Expect the manager and team to both be ready

It is time for our seasonal reminder: the first competitive fixture of a new season is statistically more akin to a lottery than a predictable event; in evidence, we have Lincoln Red Imps and Artmedia Bratislav, two teams who won as significant underdogs against Celtic.

Season 2019-20 starts tonight in a field in Bosnia, where local champions, Sarajevo, attempt to record what would be one of the most significant victories in their history.

Neil Lennon has some decisions to make, particularly in defence, where Christopher Jullien and Boli Mbombo could make their debuts, the latter in the absence of Kieran Tierney, who is still recovering from an operation in May.

The heat has relented in Sarajevo and across Europe from the heights recorded last week, so it will be more like a balmy Glasgow evening than an oven for the Celtic players.  Importantly, Neil Lennon has been through a few experiences like this.  He will remember the pain of defeats European competition at the hands of Utrecht (4-0) and Braga (3-0) in his first season in charge of Celtic.

Expect the manager and the team to both be ready this time.

  1. Do you think that we will play 3-5-2 tonight, considering that we don’t have a right back yet!

“iz” (plus genative case) refers to from within – e.g. when you are leaving the internal of a house

od (plus genative case) refers to from close to or from an area – e.g. when you are leaving an area

They are pretty interchangeable until they are used on a site such as Sarajevo Quick News, which is full of Sarajevan pedants.

    Ralston is the right back.

I suspect he will start alongside Ajer, Jozo & Hayes in a back four.

A lot of people have written off young Tony but we have so little to go on. He’s got a chance to stake his claim before another RB is signed.

Let’s not forget we were looking at signing Barry Douglas before we gave KT a chance!

  6. I agree with Timaloy29. Give Tony the chance to stake his claim for the right back position. If Toljan was rated at £5M, then Mr Ralston must be worth about double and we can’t afford to have our £10M players warming the bench ;-)

HRVATSKI JIM…people like Vedran Smailovic and Joan Baez are few and far between…

Ms Baez has certainly stayed true to her roots…

    Thanks for posting video…

HRVATSKI JIM…the images of the destruction of Sarajevo is sad…I spent some time in Gaza just after an Israeli bombardment. It was so tragic, especially to think of the children who lived through it…

I have resisted looking at the Resolution 12 website in depth for one or more reasons, ie: I’m not a shareholder, I also have little or no faith in anything the SFA say or do, nor do i think they answer effectively to EUFA. The only notable exception i can recall to this, is when the bunnet took them to task over the George Cadete registration that was manipulated by Fat Farry.

Having now taken the time to read it in full, I was very surprised at how in-depth it was and it is a very thorough piece of investigation, and i can but only applaud Auldheid and his compatriots for a splendid summary of the events that transpired. As expected upon reading through the RES12 website, I am left with the opinions that the shenanigans and underhand methods of both the RFC and the SFA are nothing short of scandalous.

To say i was a little surprised, would be a gross understatement, and in a way makes me feel saddened, almost ashamed, that we as supporters put our trust in these people, when in fact, those who perpetrated this blatant cheating who should be the ones who should hang their heads in shame.

Only once when viewing the entire piece did i elicit a short smile to myself when this snippet caught my eye.

“UEFA further offered, that no sanctions could now apply to Rangers FC because UEFA view The Rangers FC/Rangers International FC) and current SFA member, as a new club/company”

The rest is sadly what we have become accustomed to, gross misconduct and cheating.

It is indeed sad and, apart from the direct injuries and deaths, it cost Bosnia a lot of its best people, one of who came to Glasgow and tutored me in Croatian ( a thankless task). He had the good sense to pick a Celtic supporting girlfriend so, between the two of us his football fate was sealed.

Although not longstanding friends, we have become friendly with a Dutch doctor who married a very beautiful Bosnian girl when she was a translator for the UN when he was based in Bosnia. They moved to Budapest and now to Istria in Croatia which is where we know them from.

Joan Baez – certainly a woman of the highest principles in respect of human rights and one of the truly great folk singers.

I couple of weeks ago I got to see Kris Kristofferson (83) here in Glasgow and it is great to see people like him, Willies Nelson (86), Gordon Lightfoot (80), Joan (78) and others of their ilk still performing at the highest level. All of them sing about causes.

latest from Willie Nelson is about the 6m animals killed in WW1 – dont watch without copious supplies of tissues:

Has anyone checked to see if an Eastern European oligarch has bought the club and replaced the first team squad with players worth not less than £10m each?

HRVATSKI JIM…strong stuff! I am and always have been very fond of horses. At 4 years of age I was feeding apples and carrots to the horse that roamed in the field behind my gran’s house. Her name was Clare and she was very gentle with us kids. However, three years or so later she suddenly stopped coming and we never found out why. I’ve had a great fondness for them ever since. I take my grandson to riding school every Sunday. He’s not yet five. I did the same with his dad. I read the beautiful War Horse (another for the book club :-) ) and I’m so glad Willie Nelson recorded this fine tribute to such noble creatures. I had never heard it before. So thanks for that one!

  16. Big Wavy

Indeed, similar to last time he was in charge (and similar to Martin O’Neill) I assume Lenny plans to use size and dynamism to counter a lack of technical ability in Europe

And to avoid being bullied by the cloggers in the SPFL

Not a bad idea i suppose

For what it’s worth, Clare, in the aforementioned tale, was the horse and not my gran…lol

I went to see Joan Baez in Glasgow in the 60`s. She had even greater clarity live than she did on vinyl. The same night as Joan was performing, The Rolling Stones were also doing their stuff in Glasgow. Joan asked us , the audience, if we would mind if she sang through the proposed Interval but finished a wee bit earlier so that she could see the lst ten minutes or so of the ` Stones concert ! The audience gave its assent after a fantastic peformance .

I liked the look of Ralston when he first appeared on the scene. But he doesn’t look to have improved any and looks a bit top heavy.

  23. After deciding that Sevco`s Europa League Qualifier is more worthy of top story staus than is Celtic`s Champions League Qualifier, the BBC then goes on to say:

” Sarajevo have ambitions to make this first qualifying round tie as awkward as it appears on paper even if they are big underdogs.”

Question: If they are `big underdogs`,why would any `paper` make this seem an `awkward` tie? Hmm…
