of dying

if someone told me i had a 1.5% chance of winning the lottery i wouldnt get excited about it so not going to be planning my own funeral yet

but i will start washing my hands 😁

    The crucial factor.

Fatality most often in the over `60s.

AND those who have a compromised immune system.

IN NO POSITION TO ADVISE YOU , but the second factor may well apply to you in your situation and to some of your employees .

Personally , I would be over cautious rather than under .

    Your call.

  11. Gene, They are the stats that the top guys over here are giving out.

I hope to God it doesn’t come to that.

  12. Fairhill bhoy… Ive had a few riddies after posting on cqn…. A couple of times ive posted cringeworthy stuff. To be honest, I think most people look for the best in other Celtic fan’s traits…. So don’t be bothering.

GFTB is a good read and is always positive about Celtic.

    2 good tims…. Daft arguin’.

Corkcelt ffs that’s cheered me up 😂😂😂

Thank goodness I am a fit 21 year old cough, cough.

  14. Let’s all

That percentage is overall ,- it’s far lower for the young and higher for the elderly with underlying health problems – a bit like me.

  15. GENE

    Me too!

I’m diabetic, fighting a losing battle with a chest infection and I’ll be 71 in a month.

    Apart from that I’m fine.

  16. For the avoidance of doubt I am not a 21 year old and don’t have a cough….. Yet

I read something earlier in work saying if you have came into contact with someone from the affected areas and there is a list category 1’s and Category 2’s then there is the Hotel in Tenerife not in a Category. WTF poor hotel couldn’t even make a category.

But we are relying on people, staff, tenants, customers telling us that they have been in these areas so many flaws in that, but hey what can you do.

That’s why it could spread so quickly I suppose if people do not isolate themselves.

Staff who do not get sick pay will come to work as SSP will not pay bills and you could wait months to claim Universal Credit again another reason why they are suggesting a pandemic I suppose.

    D. :)

  17. Lets All do the Huddle, The percentages don’t work out exactly like that.

If you are young & healthy there is almost a zero percentage of dying from the virus if you are elderly or have a respiratory or immunity problems the percentage increases.

If you are both elderly and also have respiratory or underlying health issues the virus could have very serious implications.

  18. Corkcelt

From your post a few days ago the archdiocese of Birmingham has announced extra precautions

    No communal hymn books

    No Holy water

    No sign of peace

Communion by Host in the hand

Priest to use sanitizer gel before distribution of communion.

No offetary plates to be passed round (so not all bad news)

    No refreshments after Mass

  19. On the Coronavirus…. If I had to bet my house right now…. I would say Sunday’s game will be behind closed doors.

That percentage is overall ,- it’s far lower for the young and higher for the elderly with underlying health problems – a bit like me.

im definitely not young but no quite old so i will probably float around the average

they young whipper-snappers get all the luck

  21. I for one will face whatever comes my way, but my health is relatively ok although I have Cirrhosis/Fatty liver it is working fine, caught it early.

You guys who have issues should be trying to isolate yersell as much as feasibly possible.

    Stay safe Bhoys and Ghirls

  22. Philbhoy, I think the 50/60% is a worst case scenario.

I’m 72 but am relatively healthy, well as far as I know anyway.

However if this really kicks off, I’m mentally prepared for a major life style change to improve the odds,

Hello again all you young rebels.

Off on a wee cruise this fine morning with my princess.

Thought it might have been cancelled as they offered us the chance

to get our money back if we backed out, but no, we’re from Glesgy lol.

So going down to New Zealand and all the main cities, wonder if

TOURANGA BHOY our furthest away CQN tim will be about when i get

there ( if ) for a beer or three.

Anyhows cases all packed, one full of Celtic tops so any tims won’t miss

me, and i’ve met them all over the world.

Next post will be from the big ship.

leicester just denied a penalty that looked much more of the penalty than the one they did get which had went to VAR

the one they did get wont be given next season because it hit the defender on the shoulder

shouldnt have been given there either

VAR is doing my nut in

Unfortunately like the coronavirus it has spread throughout the football authorities and the MSM –

Dr Peter Lawwell had the chance to administer the antidote but failed so to do.

Fortunately there’s a chance that it may die on it’s own.
