Expensive lesson for football

669

The success rate of Celtic’s player recruitment strategy in recent years has been exceptional; pound-for–pound better than any period in our history.  Forster, Mulgrew, Lustig, Matthews, Izaguirre, Wilson, Ledley, Wanyama, Commons, Kayal and Hooper have arrived for limited outlay and have propelled the club into the latter stages of the Champions League.

By contrast, Mo Bangura failed to impress on any occasion tested.  At another time it would be easy to write him off but it seems unusual that the current system for scouting and assessing footballers has led to a striker who only yesterday recorded his first goal for the club.

In all honesty I suspect Mo will not get a chance to turn things around at Celtic, there are several strikers ahead of him in the squad and our scouts will forever be working on fresh recruits, but this doesn’t mean he is a bad player.  It’s more likely that his induction into Scottish life missed a crucial step.

Did you see the story and photograph about Michael Johnson yesterday?  The 24-year-old was paid-off by Manchester City near the end of his £40k per week contract.  He was unfortunate with injuries but there is a lesson for football to learn in his demise.

The day anyone, young or old, clever or stupid, signs a £10m contract life can become one long party.  ‘You don’t like my attitude/weight/blood test/friends?  I’m on a multi-million pound contract, deal with it.’ How can football deal with this issue?

For the record, there is absolutely no connection between Mo, whose attitude has been first class, and Michael Johnson’s demise.

Beale Cooper tells a very amusing story about that booking , during his after dinner speech .

Fergie had him wound up for 2 weeks building up to the game to nail Charlie.

Fergie , win at all costs.

Thanks folks for clearing that one up. Yep Fergie used every dirty trick in the book. I’ve always had a dislike of him from those days and the tactics he employed. Although he had a great team, some of tactics of winding up the opposition, especially Celtic and the old Rangers worked a treat for him. I have grown to respect his achievements in the game, but there will always be that part of me that looks at the bullying tactics he employed on both sides of the border both on and off the pitch.

It shows the power of the internet, and not moving with the times, unfortunately. Mrs and I are probably as much to blame as we do 90% of shopping online. Well she is disabled and very restricted in movement. In saying that, we like nothing better than a wee visit to the East Kilbride Plaza on very rare occasions.

Agree re Fergie- complex character whose teams have been hard to love despite their magnificence. Liked him when I met him though

So. I am going to start blogging a bit harder with this Rangers Story. I did say a few blogs back “What is there to blog about” and is it  worthwhile, well it is, but before I go and do what I love doing, one question, what exactly what died here? History we can all remember? I can remember them, and last time I looked, nothing has changed from last season, apart from them being in Division 3. Same fans, manager, 5 stars on the strip, same everything really

    He is still there!

I have been saying this since the start off 2012, nothing new here. But don’t ask me to dance about the street naked at a club winning a battle against £150M debt and coming through the other side an EXACT replica off what had died. So what did die? Please, someone tell me. The name? No still there, the badge? No, still there. The manager, nope, he is still there. Oh wait, the 5 stars above the badge, ah no, still there. What died here? I tell you what died? I know the History is gone, so why the picture below celebration 140 years the other week? Who allows this? Why are they allowed to be a replica of this club that died? Am I missing something? And same vile fans, singing their same vile songs

I know it isn’t nice to view, but the more things change, they more they stay the same

They are alive and breathing that is not what we wanted at the start? We carried a coffin, we said they would die! They did, but they never, they were replicated. Same EVERYTHING exists today. Just in another league. The SPL struggled and still are in terms of punishment, the SFA were to scared to act, this took months, so the SFL voted over a cup of tea and it was division 3, the SFL to be fair didn’t mess about.

Why is nobody stopping this show of History?

    5 Stars on the strip.

Still 5 stars on the strip!

So who is allowing them to pretend they are the same club? Who isn’t doing their job? What happened to the Crown office investigation? When will BDO act? Can they act? Things seem to be taking forever here. The rubbish we had thrown at us by the media makes a lot of sense not Jim Traynor is the voice of Rangers, the only thing that changed there is he in on the payroll now I guess. Where is Craig Whyte and his recordings? Who else has a claim to what here? Do ticketus still have a percentage of the gate money?

I know Rangers died, I know the history is gone, but look 3 pictures up, it doesn’t look like it. So blog I will. And blog hard to ask the simple question. Why? I also hear they are in heavy debt, some saying as much as £2M with this share issue not going as well is as being reported. A lot of IOU’s I am hearing are floating around

Also, something to look out for, Brian Kennedy (Sale Sharks) also has ties to another football club, Stockport County. I wonder what is being talked about there. I am not saying Rangers will take over Stockport, not for a second, but I hear talks have been done between Charles Green and  Brian Kennedy and Stockport County. You guess the rest, as I try and find out the truth. Something is happening here, and I am going to try and get to the bottom of this. Or at least try

Can’t argue with his record Jimbo and one man’s idea of cheating is another man’s view of bending or using the rules to their advantage. Guess that’s one of the reason’s why we have so many differing views about footie, so diverse at times.

Guess he would have some amazing “off the record” yarns to tell.

  12. Anyone with a good memory of the 70s? I seem to remember a game that Gordon Strachan scored in for Dundee at Celtic park. I’m sure we were winning 3-0 and think it ended 3-3.

Anyone confirm this? At that time we were being linked to buying him from Dundee.
