  1. Nothing to say about last night that has not been said.

Looking ahead, two weeks tonight we play Lazio at home and we have 4 CHs injured and one suspended and a question mark over loanee Nat Phillips who is also injured and not match fit. Assuming he gets over his ankle roll, he has to play with Scales. But beyond that we are truly up shit creek without a paddle.

Scales has deputised well, no question about it. But if CCV and Nawrocki had been playing together these past few weeks then things would almost certainly look a lot more solid.

I agree but in this case it wasn`t the headline. Just a sub-headline in the middle of the article.

As I said, the article itself was quite fair. I would imagine its author would not have been too happy with the use of the quote ( as well as with the misquoting of it !).

  3. Wow…last night was a soap opera…and am not talking about the football ;-))

    Haste ye back Stivs ;-))

Swap out bake for post … and we just might be onto something?

    🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

  5. KingLubo…surely he dived too early….from too far away…and the bus bounced over him ;-))

  6. Due to our present injury’s problems is it time to consider moving Johnson in one,and bringing in Ralston .I realise that will weaken the right side but needs must .HH

  7. Interesting that in the panic over CHs’ availability, nobody has mentioned Kobyashi’s return from injury as an option there….

    I wonder why :)

  8. I am still disappointed by last night but not for the biscuit tin/ fail to prepare/ project buying reasons that seem to account for rationalising all our defeats.

I am disappointed because that game was very winnable and the so-called physically superior Feyenoord were struggling to hurt us. They will play much better when they come to CP in the final game.

Only 2 red cards were awarded last night in all 8 CL matches and they were both given to us. I don’t think the ref was mightily biased but I do think VAR failed to give us a fair shake. Two soft yellows for 23 yr old Lagerbielke, the second did not prevent a goal being scored and only connected with the face because the player was slipping to the ground. You see defenders use their arms and bodies in every match to prevent forward reaching their goalies and injuring them by arriving too late. There is no such excuse for 20 yr old Holm- he raised his leg and was going in straight. Many other Celtic defenders went to ground in tackle last night. Scales saved a goal with a great block on the ground and AJ won tackles going to ground on 3 or 4 occasions, but was never straight legged and was always careful to pull away from the player as they collided.

We could attribute the red cards to the youthfulness of the players or their project status But Lagerbielke knows the second yellow was unjustified as he and thousands of others have done this without fuss in previous games. Odin, too, despite being 20, already knows that a straight leg tackle is outlawed, and whether it causes the damage it can, any player on the receiving end is going to want to see a red card shown.

If it was just youth or project status, how do we explain red cards for Nir Button (2x), Vakoun Bayo, Jeremy Toljan, James Forrest, Joss Simunovic, Emilio Izzaguire, Virgil Van Dijk, Eve Ambrose, Scott Brown, Victor Wanyama, Daniel Majstrovic and Bobo Balde who have all been sent off in Europe, playing for us, in the past 20 years?

Are we a dirty team?- naw!

Do we play in a league that encourages blood and snorters tackling?- Maybe

Anyways, I liked a lot of what I saw last night. In contrast to last season’s campaign where we had a lot of counter attackers breaking on a 2 man defence (CCV & Jenz mostly) as they waited for Greg Taylor or Josip Juranovic sprinting back a second too late (Bodo Glimt, I think), I saw a more disciplined defence with the midfield getting back in numbers to limit Feyenoord to 2 shots on target in the first half- one easily saved by Joe Hart, and the goal that should have been saved too. Brendan had a back 4 and 3 midfielders dropping back to form a low narrow block. It left Kyogo very isolated but he seemed to be banking on us getting breakaways without being brought down by Feyenoord’s physical players who only got one Yellow card for their physicality. In addition to the tackle on Maeda, we had the incident where Luis Palma was contacted by the head of a Feyenoor defender, which should have been looked at too.

The Dutch Press have been kinder to us than we have on our blogs. They state that Feyenoord have been blowing away teams 11 v 11, so we never had a chance at 11 v 9.

I have the same feeling as I did with Shaktar away last year- a very good chance missed- rather than an abject performance.

Good afternoon all from the Victoria Bar. I’ll still celebrate win, lose or draw, rain, hail or shine. So there now.

  10. Calvin Stengs, last night’s MOTM. Bought for £5m in the summer. £40k p/w wages. Same as Callum.

Less deadweight in the squad, spread salary budget amongst fewer players.

Go up a tier, to complement the £10k a week punts from far, far away.

  11. As I sed to my mate last night….we’ll wake up Tims tomorrow…que cera ;-))

As for Dallas’ influence…that’s an absurd question…mibbe

  12. I couldn’t watch the game last night but to go 30mins with 9 men and only concede one extra goal is very impressive to me.

The injuries and new recruits at the back has caused havoc but we seemingly did ok last night

That disruption is bad luck, unlike the line up lottery in 2019-21 which was self inflicted. I think Rodgers will have a settled line up in a few weeks and then we will be tighter and create more too. Looking forward to the Lazio game.

  13. Big Wavy…that’s selective statistics to prove a point….wat’s our European Record ;-))

  14. Bhoy From The Boyne on

Free kick aside, I thought Joe Hart’s distribution playing out from the back was good last night.

We won’t ever do much in either Euro competitions until we manage the step up in quality and press. Thankfully, expanded CL and EL in years to come will allow us more games and I would expect us to become more competitive after a few seasons of adjustment.

Domestic SPFL quality to CL is just too much of a leap with just 6 group games a season.
