Emilio back on form ahead of Camp Nou

693

Over the summer I could frequently be heard muttering, “We need a left back”.  Despite returning from injury at the turn of the year, Emilio Izaguirre was unable to command a regular starting place in the team.  His occasions starts provided evidence why.  With Charlie Mulgrew the most authoritative central defender in the squad the left back slot looked like our most vulnerable position.

Emilio’s early form this season was no better, especially in the Champions League qualifiers, but recent weeks has seen the player return to his very best.  His confidence seems to have returned as he is taking opponents on with purpose which had been missing for over a year.

On this form, we can look forward to seeing him test himself at the Camp Nou.

  1. As with everything the rankers fiasco will go the way of the poet’s words:

“That’s the way the world ends

Not with a bang, but a whimper.”

A sad echo of bloated triumph echoing down a windswept and dimlyl lit alley on a winter’s night. Barely noticed; quickly forgotten as they are erased from the annals of history. Just like those genetic blind paths nature takes and discards when its efficacy is proved corrupt and useless.

The story of the huns. Corrupt, ignominious, terminated, forgotten. The vestigial organ of football, the appendix of the game, removed as it explodes into peritonitis infecting everything around it. Better it be excised…..with a whimper.

Over the years there have been regiems who have died, they have gone from absolute power to nothing.

I hope and pray the huns go the same way…..but where most of these powers have dissapeared from, there has been a revolution waitin to happen, where the underlying treand has been the people want to revolt, not going to happen in scotland I’m afraid, the majority don’t want it, the silent majority don’t want the fight.

I pray I am wrong mi amigo.

I have given him a lead, if he is anything like the investigative jurno he thinks he is, and I know he is, never doubted it btw, he could have a scoop if he or his minions has a wee look.

    Never happened.

Is this more luj influence protecting some of their favourite sons in their quest to keep us down and angry while exalting their blue brethern in their quest to maintain Scotia as an epicentre of bogus brogue wearing bigotry masquerading as establishment foundations and principles?

Bring on the end of all this.

  8. Good morning all and I trust, from the complete absence of the night shift, that you have all slept well! A nice dry but very cold morning here in EK. Windscreen will need a-scrapin’ so leave extra time.

  14. BBC5 live, are at the new English Fa football centre, they ask a question to the top man about other clubs, nations using the place, it’s already been done his reply. 2 Celtic development teams have already been down and used it.

It’s just small things like this that reforces my thoughts that we are in safe hands.

  15. Son of Gabriel on

Guardian Website has Eduardo at Emirates as the front pic in stopping diving article.

Its definitely one I still hold a grudge about.

It has a question for me to pose to CQN though.

WHAT, fellow CQN’ers, is the either the worst dive you remember seeing or the dive which still gets you most angry? Be it against the hoops, a cheating orc, or one that burst a pretty sizeable coupon does not matter, I want to hear about it.

I’m dreading someone saying 1 dive that was all 3.

    Which Dive???????????

    Which Dive???????????

Has to be Boyd’s at tannadice, the commentator could only laugh….instead of

    calling him a effin cheat.

  17. Mort,

Read your stats properly now and understood them. Remarkably different they certainly are. Incidentally I also note that for Celtic 1 red card is delivered for every 12 yellows and for the opposition it’s one for every 28.

I got some summary stats for last season, (so some cross over) I am ashamed to say I don’t remember the source, but it was from an official site of some description. These were for disciplinary records in total, 1 point for a yellow card 2 for a red. Celtic had the best, lowest, score overall. However looking at the ratios Celtic got a red for every 8 yellows but the range of all the others was from Rangers at 11.3 up to Dundee Utd at 47 with an average of 23.5.

Put differently a Celtic player was 3 times more likely to be sent off having received a yellow than any other team’s player across all the matches in the season.

I am sure if we gather the statistics properly we can prove bias certainly at an individual level and perhaps even systematically.

I am interested in source data generally. See my post late last night.

    Warszawa.

  18. Son of Gabriel.

Giggs, I thought he was better than that.

Boyds was laughable and he didn’t get the critism he deserved, but to everyone else, non-MSM or Orc it showed how much they could cheat, did he even get booked for that?
