Echoes of great Celtic teams

1910

I thought it was the emerging influence of Nir Biton as a central midfield influence who transformed Celtic against Hearts on Sunday; he looked that good.  If anything, Celtic were better in his absence last night, more fluid, more incisive, against a better team.

It’s all about shape.  The correct shape gives players time on the ball when they need it, allows them to look industrious, not static, and makes them difficult to counteract.  The only two questions are: can we maintain it, and when was the last time a Celtic team controlled the ball like this?

Forget about trying to maintain this in Barcelona, that’s far too risky, but if we can play like this at Tynecastle and Fir Park we can do so anywhere else in Scotland.  Don’t think we’ve played like this since the Centenary Season.

It’s difficult to interpret the vandalism at Fir Park last night.  As Celtic fans we don’t have a point of reference for this stuff.  “Had enough.  Won’t be back at another away game”, was the verdict of a friend I spoke to, who has probably missed no more than 40 domestic away games in the last 40 years.  The proportion of Celtic fans who would never vandalise seats is well above 99%, but there’s a new and unwelcome phenomenon in British football and Celtic have the best views in the country.

Getting back to more familiar ground, The Kano Foundation asked me to pass on this message:

“The Kano Foundation World Cup 2014 Predictor

Friends,

2013 has been a world class year for The Kano Foundation. We’ve had our first ever bucket collection, held our 3rd annual dance, welcomed groups from across Scotland, England and Ireland, and last but by no means least we will welcome our 2000th child to Celtic Park. All this would not be possible without your unwavering support.

As we move towards the new year, The Kano Foundation are always keen to continue our work while bringing you the fans new and exciting ways to support us. The fabulous prizes on offer at our Golf Day in September are just one example.

To keep up this form, we are delighted to announce a very special competition ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

We will be running a predictor competition unlike many others. At first reading our two part predictor is very similar to others where you enter the scores and winners for the 72 games.

However, we are also offering an unbelievable bonus prize fund of £10,000 for anyone who can correctly predict the outcome of all 48 group games . Yes, that’s correct – £10,000 to be shared amongst all entrants who can correctly predict the general outcome (winner or draw) for the all the group games.

In order to run both competitions we are asking entrants to make a one-off donation of £10. From the funds raised 50% will go as a donation to TKF with the remaining 50% available for prizes.

With just 100 entrants, not only can we raise a £500 prize fund for the predictor, we can also take over 200 kids to a game at Celtic Park. A tidy reward for a just few minutes brain effort!

All you need to do to enter is register you interest by email at:

wcpredictor@thekanofoundation.com Please include TKFWCPred as the email/paypal subject and tell us your user/team name so we can verify your entry. If you’ve not got enough room, enter as much detail as you can and tell us what you’ve done so we help.

Then make your payment into The Kano Foundation bank account (30-13-01 00989961 through Paypal or by sms by texting KANO11 £10 to 70070 – remember to include your name/email address.

Visit our predictor webpage (coming soon) to find more details and follow your progress

Once again, we hope we can rely on your support to make this predictor a success for us in terms of fundraising and for potentially making one of you £10,000 richer!

Thank You

The Kano Foundation”

Congratulations to the Celtic fans who run and support The Kano Foundation, our community is rightly proud of the. Register your interest by emailing: wcpredictor@thekanofoundation.com.

If she was getting in the way of the fitba, aye!

If it was only a film or a play,I’d maybe consider my options.

    Then I’d waken up….

  2. BMCUW… i see there was report of an illuminating alien in bristol harbour a few days ago…. wasn’t you out for one of yer weekend binges??

SofTunis – I’m sorry to hear that; there should be a circle reserved in Hell for film makers who ruin great books.

I’ve bought the book for my youngest for Christmas, having decided that she doesn’t read enough.

    Apart from ‘Vogue’, that is.

Not likely. Never been known to be illuminating.

  5. Many others have made a comment so here`s one from me:

As far as I can gather, the throwing of flares and breaking of seats were not acts committed by the GB.

Those who did commit these acts deserve to be criticised/punished.

    The GB do not.

