Echoes of great Celtic teams

1910

I thought it was the emerging influence of Nir Biton as a central midfield influence who transformed Celtic against Hearts on Sunday; he looked that good.  If anything, Celtic were better in his absence last night, more fluid, more incisive, against a better team.

It’s all about shape.  The correct shape gives players time on the ball when they need it, allows them to look industrious, not static, and makes them difficult to counteract.  The only two questions are: can we maintain it, and when was the last time a Celtic team controlled the ball like this?

Forget about trying to maintain this in Barcelona, that’s far too risky, but if we can play like this at Tynecastle and Fir Park we can do so anywhere else in Scotland.  Don’t think we’ve played like this since the Centenary Season.

It’s difficult to interpret the vandalism at Fir Park last night.  As Celtic fans we don’t have a point of reference for this stuff.  “Had enough.  Won’t be back at another away game”, was the verdict of a friend I spoke to, who has probably missed no more than 40 domestic away games in the last 40 years.  The proportion of Celtic fans who would never vandalise seats is well above 99%, but there’s a new and unwelcome phenomenon in British football and Celtic have the best views in the country.

Getting back to more familiar ground, The Kano Foundation asked me to pass on this message:

“The Kano Foundation World Cup 2014 Predictor

Friends,

2013 has been a world class year for The Kano Foundation. We’ve had our first ever bucket collection, held our 3rd annual dance, welcomed groups from across Scotland, England and Ireland, and last but by no means least we will welcome our 2000th child to Celtic Park. All this would not be possible without your unwavering support.

As we move towards the new year, The Kano Foundation are always keen to continue our work while bringing you the fans new and exciting ways to support us. The fabulous prizes on offer at our Golf Day in September are just one example.

To keep up this form, we are delighted to announce a very special competition ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

We will be running a predictor competition unlike many others. At first reading our two part predictor is very similar to others where you enter the scores and winners for the 72 games.

However, we are also offering an unbelievable bonus prize fund of £10,000 for anyone who can correctly predict the outcome of all 48 group games . Yes, that’s correct – £10,000 to be shared amongst all entrants who can correctly predict the general outcome (winner or draw) for the all the group games.

In order to run both competitions we are asking entrants to make a one-off donation of £10. From the funds raised 50% will go as a donation to TKF with the remaining 50% available for prizes.

With just 100 entrants, not only can we raise a £500 prize fund for the predictor, we can also take over 200 kids to a game at Celtic Park. A tidy reward for a just few minutes brain effort!

All you need to do to enter is register you interest by email at:

wcpredictor@thekanofoundation.com Please include TKFWCPred as the email/paypal subject and tell us your user/team name so we can verify your entry. If you’ve not got enough room, enter as much detail as you can and tell us what you’ve done so we help.

Then make your payment into The Kano Foundation bank account (30-13-01 00989961 through Paypal or by sms by texting KANO11 £10 to 70070 – remember to include your name/email address.

Visit our predictor webpage (coming soon) to find more details and follow your progress

Once again, we hope we can rely on your support to make this predictor a success for us in terms of fundraising and for potentially making one of you £10,000 richer!

Thank You

The Kano Foundation”

Congratulations to the Celtic fans who run and support The Kano Foundation, our community is rightly proud of the. Register your interest by emailing: wcpredictor@thekanofoundation.com.

    Welcome……are you sur you`re not a Hun ? 0:-)

I wouldn`t worry too much about their bragging that they would bring Scottish football down with them. With Dundee Utd playing as they are; Aberdeen looking more like a team; Thistle playing a fine brand of football;Hearts gaining a CVA; Hibs getting a good manager and Celtic beginning to put in some wonderful displays, I feel the current (!) SPFL is doing OK

Also, for whatever reason, the Huns are still turning out in massive numbers to watch a third tier team. Scottish football is doing alright.

The Media, however, is really struggling. They only have themselves to blame, of course. They should have realised that, in spite of their massive propaganda effort, fans of all clubs did not want the New Rangers given preferential treatment. Had they learned from that experience and reported more honestly, then maybe their circulation figures would not be so dismal.

Why didn’t you just say that you are a backer of the GB, and anti board and PL instead of all your university guff about a wee woman from Castlemilk who in your opinion was ignorant and didn’t know what she was talking about, your pompous arrogance tells me you kind of think anyone from Castlemilk who has an opinion different from you has no education, seems like the world owes you a living because you where born, or came from Castlemilk, we are what we are in Castlemilk, so come down from your crucifix and like the GB stop playing the martyr.

    Petition signed.

I suppose I am so cynical of the ” ESTABLISHMENT” in any country that I have doubts about the success of petitions. I do believe, though, that signing helps ease the misery for those whom the petition is all about. For that reason alone, I would urge others to support Big Nan`s petition (s).

I genuinely enjoy your posts. They have a certain rawness about them and are completely honest.

