Fans expensive travel awaits fixtures

252

Having strained a hamstring against St Johnstone on Saturday, it is not credible to expect Giorgos Giakoumakis to play any part in Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final. We have surely learned from recent experiences that strained hamstrings require proper rest, to prevent a more serious injury.

Kyogo’s return to action was a joy but too brief for him to be considered as starter anytime soon. He will be fit to torment defenders in small doses only for a while. That leaves us without our MVP in recent months and our MVP from the first half of the season in a hugely important cup tie.

There are reasons not to be too concerned. Celtic have scored nine from eight different players since the last goal they conceded, Matt O’Riley is the only one to have broken the sequence by contributing more than once. This team contribute goals from all over the park.  Maybe Hampden will see Greg Taylor get in on the act!

The post-split fixtures are likely to see us go to Ross County and Dundee United, with Newco, Hearts and Motherwell at home. Hopefully the game at County’s tiny Dingwall stadium is not material to the title race.  The SPFL have known the scenario for two days now, so let’s hope the fixtures come out this afternoon.  When you live in a Scottish bubble it is easy to forget many people have difficult and expensive travel arrangements to book just to see their team play football.  At the very least they deserve as much notice as possible.

  1. Hello Mister Connolly, its me Padraig.

Aye, so I have been having a wee think to myself, and I have come to a conclusion that we need to postpone the uprising. What with it being Easter Sunday an all that.

and while we are at it, can we stop our boys waving those tri-colours, it just comes across as puerile and childish and a damn nuisance to the invaders.

    Ok, see you soon.

  2. The announcement of the split fixtures has me nervous again. We’re so close now to the main prize. If Kyogo or GG aren’t fit for Sunday then rest them. The league is too important and that Scottish Cup win in 2005 was a poor consolation for having lost the league the week before.

  4. I, too, feel that the “going to war” nonsense is particularly inapt and inept given that it is Easter Sunday and there is a dreadful war taking place at this very moment in Europe.

Advocating going to war on Easter Sunday at the end of Holy Week in support of a Football Club whose primary founder was a Marist Brother and a Teacher, via a press release, may appeal to your sensibilities Jimmy but it does not appeal to mine. Feel free to fall in line.

    …………….

just in case it has escaped your notice, Celtic FC and/or the Celtic support ( including the Green Brigade) did NOT have ANY say on the ” TIMING” of this Scottish Cup semi final.

It just so happens that this Match/Fight/Battle/WAR is due to take place on Easter Sunday…The end of ” Holy Week “.

I couldnt give a TOSS on what day or week we have to face the Huns…I would hope that the Celtic players are ” UP for it at ANY Day or Week” also, in ” Playing Fitba Terms” , but ALSO The FIGHT…The BATTLE…The WAR that lies ahead ?

For those on here, who are NOT Happy at the thought of seeing the Celtic support waving Thousands of Irish Tri Colours this Sunday, why dont you send in a strong letter of complaint to the Celtic Board, requesting that the Irish Tri Colour be removed from the roof of Celtic Park ASAP….?

The SFA tried that once before…it didnt work !

For those on here who are going to be most UNHAPPY if they see thousands of Irish tri Colours being displayed this Sunday, there is a very simple solution…..DO NOT GO to the Match….DO NOT Watch TV….DO NOT Switch on your computers etc….just go back to your ” FLOWER ARRANGING” !

  6. Looking at the Old Firm blogs, seems the scum are gearing up for a full on child abuse fest.Be warned.

And we will still pollute Celtic Park on the 1st of May with their presence.

  7. For those that are UNHAPPY at the thought of seeing thousands of Irish Tri Colour Flags on display at Hampdump this Easter Sunday …why dont you just give your Match ticket to someone else ?

God forbid that you should feel ” Affronted” at such a scene.

I will take as many as I can get my hands on.

Interesting from the GB. Maybe they are looking to re-locate to Ireland to get involved in the neutrality/NATO debate that we are not really having. Hope they have work visas what with them not being Irish and that

    _______________________________________________________________________________________

I don’t know who within the Green Brigade are Irish, some may be citizens, others maybe entitled to citizenship due to their ancestry. Either way as they live in Britain they benefit from the common travel/work area, which is not affected by Britain leaving the EU. They don’t need visa, they can live and work in Ireland as can Irish people in Great Britain.

  9. The GB are doing a fantastic job.Going to war,too bloody right we are.Every time we play them its a war.The sight of our end covered in Tricolours on Easter Sunday, will be a thing of beauty.

Same ones probably complaining about the GB display at Celtic Park, when we terrified them before the game started.

Knitting is a nice pastime,so I am told.

  10. Have read that Neely was that English reptile Bennells right hand man in Scotland.Organizing cross border trafficking of young players.

Anyway, all their animals were employed by the “Old Club”,so take your complaints to the Liquidators.Nothing to do with the “New Club”

  11. Some ghuys look for offence in everything.

Nobody is advocating war or violence. Going & supporting our Club in a Football match has absolutely nothing to do with the horrible war in Ukraine or indeed conflicts anywhere else in the World.

In life and in Football we constantly use metaphors to express our feelings , how many times have we said about a match, it will be a right battle, or we need to get stuck in etc etc.

We don’t mean it literally , it’s just a form of expression.

Next Sunday there will be a Football match in Hampden, there will be Tri Colours amongst some of the Celtic Support, Union Jacks amongst the Hun support, I have no doubt there will be a lot of other different Flags as well including Japanese.