PS If your views are based on the reporting in the MSSM, you deserve to be criticised/punished, jailed , deported, flogged etc, etc.

  6. Talking of bad films. Went to see ” Gravity.” What a let down that was!

Almost the same here…though I thought the film was so bad it had a certain charm to it :o)

  8. People who highlight minor grammar points are amazing

The ability to spot a minor grammar error is proof that you are amazing, it has been confirmed.

    “That is a common misconception”

Researchers at the Institute for Studies found that people who loudly exclaim about apostrophes and ‘who versus whom’ are actually better than everyone else.

Professor Henry Brubaker said: “In no way are any of these people vain, arsey pedants.

“Grammar perfectionists are both intellectually and morally superior to other types of human.

“The way they selflessly dedicate themselves to correct punctuation, for example by pointing out to the staff of a chip shop why the term ‘chip’s’ is a sloppy obfuscation, confirms they are bold and righteous individuals.

“If grammar people just learned to let things go sometimes, where would we be as a civilisation? Just fighting in mud, probably.”

    56-year-old Roy Hobbs said:

“Heaven forbid that my scrupulous attention to linguistic detail should be driven by intellectual vanity.”

“The reason I loudly vocalise my frustration about a writer confusing ‘that’ and which’ is because of my passion for good English.

“It’s not that I want a crowded room to know how clever I am.”

43-year-old pedant Mary Fisher said: “So we are ‘generally better’? Better than whom?

    Better is a relative term.

They are not like me, I don’t wreck stadiums, or state my politics at a football game, I go to support my team Celtic, nor do university students or trade unionists tell what to do while I am at Celtic park. I am not against unions, but I don’t want them interfering with MY club using them as a rung on the ladder to meet there agenda, that’s not on.

  10. Googybhoy

If you have to ask that question, then it doesent deserve an answer, you need to do a little bit of investigation into the GB, and you are not alone in that in here, but then again maybe deep down you know, and you are being naughty.

I don’t really consider myself to be a pedant, just someone who likes ripping the p..h a bit.

Really poor grammar etc can indeed be very annoying-especially split infinitives,haha-but to be honest there is little grammar involved in speech.

We seem to manage fine without it.

  12. What was the worse movie you ever payed in to see?

Wummins pictures (Titanic) that you were forced into seeing don’t count.

I believe mine may have been the ‘classic’Al Pacino ‘thriller’

  16. Last week I remarked that now that we had put on a couple of fantastic performances on the park that most of us would probably stop arguing about the football, that seemed to happen but it has not taken long for many to start arguing about other things and strangely enough, one or two who complain about personal attacks and abuse don’t seem to be slow at throwing out, well……personal attacks and abuse.

I will say up front that I am completely against any kind of wanton vandalism as seen on Friday night, no excuses. What I think concerns me and many others is the indecent haste for both members of the SMSM and sadly, some of our own to put the boot in at any opportunity. I have just read the latest PMG blog, has anyone else read about it anywhere in the mainstream? Not likely, the level of hatred and intimidation is absolutely mindblowing. I’m almost certain that quite a few of these media clowns are tuned into the various discussions that we have on this and other blogs and that many will be very aware of how easy it can be to cause an open sore between Celtic fans who will traditionally debate and question. The last thing we have to do is to provide these muppets with any ammunition which they will use as soon as the opportunity arises.

Just remember, while we are in-fighting about broken plastic seats, the biggest and most fraudulent scandal in British sport is passing us by with almost nary a mention in the same mainstream press. As I have said many times in the past, I have one question only. If there was no sporting advantage to having an EBT, why use them? Why will no journalist in Scotland ask this simple question.

  20. tonydonnelly67,

Am I correct in thinking you are looking to have a face-to-face meeting with a “senior member/leader” of the Green Brigade? Or is it some other form of communication you have in mind?

If so,I’m not aware of any GB members who post on here who might be able to facilitate such a thing.

However,I know for sure that a number of GB members (don’t know if they are considered leaders) post on The Huddleboard. If you don’t post there yourself then I’m sure you’ll know someone who does and perhaps they could provide the details you are looking for or ask the question on there.

    Hope this helps