I also enjoy SFTB`s posts. They are incisive and very well reasoned.

I am certain that SFTB is neither arrogant nor pompous.

When you said: “we are what we are in Castlemilk, ” you make it sound like people in Castlemilk are different from other people. Are they? Certainly not the case in my experience. No better. No worse. No different.

Not yet as far as I know. Think it’s going to be a cqn mag piece.

Nonsense mate. Nowhere near 90% Oldco. Remember the Scotland team in the 70s usually had at least four Celtic players. Its hard to break down the numbers of TA fans as to who they supported then, but I do agree there were more Oldco than anyone but I reckon about 25% tops is nearer the mark

So Fridays little excursion was a why all the fuss then? Tell me your at the wind up? The days of wembley are long gone, that was then this is now, it’s not acceptable for Celtic supporters to act like that, same as it wasn’t acceptable to flash your arse in trafalger square, but people done it, so to condone what happened on Friday beggars belief, every one of my mates who sat in the Brazen Head said, time for the GB to go, not acceptable, so GB …..on yer bike, my opinion.

What exactly did they do ?

That’s was my point, what you see is what you get not only in Castlemilk, but all of Glasgow, no better, no worse, just different from others, in a good way.

Had a conversation with a reasonably intelligent hun supporter on Saturday, (- on the way to having to suffer Kris Boyd scoring the winning goal….but that’s another sickening episode I want to forget.)

In the end I had to say – looks like we’ll never agree on this.

Used in my retorts a lot of good ones supplied from here……why did they have to ‘transfer’ the licence? Etc, Etc.

Same reply…..business is not the same as the club.

Logical conclusion then is that no club can cease to exist through financial mismanagement.

Hearts fans – what are they worried about?

The people at Airdrie must be sick at wasting all that time and money re-branding Clydebank. and calling themselves ‘United’. And why are Clydebank not still on the go?

It was like being back in the playgrouind trying to reason with someone holding hands over ears and repeating, “Not listening. Not listening. Not listening. NaNanNanNaaaaaaa.”

Had to change the subject for my own sanity and decorum.

  17. mighty tim supporting wee Oscar on

Good morning Bhoys and Ghirls. Thank you for all the good wishes on the birth of my grandson Cillian yesterday very much appreciated.

Because of the problems my daughter had with her labour (4 days) and due to work commitments I have not been on the site to much, however I am reading back a bit and find myself stunned to see that some of the very best Celtic men around that I have met in almost 50 years following the hoops, have decided to take a sabbatical from the blog. I find that very sad.

When I first came on here about 3/4 years back these bhoys made me feel welcome. They also invited me to meet them and share in a few beers with them. Which I gladly accepted being the sociable person that I am. These same bhoys also showed me the true meaning of the term The Celtic Family, not the Plc version. They were part of the reason that I had the honour of being a bucketeer for wee Oscar and the Dam bhoys. They helped organise charity nights for Oscar which raised a lot of money to help the wee man in his incredible fight. They are still working hard behind the blog organising events to help our bhoys who were attacked and wrongfully detained in Amsterdam get the justice they so deserve. The bottom line is if anyone on this site needed help in anyway these bhoys would step up to the plate. I know that at first hand as I have needed help or been a bit down recently through family problems or work issues. No matter what even just needing someone to talk to and these bhoys are there with a wee phone call, email or invite for a beer. I am proud to call them friends.

Now what I am getting at here is that these bhoys all have one thing in common, Celtic.

They may have other things in common in their lives, I know they don’t always agree on everything as the conversations when in their company can be enlightening. But I know for certain they all share a love for the Hoops. What I find shameful is that other people come on this site and openly slag them off for defending Celtic and Celtic fans, well in my opinion that is a disgrace. The recent reaction to Fir Park is an example. None have said that what happened was acceptable, what was said was that until there is proof of who did the damage do not just blame the Green Brigade.

We know first hand how the SMSM like to treat us in this country, like to look for anything negative to put in print but are more than willing to cover up the biggest sporting crime ever in British sport, possibly world sport. They continually lie about the same club pish,do not report the abuse, coin throwing, flare throwing, song repertoire or general intimidation that goes on wherever the sevconians gather. But that is ok some bad bhoys busted some seats and the PC brigade help denigrate our fans and give the SMSM the fuel to claim we are divided and another stick in which to beat us with. Sad really.

So for what it is worth I would like to say that this site will be a sadder place without these bhoys, so blantyretim and hamiltomtim get back on bhoys shoulder to shoulder we stand.

As for the ones that want to slag, the timposters and hunterlopers why don’t you all do one and politely take a f…ing sabbatical.

I wonder if any Celtic fans who had a ticket for the affected area on Friday feel like lodging a complaint about the overcrowding?

Clear breach of Ground Licencing Requirements which was ignored by the stewards and police.

If I bought a ticket to a show,I’d be pretty miffed if someone came along and took my seat. Even more so if I was in it at the time!
