Emilio back on form ahead of Camp Nou

693

Over the summer I could frequently be heard muttering, “We need a left back”.  Despite returning from injury at the turn of the year, Emilio Izaguirre was unable to command a regular starting place in the team.  His occasions starts provided evidence why.  With Charlie Mulgrew the most authoritative central defender in the squad the left back slot looked like our most vulnerable position.

Emilio’s early form this season was no better, especially in the Champions League qualifiers, but recent weeks has seen the player return to his very best.  His confidence seems to have returned as he is taking opponents on with purpose which had been missing for over a year.

On this form, we can look forward to seeing him test himself at the Camp Nou.

Ole Johnny Clash- I had been about to invite you on a tour of Tuscan treasures but I think I’ll invite Owen Coyle instead.

He may need cheering up, he has the free time and he seems to be carrying less of an ole jinx in his baggage.

    Maybes some other time.

Probably you ya muppet, really embarassed yourself last week with some of your comments about Aiden McGeady, looked very much to me like the ‘bitter Tartan Army footsoldier’ in you just couldn’t help it- which is sad, in that it was againt one of our own, and equally stupid, given that Aiden gave his all for us and yes he’s not Messi but if every graduate from our youth academy fetched us half the fee he did we’d be rolling in it.

I acknowledged Aiden’s legacy in terms of money he brought to club.

I didn’t think he was a team player back in the day – I am fairly certain Lenny saw him as a disruptive influence

    And

I rate him as an outstanding individual player his talent is there for all to see – but he needs to grow into a team player and learn the value of humility

I have no issues with him choosing to play for ROI – my reference was intended to equate to those who feel Kris Commons is not entitled to play for Scotland

I support Scotland – many Celtic fans do – you don’t – that’s fine by me

    re this

But don’t forget: he couldn’t be expected to see everything that went through. That would

    be preposterous.

his responsibility was to have systems, processes and checks in place more than it was to have hands on approval and involvement in everything. The man running ExxonMobil for example relies on an organisation and governance process for a global operation but he is still responsible for what those who he delegates to actually do.

Yes you acknowledged some of Aidens good points but there were a few real bitter comments in there which there was no need for as others pointed out-its like there were two little voices in your head both getting a say and you didn’t know which one to go with!

Nothing to do with supporting Scotland or not, simply showing a bit more respect for a player who came through our youth system from a young age and was a massive success for club on many levels, and who continues to speak of us in glowing terms, incidentally.

The fact he moved to Russia away from family and friends and has stuck it out there, learning the language and becoming a father in the process, suggests his character may not be as tainted as you like to suggest.

Thanks. I wasn’t being serious. Worryingly, I’m pretty sure Campbell was.

Why didn’t the Brechin City officials in the SFA probe into their incorrect fielding of players in a Scottish Cup replay just say they couldn’t be expected to see every bit of paperwork that went through their club, as that would be preposterous?

Wee story from a bar in Pozzallo ——-.

Having a wee espresso , reading today’s Fitba Pink , my peace and quiet was disturbed by the very loud arrival of 4 Americans . 2 couples , grossly overweight, very badly dressed for doing 18 holes somewhere .

One of the males bellows to the waitress ——” 2 short blacks and 2 long tall skinnys ” Waitress doesn’t speak English , waitress doesn’t understand , so the American does it again but louder . That doesn’t work so he does again even louder ..

I decide that I have to help the waitress out . I speak to the Americans , explain what they can get [ ristretto / espresso / cappucino etc ] They decide . I tell the waitress . One of the Americans tells me ” You speak real good English -boy ” [ I am 62 ] and slips me a 10 euro tip — I took it -I kept it.————–

I return to my seat , I get back to the Fitba Pink – then – I hear a loud female voice declaring ———-” oh my God —– Honey —– there’s 2 Islamics ” . I look up — it is 2 Maghrebi women . Cue one of the American males saying _- ” Let’s go – those A–Rab people hate us ” .– They leave .

Cue one of the Maghrebi women saying to me —-” What was that about ?”

” Just some Americans – terrified by you ”

She laughed and said —–” Good !”.

My own experience of cultural ignorance on the part of our American cousins was when I was in Sicily 12 years ago. I love when people say that, usually means they’re stuck for an answer.

Just to reiterate, this has nothing to do with me or anyone else supporting Scotland or not as suggested by yourself earlier, and everything to do with you keeping your bitterness in check because you DO support Scotland and don’t like the fact Aiden chose not to.

  26. Heading back to sunny D&G via Scotrail late last night, overheard a young man (20+) on his mobile very excited about his new job. Only he was told he is not employed and if he was asked he was to say he was just a representative of this company “C*****a” which sends people round houses for leads for installing extra insulation.

He had left home at 8am and was heading back after 10pm, no expenses were paid and the most he could earn in a day was £60 if he managed three leads. He had £1.50 in his pocket. He also said they were encouraged to continue to sign on. This boy wanted to work and to contribute and did not realise what was happening. So sad for him.
