Feels like time for an inquest

626

It’s been so long since we lost a goal it feels like there should be an inquest today.  A couple of mistakes in a wide position, followed by two deflections, which confused Craig Gordon, and that’s all it took.  I’m OK with this.  We’ll make mistakes and lose goals, this is one of the better ways of doing so.

Of slightly more concern was how St Johnstone match us for possession and chances created or long period during the game, belying their bottom half of the table position, some 7 points shy of Hamilton.  Ronny will be keen to turnaround this specific ill for next week’s game against Accies, but the plan for Thursday will be altogether different.

Had a great time on Friday at the Irvine CSC, a very impressive club in the Ayrshire town.  Get along and support it if you are in the area, they are doing a lot of good work.  There’s no better way to prepare for a game against Inter Milan than to listen to Stevie Chalmers and Bobby Lennox telling you how it’s done, as they did at Irvine.

Thanks in particular to the man who put a bunch of tenners in my hand for Mary’s Meals.  What a club!

Big week ahead……

Cheers, I just post here as I love the CeltIc chat, sometimes it strays but hopefully I never annoy anybody, as I hav typed before there is far too much good stuff on this blog to let the wee 1% rubbish bring it down, loved the talk about Bobby Murdoch earlier and Bhoys discussing their favourite players, if my old man was still with us he would have been 90 today, always remember him saying that George Connolly was the best he ever saw wearing the Hoops, in his eyes wee Jinky couldn’t have laced Connolly’s boots, it is all about opinions but I love reading other good Celtics men’s opinions, for me the maestro is/will always be my number 1, CeltIc = Paul McStay

Keeping the Faith, I was only in 2nd year in 84 so you must have been a couple of years ahead of me…..in fact as I mentioned my old man, seemingly I was taught by a Lisbon Lion (squad member) Mr J Cushley, in the 6years at school I don’t think I ever heard him talk about football, my father also said he could kick a ball, couldn’t believe it when my father informed me that my English teacher could have been on the park in Lisbon

Sounds like you bhoys ensured BMCUW’s hootenany on tour was a brilliant success.

Dena29 – I’m hearing you led the choir in fine voice!

I had the absolute pleasure of picking up HT, Roy Croppie and the delightful Voguepunter from the airport earlier, listening to their stories of the fantastic time they had, the wonderful hospitality shown to all! I’m Proud to be a part of this family,

Tis true we are more than a club … way, way, way more!

  8. Jamesgang,

I think I eased myself in cleverly last night, arrived late and left early! I’ll be more adventurous next time.

Bhoylo, don’t remember seeing you at Kelly’s but helped Dena29 into new levels of alcohol consumption with the pint I bought her.

  9. Hi Ghuys.. Good to see us get all 3 points at Perth yesterday.. We cant ease up on our challenge for the title.. the sheepfanciers aint gonna give in without a fight.

Right, ahm on the scrounge for a spare for Thursday night! The son in law was out of contact when his letter came offering him his ticket.. Will take a seat anywhere ghuys.

Gerry we’re sure to know each other somehow , I had a brother in your year too. Might even bump into you on Thursday without knowing it!

Catch up another time , I’ve been summoned

  11. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Gerryfaethebrig, it certainly would have. During the miners strike it was alleged that some english polis involved weren’t in fact polis but soldiers and others brought in in to break the strike. Some miners who were lifted said that some of the polis on duty never had badge numbers on their shoulders. This has not been substantiated .

  12. minx1888 praying to Wee Oscar

fine voice is pushing it H screaming more like it but in my defence it was quite late in the evening and a lot of alcohol had been consumed (by me)by then

FOS is a song about the greatest moment in Scottish history,The Battle Of Bannockburn.

The song is wonderful, but only when being sung by The Corries.

*in the early 80s there was an ex-pat radio show on a Saturday morning that gave out the day’s scores, periodically a visiting celebrity was handed the task, i.e. Billy Connolly, Steak and Kidney Devine etc.

One day the visiting duo were asked to read out and the following was heard “Celtic 0 Aberdeen 2 and quite right tae”. Eff them and their flooer of Scotland.

After that day a live recording straight from the Beeb was used.

No wish to cause offence by arguing with your dad. George Connelly was a fantastic player- his goal against Rangers in the 69 Cup Final remains my favourite ever Celtic goal against them and in seasons 71/2 and 72/3 when he moved to sweeper beside big Billy he was by far the best we have had in that role in my time. But better than Jinky? Nah.

Now the player who could have been the best ever was one Brian McLaughlin ( about whom I usually bore some unfortunate into buying me a drink simply to escape me droning on about him at Hootenannies) who was poised for greatness until being injured in a match against Clyde in September 1973 after a tackle that made Neil Simpsons on Durrant look fair. The injury was serious enough to reduce even big Jock to tears and the sad comment ‘ all that talent, ruined.’

Big George was great and when it came down to it he just could not handle being a success but he had enough of a career to be classed as a Celtic great – he’d get in my all time XI- but sadly Brian did not.

Any betting bhoys out there that like a wee fiver on, Aston Villa btts & win was 5/1, stoated, Ajax btts & win 12/5, stoated….. Lyon to win with both teams scoring is 3/1

Lyon are going well and with Laccazette (??) scoring 3/1 could be a goer

Just a pity I didn’t put the treble on

” Do you think you can get 3rd place ?

Mancini – ” Extremely difficult .One game at a time .Our next Serie A game is a week on Monday v Cagliari .They beat us 4 -1 earlier in the season ”

    Interviewer .

” You will know that winning the Europa League will get you a CL place ?”

Mancini ( with an expression suggesting that the interviewer has farted ) –

I remember very clearly that many of the polis during the Miners’ strike were “specials” with no badge nos. Bassas used to brag about the new cars/houses they were buying with their overtime cash whist slagging off the miners who were reliant on food parcels to survive.

Funny you mention the teachers strike, 1984 ?? The Rapid Vienna 3rd game at Old Trafford our bus from St Ambrose got cancelled because any teacher that went were breaking the strike, not the teachers faults Maggie was trying to destroy every single Union, by the way see the Peter Lawell haters, what did they think about Celtic’s board sitting at the back of the bus then, by the way KevJungle, the jungle was still on the go then, in fact that bottle that landed about 20ft away from the Austrian was thrown from the aforementioned jungle…..just sayingThe Milk Snatcher destroyed school fitba in my humble opinion

Afraid I was 10 years previous 1974 at the noo Silverburn.it was under Labour 74-9

School consisted of 4 months of strike.so that meant monday reg. was for the week and travel pass given so for bellarmine bhoys we could explore glasgow.

It was first ever strikes but everything appeared on strike.it disrupted 2nd and 3rd year too…and from those little acorns Thatcher carried on with her scummery..The decline started, from then on*74 football in schools was not the same after.lots of teachers were doing it of their own backs and bein taken advantage.

I recall the rapid game.it done a lot to change the psyche of Celtic,I remember a big debate at time of -should we play.and anger at being ordered to replay.White was not the same as bob kelly the old school said; us young ones just wanted to gub them again.a lot of chat ensued.the guy that threw the bottle cost Celtic as it gave rapid an excuse.

Hope all is good wi you mhate
