Efe the enigma, when our heroes get ill

480

The challenge Efe Ambrose will face should he proposed move to Hibs go through will be considerably less taxing that what he faced in the Premiership, or in Europe, with Celtic. Efe will go down in folklore as another African Cup of Nations enigma.

He was part of the heroic story against Barcelona in November 2012, before heading to the African Cup of Nations two months later. That tournament would see the player achieve the peak of his continent’s football Kilimanjaro. He played right back for champions, Nigeria.

That was on the Sunday. By the Tuesday he had been flown across the globe and made the starting line-up for Celtic in their Champions League last 16 game against Juventus. Two minutes into the game Efe was caught underneath the ball and out of position, Juventus exploited the lapse to the full.

As far as Efe’s time at the top goes, that was that. Since then his form has been on a pronounced downwards trajectory. The thing is, he’s still only 28. There was a player of considerable value in there one. If someone can bring focus to him, there may be again.

A word on matters relating to illness and medical information of our heroes…………

Pretty much everyone knew of Billy McNeill’s condition for some time but thankfully, it wasn’t subject to online speculation. There are a few guidelines on health matters which are worth observing:

Health is a private matter and should not be discussed online unless and until the person or family decide otherwise.

While we feel close to our heroes and will naturally want to offer support at a time of need, serious illness is the most private of matters, it is wholly inappropriate for a former footballer to hear his condition is a matter of public knowledge.

A bereavement should only be ‘revealed’ online by someone acting on the explicit instructions of the family. The unofficial release of this type of news is a very regretful manifestation of the internet age.

In recent years, we have seen many occasions of older celebrities’ deaths being incorrectly reported, then retweeted and retold thousands of times before it is denied. For an ill person and their family this can be a horrific experience.

The world can do without our condolences for a couple of hours until the family concerned have been able to contact all members.

These guidelines are scrupulously followed by the mainstream media in Scotland, who will hear of a footballer’s bereavement but hold the news – and prepare their reaction – until the family are ready.

For former-Celtic players, the club will usually be in touch with the family and release the news at the appropriate time. If you want to express your condolences, prepare your thoughts but hold until an official announcement.

Yeah, I’d say James Forrest is pretty heroic, actually, in terms of writing the truth that so many don’t want to hear, using his own name and standing up to threats and intimidation.

The real cowards are those who try to suppress the truth, or, at least, ignore it, for their own personal gain, no matter their motivation.

However, you miss the point. Can you distinguish between fair criticism and hatred, or are they one and the same thing to you?

    ************************************************************************************

I agree those that suppress the Truth are Cowards, perhaps Hugh is a Coward, I have no idea?

Are you the Bravest of the Brave?

    I don’t see it?

Hugh wanted to provide for his Family.

    Celtic Banned him.

That must have hurt him, coming from a Celtic Family.

Why not Ban others that actually hated the Club?

The social club of the Garryowen was a great wee place when it was in its original location in Princes Steet till being forced by the landlord (British Rail) to move to their failed Railway Club premises only to find that the new tenant was the Orange Club!!

Think Irving Welsh plagiarised the episode in some book/film called Trainspotting 2 from what I ‘heard’ when they came to take possession!!! :) .

She and her husband have chosen to leave.

    No one has been deported.

She runs , predictably , to the Guardian who decide predictably that a dog whistle is justified.

`Cos that suits their political agenda.

Her husband had a chat with the Guardian last October.

    See a trend here ?

Brexit is not the fault of Theresa May ,the Tories , Jeremy corbyn or uncle Tom Cobley.

    Thanks, that’s all I asked.

If I were the “bravest of the brave”, (or the daftest of the daft), I wouldn’t be using a moniker. But I’m not a professional journalist. He is, or was, and has played his part in creating the never-never land of Scottish sports “journalism”.

However, when he is criticised, that doesn’t equate to hate, in my book. Nor does taking the piss out of Sevco on here, because they deserve it the way they carry on, or telling their supporters the facts about their existence. You seem to have been implying recently that it does, with your references to ‘haters’.

It used to be ‘obsessed’ that was used when people challenged and/or mocked the Big Lie. Now you’re a ‘hater’ if you want the truth established in an effort to bring some Sporting integrity back to the game.

I was simply asking if you agree with that stance.

And, although it may have looked like it to you, I wasn’t “double-teaming” with anyone. I just wanted to be clear where you stood on this. Hence my question.

  12. So, how about an answer, Petec?

“However, you miss the point. Can you distinguish between fair criticism and hatred, or are they one and the same thing to you?”

  13. Petec

Oh, I think we have an answer!

I’m not sad, mate. The truth’ll set you free.

It’s guilt that wears you down.

  14. Ron, Yes if we win our next 2 games we will have 82 pts, if Aberdeen lose at home to Motherwell, the most they can reach is also 82 points. However no matter how improbable it may be they mathematically could overturn our superior goal difference in the 10 remaining games.

To officially be Champions, we have to have more points than any other team can reach.

If Aberdeen drop more points we can win it at Dundee, if not we win it at Tynecastle.

Aberdeen’s 2 next games are both at home to Motherwell & Hearts.,
