Facing systems in flux

312

Motherwell started the season as Scotland’s first laughingstock, losing home and away to Sligo Rovers (apologies for the unavoidable slight, Rovers).  Their fragility was soon resolved with wins at St Mirren and Aberdeen, and home to Livingston, in their opening four league fixtures.

Since that win over Livi nine weeks ago, results dipped.  Defeat at Kilmarnock, a home draw against Dundee United and a thrashing at home to Hearts last time out (although they comfortably disposed of Inverness in the League Cup during this spell), suggest a system very much in flux.  Oh, how we’ve been there.

Steven Hammell was confirmed as permanent manager in August.  He clearly has the backing of his players and brought a system that can bloody the nose of most teams in the league.  I suspect, however, that the same system’s fragilities are now well know.  Hearts soaked up waves of attacking play at Fir Park, before delivering three sucker punches without reply.

Ange Postecoglou will be desperate to get this game underway to put the debacle of Paisley behind him.  The trip to Germany will also be on his mind, though I don’t expect anyone to be rested tomorrow.  Ideally, we will secure the points early on and allow the manager to rest his captain and a few others.  Some of the early brilliance we have seen in games from Celtic this season should be enough.

re the Camlachie Cobbles,i`m the “aul yin”with the EveningTimes quote, and it backed up my own experience with those who resided in Yate Street, namely my Grannie and Granda,I met with the guy who set out to rubbish that view ,and that was his intention as he did write his version of Old Parkhead from a “Protestant Ascendency” standpoint, but his examples of alternatives were contradictory to say the least,it will always be remembered as Jimmy Quinns Hattrick cobbles by the locals i knew.

  4. As an aside to the Cobbles story Bridgeton Waverley had their ground in Barrowfield, but had to move due to CPO for housing, they moved to New Barrowfield between Westhorn park and Belvidere Hospital, they then lost the ground to another CPO which wasnt actioned and Celtic FC took possession and the rest as they say is History

  10. The Cobbles.

a right of passage in our family.

From the 50s to the 2000s anyone getting taken to their first game had to be shown the cobbles,

A tradition handed down, to show the weans the cobbles. that slight slope from the gallowgate onto yate street, the railway embankment still there, the chip shop in the arches. There were areas in the port and the gibby that were just terrible poverty stricken, that part of barrowfield though, even to me as a younster, grim, bleak just doent cover it.

when the shammy bus parked on camlachie street, that wee side road running up to terry tattoos, several skirmiches over the tears, wild place.

  11. there is a film or documentary about glasgow somewhere that i cant recall the name, that has a little cameo of yale street and barrowfield in the background, it has me drawing breath everytime i see it, memories come flooding back, i need to find it again.

a search out before heading out to …………..

Only looking back in after being out with family for a wee coffee. I will think about that for a while (promise not to Google) and then make a guess. Off to the pool and let it go through my brain (that won’t take long as I belong to the dim and dimmer CSC).

Hoping for a good win today.

The original photo was sent to me by the Great Grandson of a player whose in that photo of 6, his name is Johnny (Grainger) Granger and is in this line-up. I am looking for other images of his GG in Celtic line-ups to send to the family.

  20. Rage getting in the way for some.Hearts, much better football team, but Colak the difference.Wee Cammy getting sent off has ruined any chance Hearts had, which,if they had got the next goal ,maybe.

    Switching to EPL game now.

Colan does look a bit tasty.Still, you have to get one right.

  21. Lol. The last game I was at ( the huns ) I lost my jacket. No chance of that today.

    Quack, quack.

  22. HH all from a lovely autumn Louisville morning.

All those off to ‘Parkers’ today remember to wear your waxed Barbour jacket in case it rains and maybe adorned with a Burberry scarf.

I’ll be enjoying it from my attic/fitba room.
