Extra week training in July has huge impact

2173

I was concerned about a trip to Estonia after hearing Hearts struggle in their home leg against Estonian opponents last week, so news that Gibraltar’s Lincoln Red Imps beat Flora Tallinn was welcome, although the concern was tempered as news arrived that Hearts were three goals up in the away leg.

The lesson here is that in July, one more week’s training has a huge impact on performance.

Brendan Rodgers will be happy with how training has progressed thus far, but it’s only when players put multiple 90 minutes under their belts that they are ready for competitive action. There’s not necessarily a great deal of work to do to overcome Red Imps (no offence intended), but qualifiers come thick and fast thereafter. Despite beating Slovenian champions Olimpija Ljubljana yesterday, I expect Celtic will be more motivated for Saturday’s game against Maribor.

It gets serious from now onwards.

Jumped onto CQN after the second set for any football news. Thought I had walked into a French n Saunders 2 Fat Blokes sketch with all the “cor yeah I’d give er one” and “wouldn’t touch er with yours” comments.

    —————–

Pretty embarrassing, admitting to watching French and Saunders ;O)

  5. We have always received advice from CQNrs on transfers.

Back in 2007 when we signed Scott Brown, there were many who said that we should have gone for Kevin Thompson instead.

Well, in this season just starting, Scott Brown could be playing in the CL and Kevin Thompson will be turning out for Tranent Juniors in the East Premier League

  10. Wikipedia:

The Ibrox disaster refers to two accidents, both at football games held at Ibrox Park (now Ibrox Stadium) in Glasgow, Scotland:

The 1902 Ibrox disaster was a partial stadium collapse that caused 25 deaths and 517 injuries

The 1971 Ibrox disaster was a crowd crush in a stairway, causing 66 deaths and over 200 injuries, at an Old Firm match

From what I have read on the johnjamssite it would appear King is playing with the safety and welfare of Rangers and Visiting fans.

However, even sitonfence hasn’t invoked the previous disasters.

This possibility in the face of Rangers negligence for over 9 years should be mentioned. Fans need to know that there is a significant risk to attending matches at Ibrox.

Im not in to tennis but well done all the same to Andy Murray. It is interesting that as yet there has been no real change in the Celtic midfield of course that may change if Joe Hanson is sold but last year in Europe our midfield were poor and if we dont change it it is likely to be poor in Europe again. The red Imps should not prove to be to much of a challenge but in later rounds it is a concern. H.H.

“Broonie might end up playing for the likes of Tranent if he feels like it”

The point is that Kevin Thompson, only 9 months older than Scott, is already there at that level. Broony can choose to play at a far superior level for much longer. Kevin Thomson does not have those choices.

  13. Don’t feel ashamed to join in the congratulations to Andy Murray, no doubt some eejits will say it was only because he avoided Djokovic. Well done lad.

Thompson was a very good player until-as has happened to others-his soul was taken by the dark side.

The Thompson we saw at Hibs would never have tried what he did against Samaras.

That he seriously injured himself to the extent that he was never the same player afterwards is just tough.

    Life’s a bite-ye-on-the-arse bitch at times.

I think the word at the time when we were after both Hibee’s was that John Park ( aye that John Park )

reckoned Kevin Thompson was overpriced in the double deal, and Celtic opted for Broonie alone.

    John Park was spot on.

Thomson couldn’t lace Broonys boots, even back then, plenty of half decent players have taken the money option (taxpayers money) and saw their career go down the toilet, I really liked David Robertson & Stephen Wright at Aberdeen then went to that mob and were gash, old or new klub, then Paul Ritchie at Hearts big Fran Sandaza, John Daly…….even poor Daniel Prodan, even Romanian internationals get jinxed by chasing the cash with that mob

JMccormick don’t you be cheering Ronaldo on too much tonight, I need wee Greasyman to pay for an expensive (but very good) weekend

I’ve taken to thinking in a Charlie Nic kinda way.

With Albania being at the Euros it took me back to my first European tie V Partizan Tirana.

Does anyone know if there is any footage of it anywhere?

I seem to remember there was a bit of a stooshie with Danny’s beard?! In the first leg which we lost ( 1 nil I think?)

Anyway, the crowd seemed enormous to me in the second leg.

It seemed really exotic to play a team u didn’t have the 1st clue about.

No idea what colours they wore.

Do remember Alan Sneddon scoring an early OG and worrying we were out.

If I remember correctly we won 4-1 and my hero Davie Provan was magic.

If anyone has a better memory than me I’d appreciate any recollections

Great stuff, as a wee 9yr old I was at that game, Davie Provan in a Celtic Jersey was also a favourite of mine growing up, now I have grown up it disappoints me he has never a good word to say about a club and fan base who idolised him…..don’t mind ex-players criticising when due but stuff that criticising for the sake of it which DP does regularly
