Edouard and Kyogo productive partnership

231

Celtic’s first half display against Hearts yesterday saw the length of the M8 between the teams.  The visitors put bodies in the way but were unable to stem the tide towards Craig Gordon’s goal.  A sublime pass by Kyogo Furuhashi gave James Forrest space to turn inside and dink a cross that was expertly converted by Odsonne Edouard.

Edouard turned provider when Stephen Welsh towered over the defence to head home as the roof threatened to fall in on the visitors.  Hearts stabilised after the break but were not in the contest in any meaningful way until Carl Starfelt mis-controlled the ball inside his penalty area, allowing Liam Boyce to get in the way of his second attempt, resulting in a penalty that was converted by the Hearts stirker.

That sparked Celtic back into life and they soon restored their two-goal cushion through Kyogo.  Hearts added time second goal flattered them and came too late to cause any concern.

One of my concerns this month is that we do not shift Odsonne and he leaves on a free at the end of the season.  On this showing, a season of him and Kyogo would not be totally without compensation.  The partnership looked very promising.

“I am talking about people who have dealings with the squad in a non football capacity.

Taxi drivers / hospitality / support staff and the like.”

OK- for these data points to be convincing, I’d need an estimate of how many there were.

I know people in Inverness who have told me good things about Ryan and his dad. I listen and accept that this is hteir view of someone but I still don’t know the real Ryan Christie any better than I know about Princess Diana or Marilyn Monroe, both have been much written about and their are very few facts about them that have been uncovered but so much of it is mythologised and biased information that cannot be trusted.

As for James Forrest, he had an assist and he played Adam Montgomery and Edouard (again) in for two great goal scoring chances. I wouldn’t have put him in my top 3 but I would have recognised his productivity, as did Ange in keeping him on.

  2. Thanks to everyone for their NT suggestions and to Mr Mad for his translation.

Mibbees I’m out of touch but I have never met anyone who refers to Scotland as NT.

    EDIASD, it would seem…🙂

You make my point for me.

Our highlights are when JF can be bothered.

What about the other 85 minutes when he was the waste of a jersey.

The difference between him and LA — in performance — is currently huge.

The difference between him and AR — attitude / performance is even bigger.

Pass from KF yesterday — he should have taken the chance himself.

But he didn’t — he delayed then passed on the ball / responsibility to OE.

He made things more complex than they needed to be with the increased potential of a mistake / interception.

I rate JF probably higher than he does himself at the moment.

He is currently JJK with a goal threat.

I think there’s quite a few of us coming round to that conclusion.

If Eddy stays, gets 20 – 25 goals and we win the league and qualify direct for the Champions League that would do for me.

  6. On the JF debate. I’m a big fan and thought he had a decent game yesterday.

I do think he has a bit of adjusting to do regarding Anges system of playing it quicker, as he regularly takes too many touches and holds onto the ball too long.

    Just my opinion

Bankie – the transition still has to be financed. Unless there a rights issue/capital raising, we need the European money to rebuild.

  8. Especially bearing in mind the massive sell-on clause to PSG when Eddy goes. I don’t know whether it’s 40% of the transfer fee or 40% of our profit but either way, Champions League money would go a long way to offsetting any loss of income from his sale.

It’s a risky strategy – it makes the league win that much more of an imperative.

Or as someone else might say it makes the massive SOC to PSG when OE goes that much more important to replace by CL money from an SPL win to offset the LOI.

I think that RC will have a great career in football — big talent / lots of energy.

However he diminished in my eyes due to last season’s “strike” where he just wandered about doing nothing apart from taking out the odd guy in Row Z.

I do not know him or his family personally and he always seems to come over pretty well in interviews / on the TV. However his father’s comments are a matter of public record and do his son no favours at all.

Consequently I was intrigued when recent conversations about the awkward squad at CP — expecting stuff about LG / ON to figure strongly — brought up RC a couple of times to my great surprise.

Football is a results game — personality is second.

However he was a waste of a jersey last season and needs to up his game substantially.

Consequently acting the erse while delivering nothing in the SPL is not a good place to be.

He has made good progress on that front — maybe for us / maybe for a move.