The Flags, the Colours, the singing will all add to the atmosphere,

For close on 2 hours we will all forget about our troubles in life reality will be suspended and at the end we will celebrate our be downcast.

Then our thoughts will turn to Ross County & the circus moves on,

That is what you sign up for when you invest your emotions in a Football Club,

So in conclusion, there will be no guns, no weapons of mass destruction, all I know is there’s going to be a show & that Glasgow Celtic will be there,

  12. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Anyone heard talk of another safe standing area diagonally across from the GB ?

  13. I have absolutely no problem with the Green Brigade supporting Celtic. When they are in full voice singing Celtic songs, I am fully supportive. I have no problem with anyone in Celtic Park raising the Irish flag – I did so myself in my younger days and have worn a tricolour pin for more years than I care to remember. Both sets of my grandparents were Irish, so why shouldn’t I?

Where I do draw the line is when the GB use Celtic & Celtic Park as a platform for their various agendas. This latest ‘war’ tripe is ridiculous. It is not what anyone employed at Celtic Park would want, not the board, not the management & backroom staff, not the players, nor indeed the overwhelming majority of supporters. So who does want it? Only the GB and their dribble of ‘camp followers’. A more selfish, self-centered & self-serving lot would be hard to find.

  14. Tom McLaughlin on

I have been accused of sectarianism in Scotland for taking an Irish flag to Celtic games. To the people on CQN objecting to the idea of thousands of Irish flags at Hampden on Sunday, I’ll ask you the same question I asked my earlier accusers.

If Celtic had been founded by Italians, would you object or take offence in Celtic supporters waving Italian tricolours at Celtic games?

I have an Irish flag on the wall of my home/office. I will be taking it to Hampden on Sunday and will wave it with pride.

As for it being Easter Sunday, surely the one flag that deserves to be raised on that day is the Irish tricolour.

    If you know your history.

  15. The symbolism and a good knowledge of Irish history from a group of like minded Celtic supporters sure gets under the skin of some.

Reading the Old Firm blogs, its job done.

  16. I am with Big Jimmy on the going to war thingy.

Also if anyone has a spare ticket my grandson has his tri colour at the ready.

SAINT STIVS, having read your comment I popped into Wallow Wallow for a quick look – you’re not wrong, you know. Seething doesn’t cover it. Bless.

  18. I think the GB agenda is to support the team on Sunday unless anyone else knows an agenda???

  19. “It is not what anyone at Parkhead would want ”

Tam please don’t ever forward your opinion as Celtics.

    Wrong as usual .

    Utter crap

  20. A few weekends ago, a group of like minded old firm supporters decided to raise banners with the names of great celtic men alongside the names of convicted sex abusers.

  21. JHB,

You were wrong when you said we might not make the top 6.

You were wrong when you said we were playing for 2nd place,

You have half admitted you were once a normal high spirited young Celtic Supporter.

Not sure I believe you but if you were, let the young Brigade make their own mistakes, who knows they might grow up to be boring old farts like yourself.

Anyone heard talk of another safe standing area diagonally across from the GB ?

    ——————

I sit in that area, and our SB renewals are avaialble already the same as for everyone else.

I would have thought if plans were afoot to do it there would have been some sort of consultation with the fans already there.

    Then again maybe not.

On consideration beyond enhancing the atmosphere, would the plc have the appetite to have another corner of standers grouping together and needing the special attentions of polis and multiple stewards.

    Maybe not.

However as a means of added control they could get the Jungle bhoys out of the top north west corner, the polish bhoys out of the jock stein upper, and maybe even allow for the new group that has appeared in the south east corner (very colourful on saturday past). so maybies aye.

Anyways they would be better concentrating on stopping people taking illegal flags to our games, removie the tricoulors and rising suns of donegals.

or am i conflating the tissues

  25. as a ps, I stand in the tunnels at the games all the time now, i dont go to my seat very often, I would welcome the chance to be in a new standing section,

  26. Weebobbycollins on

I wonder how he knows what the ‘overwhelming majority of supporters’ would want?

I’ll tell you what the overwhelming majority of supporters want; they want to skelp the huns on Sunday and pap them out the cup.

What like Gp?,the Celtic fan that had his throat cut by huns coming home from a game?

What type of unprovoked violence will the blame be laid at Celtic fans for?

Come on Gp,Rancid hunnery does not need an excuse,it’s already entitled.

Off to Celtic Park tonight for the Celtic B v Old Firm B match.

Looking forward to a relaxed and tension-free occasion with a decent turnout and a few goals.

    Hail Hail

I hope that you get that Match Ticket mate.

Sadly, the days of when I could have helped out are long gone. in the auld days, my DA could get Tickets for just about anywhere for me etc.

At the same time, I also had mates back then who could source out Tickets.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you mate.

  30. As for those saying there will be no war at Hampden on Sunday, there is truth in that. There is also truth in the very likelihood of violence, quite possibly serious violence. Anything that lends itself to that occurring is simply wrong, imo.

  31. Greenpinata,

There is no doubt there are mindless thugs out there with a propensity for violence.

Most of the violence takes place well away from the game , Guys coming out of Pubs tanked up with drink & drugs,

These guys need no excuse to attack rival Supporters, these thugs are a blight on Society & Football,

I have little doubt that regretfully there will be violence somewhere in Glasgow after the game just as there was after the last game.

That has nothing to do with anything the Green Brigade or anybody else might say or do,

It has been going on for years & years.
