Edouard and Kyogo productive partnership

231

Celtic’s first half display against Hearts yesterday saw the length of the M8 between the teams.  The visitors put bodies in the way but were unable to stem the tide towards Craig Gordon’s goal.  A sublime pass by Kyogo Furuhashi gave James Forrest space to turn inside and dink a cross that was expertly converted by Odsonne Edouard.

Edouard turned provider when Stephen Welsh towered over the defence to head home as the roof threatened to fall in on the visitors.  Hearts stabilised after the break but were not in the contest in any meaningful way until Carl Starfelt mis-controlled the ball inside his penalty area, allowing Liam Boyce to get in the way of his second attempt, resulting in a penalty that was converted by the Hearts stirker.

That sparked Celtic back into life and they soon restored their two-goal cushion through Kyogo.  Hearts added time second goal flattered them and came too late to cause any concern.

One of my concerns this month is that we do not shift Odsonne and he leaves on a free at the end of the season.  On this showing, a season of him and Kyogo would not be totally without compensation.  The partnership looked very promising.

  1. lets all do the huddle on

james forrests biggest attribute is that he wins lots of corners

but thats just because he is such a weak wee boy that his crosses just hit the first defender 5 yards away from him because he doesnt have the stength in his legs to kick it any further

Wee Jamsie is a terrific player , very often worth the entry money on his own

    ……

Folk see the game different… slagging off one of our best players for the last decade is in my book a poor show ….

  3. Barry Ferguson of all people blown away by the Football last Sunday & name checks Kyogo, Eddie & James for their displays,

Opponents appreciate James more than many Celtic Supporters and defenders regularly double up on him.

At Celtic since he was a wean 13 Seasons in SPFL 418 appearances 94 goals, 38 International Caps & 5 International Caps.

Aw what the F**k does MON, Lenny, Delia, Rogers or Ange know continuously playing that waster,

    CQN experts know better.

  4. I assume I am like many others on here and choose who to read and who to ignore. I have never, ever alluded to my likes/dislikes before but the post at 8.01pm is, in my opinion obviously, frankly appallingly childish and insulting to everyone, including a Celtic player who we should be ‘supporting’ where/when possible, so I have now added another to the ‘scroll-by and speed up the catch up reading’ list.

Not that it matters of course in the REAL world of Ange!

“And I will repeat — you doth protest too much.

Your trawl through the ages suggests that he scored 2 goals out of 21 plus.

Not a great stat for a wide attacking player of his talent.”

    ——————————

I think the hard thing for you is that I am presenting evidence whilst you are offering perceptions without evidence. So you then guilottine the statistic to make it look worse. Only 2 goals in 24 games – not good enough??? What is the expected goal rate over that amount? Is the full contribution of 2 goals plus 6 assists not impressive enough? For a winger often used as a wing back in away games?

It will be whoever is out of form or whoever is planning to leave the club soon.

Callum has made a much better fist of the DM role this year so far than he showed any sign of doing last year. He is receiving the ball in tight places, holding on to it and recycling it well. He has fewer mistakes in him than the more all-action Soro does but neither are great in assisting the CBs when we are counter attacked. James McCarthy, if he proves fit, is taller and a better tackler and is less attack minded or suited than Callum is.

In tough away matches , Ange may play 2 DMs, James and one other, but in home games, Callum would move forward to displace either of Rogic, Turnbull or Christie as a starter. My money would be on RC if he does not re-sign with us soon. It’s all very well that he is playing well currently but, if he’s moving towards a Bosman, he should be dropping down the pecking order.

  7. AD was just after BC when JC said OMFG the GOG is full of JIs so keep yer HO and don’t worry if the RC sticks a BS in yer SP,

Good point about the Bosman , would that apply to Eddy too?

looks as though Henry has made his choice and it aint us , pity, i could see him getting a barrel load of goals with the supply we’re firing in at the mo .

  9. Sometimes I despair

Our first goal yesterday was simply beautiful, any other team scores a similar one we collectively wax lyrically about it

What happens on here some posters see this as an opportunity to rake up statistics on one of the contributors to this work of art and have a pop

    Give me strength

With the team playing so well from middle to front , does anyone have opinion who will lose their place to J McC when fit?

    ——–

Rogic i guess but you expect injuries and changes in formation, you could play a diamond and use all 4 of JM, CM, TR, DT.

  11. MM

How can you blame a winger like Forrest for squaring the ball to the free centre forward to open the scoring, instead of being greedy and shooting himself?

Ok the lad is not Garrincha or Patsy Gallagher but as one who has come through the Celtic ranks and has gone on to become a full international player, and we know how difficult that can be for Celtic players in Scotland, he deserves our support.

  12. Rogic is great to watch but for me Turnbull gets more goals and assists and his set pieces are quality. Both are great together versus SPFL cannon fodder but at a higher level i expect one or the other.

  13. Bet no one on here knows that Ange had Kenny Dalglish posters on his bedroom wall when he was growing up

  14. 31003

Why would Ange have posters of Kenny Dalglish from when he was young, through his teenage years?

  15. I think AP will use certain formations and players for different games, both here and in Europe.

Since it’s the subject header for a nuisance video that has popped up for weeks EVERY time I refresh the page or read back, I guess I knew it.

Maybe Nir Bitton will have a part to play in his preferred position in MF.

  18. Ah well,I will look again on the hour, every hour tomorrow to see who we are “Working really hard to sign”.

  19. Watched celtic vs hearts re-run tonight, confirmed we played very well indeed. My big take home is that we really need better fullbacks, one’s that can deliver a final ball/ cross that beats the first man. Lost count of the amount of dangerous positions that were taken up only for the delivery to be pony ffs. In this system a good ball beyond the 1st defender is likely to be attacked by at least 3 players charging into the box due to the overload we try to create.

Taylor and ralston could provide good back up. Preferably not in the same games mind.

  20. I wish starfelt could control a ball like James forrest!!!….some of the stuff I’m reading ..must be a wind up….

  21. While the focus of our efforts should be on strengthening our defensive options, and I stress options, as in adding to those we have now, we cannot ignore that if we lose both Eddie and Ryan, we will be a whole lot weaker up front than we are now. Not against last season when pretty much the team was out of sorts. That said, none of the back four who achieved our best result of last season, 3-2 at home against Lille, are in the team now. Ajer, gone, Duffy gone, Jullien injured, Frimpong gone. Jools will be back at some point, but only Starfelt of those brought in is getting any game time in that area of the park. Or at the Park. Big Joe is an upgrade of course and big Nir can play there if asked, but we haven’t got better options, even if our players are doing well. Up front, Ryan, Eddie and Kyogo give us good options, certainly better than Ajeti, or the Griff, and I would certainly favour offering them extended contracts with a proviso that should good offers come in now or later then we will be open to making moves happen, say Nice for example, if it suits the players. Do that, get better options at the back, we will be looking at the league title.

  22. Tom McLaughlin on

So on Friday the papers were saying Celtic had verbally agreed a fee with Legia Warsaw for the Croatian right-back Juranovic but had made an official bid that was lower than the verbal agreement.

First of all, in transfer dealings, you don’t make a verbal offer. You ask the selling club how much they want and make an official offer in writing.

Today it’s reported that Celtic have lost patience with Couto and have today made an opening bid for the Croat. In other words, there was no offer last week, verbal or otherwise.

While I and a few others – Turkeybhoy for one – rubbished the reports of an agreed verbal offer followed by a reduced official bid, a number of posters predictably accused the club of “lowballing” yet again.

    Will they ever learn?
