Feels like time for an inquest

626

It’s been so long since we lost a goal it feels like there should be an inquest today.  A couple of mistakes in a wide position, followed by two deflections, which confused Craig Gordon, and that’s all it took.  I’m OK with this.  We’ll make mistakes and lose goals, this is one of the better ways of doing so.

Of slightly more concern was how St Johnstone match us for possession and chances created or long period during the game, belying their bottom half of the table position, some 7 points shy of Hamilton.  Ronny will be keen to turnaround this specific ill for next week’s game against Accies, but the plan for Thursday will be altogether different.

Had a great time on Friday at the Irvine CSC, a very impressive club in the Ayrshire town.  Get along and support it if you are in the area, they are doing a lot of good work.  There’s no better way to prepare for a game against Inter Milan than to listen to Stevie Chalmers and Bobby Lennox telling you how it’s done, as they did at Irvine.

Thanks in particular to the man who put a bunch of tenners in my hand for Mary’s Meals.  What a club!

Big week ahead……

    Good trivia question…

On the same night Celtic were playing at Old Trafford, MU were also playing an important European tie.

Some of my thoughts on fans ‘proud traditions’…

I wonder how many of the Sevconian ‘faithful’ actually attend the Kirk?

I suspect, they are protestant in name only and only attend the Kirk for christenings, weddings and funerals.

*I worked with one, right wee blue nose, let all and sundry know very loudly that he would be at church and communion on Christmas Day along with his wife and weans, it was a tradition.

Some one said to me “what about you Tontine”, “I go every Sunday” was my reply. The comeback was “you kafflicks have tae go”.

But, whilst I believe the number of active Catholics who follow Celtic is far, far greater, there too, I believe, a significant number are Catholic in name only.

My mother called the latter “Parkhead Catholics”.

It was -41 this morning and as I walked intae Church, (don’t call it chapel over here), I said to the wee usher that I hope what we believe in is true else we are wasting our time on such a cauld morning.

I believe that both McAdams played for Dumbarton that night. At half time the Sons unveiled their new signing, Ian Wallace.

  9. 67 HEAVEN 22.43…….bring your flags to paradise….flags green and white displayed around the stadium v inter Milan…..what was noticeable at the hun game at Hampden was the greater amount of hun flags compared to what was on display at the celtic end……then again the inflatable monkeys made up for it ….some fans couldn’t resist using them as punch bags

It seems that Scotland is not alone in suffering from poor refereeing decisions (honest mistakes?), if this report by Mark Walker in the Scotsman is accurate…………

“Admittedly, they (Inter) were aided by some beneficial refereeing decisions including a penalty inside the opening minute and a questionable Atalanta sending-off for dissent.”

“Inter were gifted a penalty inside 50 seconds at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia when Guarin was somehow adjudged to have been blocked by Atalanta captain Gianpaolo Bellini in the box.

Xherdan Shaqiri netted the penalty despite Atalanta keeper Marco Sportiello getting a hand to it. But instead of settling Inter, the awful decision only seemed to galvanise the home team and ex-Hearts striker Mauricio Pinilla somehow missed an open goal from a couple of yards out when he ballooned the ball over the bar.

But he soon made amends when the home side deservedly equalised in the 28th minute. He won a header against Inter skipper Andrea Ranocchia into the path of Argentine striker Maximiliano Moralez who comfortably scored.

Inter regained the lead against the run of play eight minutes before the interval when Guarin curled in a superb shot.

Inter were handed another gift by referee Luca Banti just after the break when he sent off Atalanta defender Yohan Benalouane for a second booking for dissent. Guarin grabbed his second goal in the 63rd minute, curling in an effort from distance, before Palacio netted a sublime finish after Guarin set him up.”

Just watched the highlights of Atalanta v Inter.

Soft penalty is putting it mildly!

    Guarin goal was superb.

Inter seemed to get the “rub of the green”, but this win is what they needed ahead of Thursday.

Ian Wallace was/is a dirty Zombie who I managed to oust in trials for Dunbartonshire schools.

He went on to carve out a good career for himself to be fair.

He hammered the bevvy for years afterwards.

  23. Scottish Labour Leader Jim Murphy hits out at Twitter trolls who accused him of trying to cash in on Clutha tragedy

    ———————————————————————————————————————–

There are a number of Murphy-haters who frequent this forum – just answered one earlier on – however, let’s hope to God no one associated with Celtic was associated with the disgusting Clutha smear.

I still cannot get my head round why some Celtic supporters shower their bile on Jim – but they do.

Disagree with him OK, but do not doubt his desire to do good for, and in, Scotland.
