Emilio back on form ahead of Camp Nou

693

Over the summer I could frequently be heard muttering, “We need a left back”.  Despite returning from injury at the turn of the year, Emilio Izaguirre was unable to command a regular starting place in the team.  His occasions starts provided evidence why.  With Charlie Mulgrew the most authoritative central defender in the squad the left back slot looked like our most vulnerable position.

Emilio’s early form this season was no better, especially in the Champions League qualifiers, but recent weeks has seen the player return to his very best.  His confidence seems to have returned as he is taking opponents on with purpose which had been missing for over a year.

On this form, we can look forward to seeing him test himself at the Camp Nou.

The chances of me making a boxing day game are usually zero since I’m completely pashed out my face at Christmas…..however a 7:30 kick-off I’ll be legal to drive by then.

Ogilvie mentioned the words ‘major crime’, freudian slip me thinks, knows the shit is about to hit the fan? I agree with setting free the bears,he doesnt sound guilty to be honest, unless he is at fear induced delusional stage

  5. Called SSB on Saturday to ask G Daziel why he said last year it was a results driven business and NL isn’t getting the results so he’s sorry he has to go yet on Saturday its not McCoist’s fault it’s the teams.

Surprise surprise they didn’t put me on hmmm.

  6. After he tells Tommy that he can’t say any more, RCO comes out with this: “I appreciate that because of my role in the club and at the SFA, naturally I get sucked into things. And people just automatically assume I’ve been involved in everything. Fine. Let that be the case. But let the facts come out from the commission and then we’ll see.

“I’ll let the commission decide what involvement, if any, I had. The commission can decide that. The club was owned by David Murray. We all had our roles to play in different facets of the club. I was a director. Of course I signed cheques. But that doesn’t mean you [he means ‘I’] had committed a major crime.

“I only became president of the SFA a year ago in the summer. I don’t see everything that goes through. Nobody sees everything that goes through a business. That’s just preposterous.

“Everyone is assuming that because something wasn’t, if indeed it wasn’t, in a contract then the registrations aren’t legal. Where does that come from? I can’t discuss specific dates here, but there are also different rules that have come in at different times in this whole process. The SPL rules now are different from four, five, maybe six years ago. It comes down to individual regulations in different countries. Maybe for cross-border, for the international tournaments [Tommy pressed him on the Fifa regulations and the Fifa sanctions], but not necessarily for all league competitions.”

Agreed matey I’ve listened once this year and it was Saturday because i wanted to pull him up because it was me who called him last year when he slated Neil.

  10. Campbell Ogilvie suggested to Tommy that the rules changed in the course of the period under scrutiny, implying that even if things became contrary to regulations later, they may have been legit when Rangers put them in place.

This is a specific reference to having to declare all of the money a player earns from football on his registration papers. Auldheid and others will know instantly if Campbell’s defence has any validity.

It seems clear to me that if the beaks have found there to be a case to answer, prima facie, that a defence of [paraphrasing], ‘What we did may not have been against the rules at the time we did it’ would have been one of the first things considered … and kicked out.

As Tommy says at the end, thanks for your time Mr Ogilvie.

Imagine the look on Daryl Broadfoot and Stewart Regan’s coupons when they listen to this. Ogilvie says about 20 times that he can’t say any more, and then he just keeps talking.

    Hello? Media training.

Tommy has done what no MSM representative has done for ages, and what barely one or two of them even appear to have attempted during the whole shebang.

The John Le Carre character from “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy” and other books. He’s the guy trained to tell the single agents and double agents apart.

In real life, no such character exists as MI5 and MI6 were rife with minor royalty figures who were spying for the Reds for years.

In response to The Exiled Tim’s question, you may well be correct.

The only other possible reason that I can think of as to why RCO would tell Tommy as much as he did is that he is tired of hiding and has had enough and wants to come clean.

I heard Tommy talking to David Taylor and agree that Taylor sounded relaxed and polished. I really don’t think Ogilvie did. I though he sounded quite flustered, with lots of nervous wee under-the-breath laughs. Maybe he talked to Tommy because he can’t keep it all quiet any more.
