Failure elsewhere cannot disguise abject Celtic challenge

1009

As the darkest clouds descend over Ibrox with news that medals in their trophy room have been poinded by sheriff officers, sentiment in our half of the city is no brighter.  Celtic’s best chance to win the league this season lies not in outpointing everyone else, or seeing their principle rivals lose 10 points, it is in the complete obliteration of Rangers, allowing us to take our chances with Motherwell, who can open up a six point gap between second and third against Celtic on Sunday.

Whatever the following weeks bring for Rangers, if Celtic winning the league is a consequence, we cannot allow the title to disguise the abject failure to be competitive so far this season.

Thanks for coming back to me

My own view is we lost the league last year because we were not good enough.

As big jock always said play so that the refs dont matter.

I can see Rennes far enough i would play the under 19s.

Fir park is our turning point or tipping point depending on what happens.

Win and we can start to overhaul der hun with motherhuns behind us and left for dead.

    Lose and its carnage.

To keep on the gladwell tone we need some outliers commons would do for me.

  7. The thing about the huns tax avoidance is that they done it a a time when they could probably have afforded to pay the tax. This gives you an insight into the mindset of them. They really do believe that the rules and the laws of the land dont include them. Is it any wonder the hordes are always revolting when they see the way the so called leaders of their club flout the rules. They think the are untouchable. Fair enough I wouldnt touch them with somebody elses bargepole

Brilliant from yesterday evening and thanks!

I loved NL as a player and was proud that he called himself a Celtic supporter.

At the time of his appointment, I didn’t want him to manage my club because of his lack of experience.

I changed my mind as a consequence of the way the team played last year (despite our capitulation at Inverness which lost us the league) and, just as importantly, because of the reactions of the bigoted majority of people in this sad little country to a ginger haired, catholic man from norn iron who happened to strike it lucky at an early stage in his managerial career by being invited to manage his favourite team.

Like many of you, I waited with baited breath as NL announced his intention to stay in the job following the final match at CP last year partly because I felt he was doing a good job but also because I didnt want him to give in to the majority of bigots in this…and, after what he had endured, I admired his bravery and, yes Paul, stoicism, and was desperate for him to overcome the obstacles and bigotry he was constantly faced with in this sad….

I, like many of you, had become NL!

Now, we are not playing well and there are valid questions being asked about our manager’s ability to do the job.

However, dont you think, taking into account our almost unanimous support for him in his trials from last year, that the least we owe this man is to give him until the end of the season to turn this around?

    For these reasons:

    as a recognised inexperienced manager (we knew he was such last year and supported him then), he should be given the opportunity to learn from his mistakes and sort the team out;

we, as a club, owe a debt to NL on behalf of scottish society, by his refusal last year not to give in to the bigoted majority of..

we are not supposed to behave like huns who react, vilify and hate at any opportunity (hang your heads in shame the sammy and big dan doom-mongers)

we, as celtic supporters. are supposed, instead, to act with real dignity (not pretend) and respond to crises within our club with reasoning, understanding and reflection

we, as celtic supporters, are recognised and self-proclaimed as the best supporters in the world. I was in Seville. I burst with pride when I think about how we, as as a support, conducted ourselves over there and, by contrast, shudder at the rape and pillage of Manchester.

Time we started showing that we are decent people as well as supporters (?).

Some of the stuff I have been reading about our manager lends little support to our imagined view of ourselves and I am ashamed to associate with people who will denigrate our manager without contextualising his unique situation and considering this before joining the witch hunt!

    I remain Neil Lennon!

Oh and BTW, I am not a hun!

  9. No worries Philvis – I’d love to sit here and realistically think O’Neill would return to get us back on our feet, but no chance of it ever happening!

What’s really frustrating is that we don’t have anyone we can turn to – when they were at thier lowest ebb, Murray knew that he could get Walter to return and build a platform to move on, who could we turn to????

Strachan was also manager: he did not get support from the fans (when he should have)

The manager is there to get the most out of the players. His players, his tactics, his results.

You cannot hide from the fact that Neil has a shocking record this season.