Plus he might be growing up in a very public space.

The youth of today are zoomers in a lot of cases.

So I will wait and see what happens.

We are struggling to fund the rebuild so something has to give.

However RC is a big talent which hopefully he develops to our benefit.

“‘Furuhashi can ‘handle” rough stuff”, so Shortie tell us.

Would this be an issue or question in any league other than the SPL?

Why are skilful, exciting players not welcomed and protected in Scotland?

  11. India declare 298-8. England 270 to win. Root and Buttler spend an age in the middle, seemingly discussing what roller to use on the pitch. Are England going to go for this?

He’s a liar and I’m not sure about you

    KirstyMCollCSC

  13. 272 to win for England, and it was Root and Bairstow discussing the roller. Must improve the accuracy of my cricket reports lest I get compared to sports journalism in the Daily Record, that would never do.

  14. I dont believe there is a 40% sell on clause of anything received over the original fee.

That would be very unLawwell like.

looking in the archives, the original sources were scottish jounos, im May last year, in the first wave of pandemic and celtic just crowned league champions and rumours of big bids coming in.

  15. “On this showing, a season of him and Kyogo would not be totally without compensation.”

That all depends on whether we need the money to reinvest.

If we can keep Eddie AND sign Juranovic, Lovric, Scales and a centre-back then yes, taking the hit of not selling Eddie would have some benefits.

However, if keeping Eddie means we come out of the window with what we have, it’d be a disaster in my opinion.

  16. Does anyone know any of the Scottish Main Stream Media outlets who now sponsor Sevco to the tune of £25 a year???

    D :)

  17. There are 20 outfield players on the pitch at any one time (obviously ignoring sending offs, injuries, kidnaps and so on).

In an even statistical spread, a player is likely to be directly in control of the ball for four and a half minutes. This will obviously vary with position, formation and style of play.

For James Forrest to be actively influential for 5 minutes, given his forward position and demands of essentially being the penultimate link in the chain from back through midfield and then to bring in the other attackers, is testament to his ability, stamina, skill and attitude.

For a ‘Celtic’ supporter to demean his contribution with such a sketchy rationale raises more questions about that critic’s motivation and football appreciation causing blindness to how a player can influence a game by occupying the attention of defenders thus freeing up others to provide an alternative cutting edge.

  18. A well placed taxi driving hospitality working greenkeepr told me bad stories about Ryan so he did.

  19. fieldofdrams- unfortunately the Eddy situation looks like lasting till the end of the Window ,looks like a buyer’s market at that point, do we sell him cheaper than we thought, or keep an unhappy player? I would sell….

  20. Eddie…………my understanding is………….any thing over 9ml they get x%……..have heard anywhere from 18% to 40%.

  21. Stat! It’s the first time ever in a home Test that both England openers have been out for a duck.

  22. Rumours on KDS that Dominic has outbid Lawwell’s offers for Juranovic, Scales, Couto, Lovric and Henry, so we actually might be in with a shout.

“the read-back smells a bit now btw”.

Can you explain this please ,its from the last page on the previous thread .

  24. Garngad to Croy on

    TIMHORTON

Is the sell on clause 18% to 40% over £9 million or 18% to 40% on any fee ? It always confuses me that one !

  25. It’s clear that both Christie and Eduoard are leaving on Bosmans.

There seems to be no clubs interested in buying and they will be able to gain financially if no transfer fee is involved. What can the club do? Even if we get an acceptable offer from a club, they still need to agree the personal terms. Christie can already talk to other clubs without Celtics permission. There have even been reports that Brighton could not agree personal terms with Eduoard,

I was reported that Celtic were prepared to bump Hibs over John McGinn and sign him on a precontract, So we can hardly complain.

These players could be worth £25m – £30m to Celtic and even with Fees and Payaways we will lose a large sum.

We need to back the manager and we need at least 2 defensive players in, It appears we are waiting for sales income before buying new players, but, if I am right we will not get any substantial income, a development fee from Hjelde perhaps.

We have to back the manager even that if it means we take on unexpected debt to get the necessary players. It was always suggested that we can bring budgets forward to cover transfers and now is the time,
