Efe the enigma, when our heroes get ill

480

The challenge Efe Ambrose will face should he proposed move to Hibs go through will be considerably less taxing that what he faced in the Premiership, or in Europe, with Celtic. Efe will go down in folklore as another African Cup of Nations enigma.

He was part of the heroic story against Barcelona in November 2012, before heading to the African Cup of Nations two months later. That tournament would see the player achieve the peak of his continent’s football Kilimanjaro. He played right back for champions, Nigeria.

That was on the Sunday. By the Tuesday he had been flown across the globe and made the starting line-up for Celtic in their Champions League last 16 game against Juventus. Two minutes into the game Efe was caught underneath the ball and out of position, Juventus exploited the lapse to the full.

As far as Efe’s time at the top goes, that was that. Since then his form has been on a pronounced downwards trajectory. The thing is, he’s still only 28. There was a player of considerable value in there one. If someone can bring focus to him, there may be again.

A word on matters relating to illness and medical information of our heroes…………

Pretty much everyone knew of Billy McNeill’s condition for some time but thankfully, it wasn’t subject to online speculation. There are a few guidelines on health matters which are worth observing:

Health is a private matter and should not be discussed online unless and until the person or family decide otherwise.

While we feel close to our heroes and will naturally want to offer support at a time of need, serious illness is the most private of matters, it is wholly inappropriate for a former footballer to hear his condition is a matter of public knowledge.

A bereavement should only be ‘revealed’ online by someone acting on the explicit instructions of the family. The unofficial release of this type of news is a very regretful manifestation of the internet age.

In recent years, we have seen many occasions of older celebrities’ deaths being incorrectly reported, then retweeted and retold thousands of times before it is denied. For an ill person and their family this can be a horrific experience.

The world can do without our condolences for a couple of hours until the family concerned have been able to contact all members.

These guidelines are scrupulously followed by the mainstream media in Scotland, who will hear of a footballer’s bereavement but hold the news – and prepare their reaction – until the family are ready.

For former-Celtic players, the club will usually be in touch with the family and release the news at the appropriate time. If you want to express your condolences, prepare your thoughts but hold until an official announcement.

I hope she makes a full recovery.

One of my neighbours had the same operation over 2 years ago, and it took him about 18 months to feel the benefit of his operation.

Belfast Celt, he will be out until late March/ early April.

He was back in training after his injury last December then hurt the same ankle again, which required surgery.

Hopefully GMS will shine tonight. With injuries to James and Paddy he might get a few chances to put down a marker but he needs to show something if he is to have a future with us beyond this season, imho of course.

The bhoy’s got talent in abundance but i’m stil unsure as to his self-belief.He comes across as too ‘nice’ and lacking that ruthlessness required to make it to the top.Hope he proves me wrong, though, but he has to grab his chance.

Great news. I’m sure the home surroundings will help with your wife’s recovery. Still a long way to go as you say. Thoughts and prayers with you all.

I agree with you on the NHS and it’s staff. Given the pressures they work under from govt. under funding and the hours and stress they work and deal with respectively it’s any wonder why the bother caring. But they do and they deserve all the praise going for their hard work.

Agree Re: GMS opportunity knocks for the lad he won’t get a better chance to prove himself. I had high hopes for him, but as you say he needs to get a bit more ruthless bit like these guys, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IUbn5ss8j9c

Hello again all you young rebels.

All of a sudden were into autumn here in Oz but you wouldn’t

think it as the weather seems to be getting hotter, 32 degs

tonight at our young bhoys soccer training and they were downing

gallons of water like us old timers do the Guinness.

The club decided to move our two main Celtic bhoys up into the

under 15’s from 13’s because off their ability and their size but

they’re not happy as their other Celtic pals and our African protege

remain as they are still only twelve and small, it’s a big jump for our

bhoys as some of these under 15’s would give big Bobo a hard time

but our bhoys will handle it and it’s good preparation for their time

at the Celtic academy at easter.

It’s also a busy few weeks ahead for our CSC and Paddymacoz and

his committee are working hard getting everything in place for

various upcoming functions including our St Patricks day Sunday

19 th, the usual city counsel jobsworths have told us our huge banner

which covers the front of our club hotel wont be allowed again this

year for safety reasons as they always do, but our ghirls dont seem to

have much respect for officialdom, it will be up, anyway i’d like to see

them trying to stop it that would be fun.

Still looking to help our Belfast pal and his partner get tickets for the

stickies game on their last visit home so please let me know if anybody

    can help.

    H.H Mick
