Feels like time for an inquest

626

It’s been so long since we lost a goal it feels like there should be an inquest today.  A couple of mistakes in a wide position, followed by two deflections, which confused Craig Gordon, and that’s all it took.  I’m OK with this.  We’ll make mistakes and lose goals, this is one of the better ways of doing so.

Of slightly more concern was how St Johnstone match us for possession and chances created or long period during the game, belying their bottom half of the table position, some 7 points shy of Hamilton.  Ronny will be keen to turnaround this specific ill for next week’s game against Accies, but the plan for Thursday will be altogether different.

Had a great time on Friday at the Irvine CSC, a very impressive club in the Ayrshire town.  Get along and support it if you are in the area, they are doing a lot of good work.  There’s no better way to prepare for a game against Inter Milan than to listen to Stevie Chalmers and Bobby Lennox telling you how it’s done, as they did at Irvine.

Thanks in particular to the man who put a bunch of tenners in my hand for Mary’s Meals.  What a club!

Big week ahead……

Very much rated by my old man. I saw him play once – a League Cup humping of Clydebank in which George Connelly scored an own goal.Autumn 71

Saltires, that’s good your dad is enjoying life in his ‘new’ flat.

My dad was always very fond of Peggy, I think it stemmed from the year he spent in Johnstone after being evacuated from Knightswood after the Clydebank blitz, some of the bombs meant for Clydebank fell over the west end..

He went to see Peggy a number of times in hospital but he couldn’t cope with seeing her once the dementia took hold of her.

I haven’t seen Wullie R for about forty years. We would occasionally bump into him if we were down seeing Peggy in Johsntone or if he was visting his brother, the late Father John, when we were up in Auchterader visiting at the same time.

If things keep on improving for our team, you might not be the only one wanting to get to more games.

    Jimmy Smith .

I remember him at Aberdeen .A very good player – lots of skill but seemed to lack physical strength. A Geordie mate at Uni loved Jimmy Smith

I wouldn’t be upset. They are struggling to come to terms with their insignificance.

They have done that for a reaction and to be big news.

Saltires, Clashcitybhoy makes a lot of good points on here and when he mentioned his son a few years back, I knew who he was.

After Dushanbe had posted a number of times I had my suspicions that it was a former member of staff at the Bank of Ireland and who went to games on the Uni bus.

He has mentioned Stokesy and Leigh’s hair weaves in some of his posts and that convinced me he was who I thought he was.

Is his brother back in Belfast now as is Bliff?

  9. Does anyone remember the guy who took his spit the dog puppet to games? He called it tim the dug , had a wee knitted hoops top and its own passport for our games abroad————

He was in South Africa that’s correct, but seemingly he was educated in Glasgow for one year.

Maybe Alfie Noakes will know. Alfie if you are lurking did Jim Murphy attend Bellarmine Secondary.

Sadly I will not be there on Thursday. I can’t do midweek games due to domestic situation. If we meet up I will explain.

Saltires, when you started posting and you mentioned the trip to Budapest for the Honved game and included some names of the former Heraghty’s Young Team (copyright Brian Connor), i thought it was you.

The last time I was in Dublin, seventeen years ago I saw Dushanbe in O’Connell Street but he went into a shop before I could say hello to him. I think he must have moved there after his spell working in former Soviet Bloc countries.

Does anyone remember ‘Jinky’ Jimmy Smith signing for Celtic

*Jimmy Smith was born to play for Celtic………it just happened too late.

Aberdeen had a West of Scotland scout that took a few players up north that should have been Celts, Jimmy,Tommy Craig and Arthur Graham are a few that I can recall.

They also signed a half back fae the Arabs that would have walked al the way fae Broughty Ferry tae pull on the hoops, when he eventually did like Jimmy it was too late.

  19. Ohhhhhhhhh
