Feels like time for an inquest

626

It’s been so long since we lost a goal it feels like there should be an inquest today.  A couple of mistakes in a wide position, followed by two deflections, which confused Craig Gordon, and that’s all it took.  I’m OK with this.  We’ll make mistakes and lose goals, this is one of the better ways of doing so.

Of slightly more concern was how St Johnstone match us for possession and chances created or long period during the game, belying their bottom half of the table position, some 7 points shy of Hamilton.  Ronny will be keen to turnaround this specific ill for next week’s game against Accies, but the plan for Thursday will be altogether different.

Had a great time on Friday at the Irvine CSC, a very impressive club in the Ayrshire town.  Get along and support it if you are in the area, they are doing a lot of good work.  There’s no better way to prepare for a game against Inter Milan than to listen to Stevie Chalmers and Bobby Lennox telling you how it’s done, as they did at Irvine.

Thanks in particular to the man who put a bunch of tenners in my hand for Mary’s Meals.  What a club!

Big week ahead……

Your post was no bother to me at all. If your dad rated George he was a great judge of a player.

As I said in a post earlier in the day those of us who were brought up knowing only success watching those amazing players were spoiled.

  4. Unbelievable I was conversing with James Forrest on Twitter and he’s blocked me.

    Dearie me.

  5. I remember getting off the train in Manchester (I lived in Sheffield at the time) and asking a policeman the way to Old Trafford. “Dunno, I’m from London, getting some overtime” he said. This when Thatcher was denying that the police were being bussed around nationally.

Brian McLaughlan was the best young Celtic player I ever saw, better than Dalglish, better than jinky. A tragedy.

Does anyone remember ‘Jinky’ Jimmy Smith signing for Celtic, from Newcastle? If his career had not been finished by injury, he “coudda been a contender’.

What did you say to James Forrest and I take it we talking talking about the footballer and not our own CQN bhoy.

  9. Is Commons definately ruled out for Thursday ?

A big performance is needed from everyone, but specifically I am hoping Matthews brings to the table his A game.

Ger57, the miners strike was a real blight in this country’s history. There were wrongs committed by both sides but the government of the time used everything in their arsenal to win including using the intelligence services and having an inside man , one of scargill’s trusted aides according to some reports..

George connelly and brian mclaughlin could have went on to have been two of our greatest players.

I do remember Jimmy Smith. Signed for us the same day as John Doyle but never played because of injury.

The journalist Ian Archer once chose him as his favourite Scottish player.

  13. Am I right in thinking that of the Inter starting 11 today Podolski & Brozovic are ineligible for Thursday?

  14. lovejoysalegend

I was polite, asked him not to swear at me and asked a simple question. Clearly James doesn’t take kindly to his posts being questioned.

the Miners strike was a sad time, when I first posted on the blog Estadio posted a story about his father going on strike at a place where I live, if Estadio is reading this I have now “stole” your story, and told it many times, like the miners it was all about principles, not sure if i would be as strong as my daughter/family comes before everything…..don’t know if that makes me a good guy or a bad guy

That’s a shame as there’s an interesting debate somewhere in there. A lot of people feel let down by Labour, and are looking for a left-leaning alternative, but there are drawbacks to all of them. The Greens don’t seem to be able to count, whilst the SNP have managed to marry socialist policies (or is it the faint aroma of socialism?) with that puritanical, authoritarian streak we know is there in Scottish society.

We had a ball mate. Crackin Guinness in genuinely wonderful company.

James Forrest is advocating voting SNP. I can’t do that while the OBaF Act is in place.

We could have played it at Pittodrie, I think the old board thought about the £s, 24,500 in Aberdeen or 40,000+ at Old Trafford

Everything good with me, hope all is well with your good self

  21. Cheers Gene…

    Shame…

I reckon the starting 11 on Thursday , will be the same as the Partick Thistle and St Johnstone games then.

He could play Guidetti instead of Griffiths, although not sure why he would. The only other possibility, maybe James Forrest.

HT – I like JFs blogs, and Phil’s – but I think both of them are not good at accepting criticism.

I know that they must have suffered the most unimaginable abuse online, so maybe it’s an understandable reaction.
