Fastest, fittest, Celtic, what Ashley has left

669

A little over two months ago Celtic lost at Tannadice and dropped two points at home to Ross County.  After our disastrous August, and home defeat to Hamilton in October, this December blow put Celtic on the canvas one more time.  I was getting calls from Norway “Are you still backing Ronny?” The transformation since has been enormous.

For much of the first half yesterday Celtic were disjointed, not untypical of a team returning from a European disappointment, but despite this, the support knew – actually knew – not to be too concerned.  Things would come together, and even if they didn’t yesterday, they would next time out, and for the rest of the season.

We have purpose and direction.  The first goal arrived courtesy of Aberdeen’s adherence to the oft-discredited man-for-man marking system, but thereafter, the goals, in fact, pretty much all attacks, came courtesy of the fastest, fittest, Celtic team you have ever seen.

Who do you want standing behind an opponent? One of the wealthiest people in the land, or a “glib and shameless liar”? I’d rather the latter, thank you.

As well as being a tax convict, Dave King sat on the Rangers board for a decade as it spiraled towards liquidation. He sat on the board which failed to make provisions for the HMRC tax case – and it was this specific failure, not the tax case, which led to the club being sold to a liquidation specialist for £1.

He campaigned relentlessly against newco, oft repeating his vision of ‘competing with Celtic’, while many of us considered the club should prioritise paying its bills and living within its means.

It seems certain that at some point between now and Friday he will be in de facto control, although his eligibility as a director appears doomed, should rules be applied.

Some will celebrate whenever Mike Ashley’s men depart the scene, but this is in keeping with their many earlier celebrations. Here’s a prediction for you: go back and read what the LibDems said after their people got into cabinet. ‘Once we saw what was under the bonnet, it became clear we couldn’t do what we wanted to do’. I reckon you’re going to hear a version of that in the months to come. Even today, Dave King has no idea what Mike Ashley has left him. All we really know is that the representatives of one very wealthy man are about to leave the scene.

Thanks to everyone who has bought a ticket to the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 13th March. If you would like details, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

re: Jackie Mcnamara … always liked him as a player …seemed like a regular guy who got to live the dream ….

and thought he would succeed as a manager. In fact, I thought that DU would be the runner up this year. But, so far, his teams have been a bit inconsistent ….along with Aberdeen, he has a much better squad at this disposal than most squads, but he doesn’t seem to be getting the results I expected …..

he has a way to go before I start to think of him as a possible future manager for the bhoys.

That rumour was circulating last night. Quickly denied by DU Chairman and Jackie.

In fact Jackie said he was looking forward to a cup final. Unlike my big Arab mate who is absolutely bricking it. :-)

  10. So, what’s happening with SEVCO? Has big Mike decided he’s got the place sewn up and it’s safe to hand over to Glib and Shameless and his not so merry men? He must have done some job to ensure it’s all water tight with a convicted tax criminal (would it be OK to refer to a man with 41 convictions as a criminal mastermind?) at the helm……

Looking forward to King Dave dipping in to his pocket to fund a title challenge. Although I think they could be up against it in a league with Falkirk and the two who come down from the SPL……….

  11. Bhoylo: I went over to Glasgow several years ago with some mates for a Celtic match. We stayed overnight and had plenty of time to kill on the Sunday before our flight home. We were passing by £pox and decided to have a look around. We approached the main door, had a look inside only to be stopped by a security guard. We told him we had heard about the club and the famous wooden staircase. He proudly pointed to same and explained that the pictures along the staircase were of famous ex-players. He named some of them and when he mentioned Andy Goram one of the die-hards among us quipped “is he up there twice?”. Needless to say, we were quickly shown the door.

  13. Ronny D…….

the turnaround is incredible. Successful Celtic managers have a little help in turnarounds.

WGS had injury force together the Hartley/ Robson midfield partnership that want a long way to winning the league.

I believe that Ronny has had a similar experience. When Charlie was injured and fell out of the team it forced an extended run for Nir Bitton and this has been the catalyst for our success. Combine this with 2 excellent signings and suddenly the team took shape.

The speed Ronny craves just happened. Nir’s ball retention and reading of the game gave the platform that we were missing.

We now need a couple of additions to complete the puzzle.

    1. A fit Lustig.

    2. A left back who can defend. Love Izzy but sometimes we need to defend too.

    3. Most importantly a Proper Centre Forward. Leigh works hard but is not the long term answer. I also don’t believe that John G is mobile enough.

    4. Hang on to the centre halves for another season.

I love the competition in midfield – Liam Henderson has a huge future with us.

I loved the way Broonie ran to Ronny and hugged him when we scored yesterday.

I love the way Ronny now gives instructions to the captain and not just to Stefan.

I loved the size and energy of the crowd yesterday.

Lastly I love Dave King and not Ashley being in charge over the city. A billionaire who owns the assets v a chancer – what’s not to love.

Lastly I love that I got a ticket for the cup final today.

  17. I forgot to mention

I loved Wee Jay yesterday. Never seen a goal of the month winner so excited getting presented with the award.

When the wee man was getting over excited it was hilarious to watch his Dad grab him by the hand and calm him down.

Well done Jay and your Dad and well done Hamilton FC.

Pity Sammy wasn’t there to do the presentation of the Goal of the Month.

My Arab mate thinks we will score FIFTEEN against his team over the three games! He is a fair reporter of events and says a gloom has descended over the place of late. Pity. Survival of the fittest is not pretty.

I am not a Charlie hater – he has been good for us, but I think that Nir has a lot more in his locker. I think that the team is better without Charlie and Kris starting. I can’t believe I just wrote that as I am a huge KC fan but the pressing game with GMS, Armstrong and Stefan looks great to me.
