Feels like time for an inquest

626

It’s been so long since we lost a goal it feels like there should be an inquest today.  A couple of mistakes in a wide position, followed by two deflections, which confused Craig Gordon, and that’s all it took.  I’m OK with this.  We’ll make mistakes and lose goals, this is one of the better ways of doing so.

Of slightly more concern was how St Johnstone match us for possession and chances created or long period during the game, belying their bottom half of the table position, some 7 points shy of Hamilton.  Ronny will be keen to turnaround this specific ill for next week’s game against Accies, but the plan for Thursday will be altogether different.

Had a great time on Friday at the Irvine CSC, a very impressive club in the Ayrshire town.  Get along and support it if you are in the area, they are doing a lot of good work.  There’s no better way to prepare for a game against Inter Milan than to listen to Stevie Chalmers and Bobby Lennox telling you how it’s done, as they did at Irvine.

Thanks in particular to the man who put a bunch of tenners in my hand for Mary’s Meals.  What a club!

Big week ahead……

Aye there was a few tims that stayed in menock rd.(who lived in house called Errigal ;-)

i recall a friend telling me bout Pollok GC in early days of the lottery.applying for funding grant for club extension but getting knocked back as they didnt allow wimmin.

They withdrew application but it triggered the wimmin as equals debate in golf.i dont know if they allow them in yet as it was a very conservative establishment,

Enjoyed the Hootenany last night in Béal Feirste. Cheers to BMCUWP for organising it and to (1)6 Roads and Gearóid for their hospitality. Great to be back in Belfast with like- minded people.

Hi to all the posters I met, hope to meet you all more frequently in Paradise and anywhere else the Hoops play.

Bhoylo, great to see a poster so young, you brought our average age down by at least 10 years each. (The 12.30am was the bus I was catching)

Listened to this song on the bus on the way back home, reminded me of my visits to Béal Feirste in the ’80s:

Funny you mention the teachers strike, 1984 ?? The Rapid Vienna 3rd game at Old Trafford our bus from St Ambrose got cancelled because any teacher that went were breaking the strike, not the teachers faults Maggie was trying to destroy every single Union, by the way see the Peter Lawell haters, what did they think about Celtic’s board sitting at the back of the bus then, by the way KevJungle, the jungle was still on the go then, in fact that bottle that landed about 20ft away from the Austrian was thrown from the aforementioned jungle…..just saying

The Milk Snatcher destroyed school fitba in my humble opinion

  4. I think the consensus of opinion yesterday with regard to thon new team was that karma is indeed a bitch for the supremacist barstewards (was defo words to that effect).

In Sligo and if I don’t get off this blog, I have been informed, I’m going to get my tubes tied (but not in a 50 Shades kind of way).

  5. I suspect that St J took a leave out of the Harry Rags second half performance and pushed onto our back four and gave Biton less time on the ball ( first minute excepted).

We were a bit sluggish which made for a good game.

I’d be surprised if we can proceed against Inter , as looking good and having a bunch of possession against SPFL opposition is one thing but against superior technical opponents , we simply do not move the ball quickly enough through the midfield.

Interesting challenge for Ronny, I’d be mortified if we try and take so many risks playing the ball out from the back against Inter , I suspect the full backs will be told to hold back certainly for the first 30 minutes or so, with the ball played to Guidetti’s feet and looking for runners Stefan and Kris.

We could do it but if we go in wide open, we will get hit on the counter.

An Tearmann, if Pollok golf club still has male only membership then the R ‘n’ A’s recent decission to allow female members at St Andrews will have put pressure on any male only golf clubs to review their policy.

I know of some bowling clubs who still have a religious appartheid policy and are refused lottery funding as a result but refuse to change.

Menock Road between Aikenhead Road and the top of the hill had a majority of Celtic fans living there.

When my dad took me to games in the late sixties and early seventies, we used to go through Killermont and along Maryhill Road. I used to relish seeing the former Maryhill bus depot bordered by Celtic and Lennox Streets.

FOS is a poor national anthem the words are basically fighting for your wee bit and glen, and fighting an English king. It’s hardly bigging up your own nation, it’s singing about being small and downtrodden. Anthems need to be uplifting either by tune or words.

FOS is a song about the greatest moment in Scottish history,The Battle Of Bannockburn.

The song is wonderful, but only when being sung by The Corries. The wailers who try and lead the anthem at the games and start a dozen octaves too high, make a right “James Hunt”of it,and the fans.

Alfie Noakes, you continue to be a fud.

  12. Keeping The Faith on

Gerryfraethebrig.. I was meant to go on St. Ambrose bus to Manchester too! Ended up I couldn’t go as I was sitting an exam that day so I was scuppered.. I thought that was why they cancelled it.

  13. Thanks for the welcome fholks.

WITS, I wish that was true, although the few that exist are keeping a lower profile than ever

  14. Watching Gollum chalk off 2 perfectly good Aberdeen goals today, turn down a good shout for a penalty for them, and referee the game in his own useless fashion, should be a right kick in the “Toy dolls”to all those paranoid Celtic fans who think we are singled out.

But they wont mention these decisions on their next rant.

  15. Almore

Yeeaaah. Great tune as well my friend. No need to ask. Too good looking to be one. You got to keep posting. Really enjoyed the conversation particulary about the politics from our student days. Changed times indeed.

  21. That Spanish video is the funniest one yet in the Monkey saga.I was nearly crying.

But not crying as much as after reading Alfie Noakes posts.

  22. Forget Inter. Our most important game of the season is against Aberdeen in a couple of weeks. It means so much more.A defeat to the Dons would be bad for us with cup ties to be played. We dont want to be playing catch up.The league is everything.

  23. Turkeybhoy –

    Agreed.

It got to the point of absurdity after the Sevco defeat to Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup when someone posted on here that he was sure the Rovers winner would be disallowed because there was such a stramash in the 6 yard box. Obviously the goal stood but this poster said the referee was “dying to blow for a Sevco foul”.

That’s right. He wanted to disallow it and had the opportunity, but didn’t, and was classed as a cheat simply because he really, really wanted to.

    Oh how I laughed.
