Focus shifts to Pittodrie

Tonight Aberdeen play the second of a run of three consecutive away games. After overcoming St Johnstone 3-4 in Perth a week ago they are on the road to face Inverness. The Highlanders have not lost in a month, and haven’t lost at home since the visit of Celtic in November, so John Hughes men will provide a stern test for Aberdeen.

Aberdeen are back on the road to Firhill on Friday night. Their season has been free of fixture congestion. This is a rare week with two games, and an even rarer one with two away games. It could be a pivotal period in the campaign.

Celtic won comfortably in the end against Ross County but confidence seemed at a low ebb until Leigh Griffiths opened the scoring. Sentiment may have swung in our favour before we take to the field at home to Inverness on Saturday.

Kristoffer Vassbakk Ajer (born 17 April 1998) is a Norwegian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Start in Tippeligaen. He has previously played for Lillestrøm.

Ajer was born in Norway[1] and he started his career with Rælingen FK before joining Lillestrøm when he was 10 years old.[2]

Ajer joined Start in 2014 as a result of his parents moving to Kristiansand.[2] He made his debut for Start on 19 July 2014 in a 2-1 win against Bodø/Glimt.[3]

At 16 years of age, Ajer captained Start in a 1-1 draw against Lillestrøm on 7 April 2015, becoming the youngest ever footballer to captain a team in the Tippeligaen.[4]

In early January 2016, Ajer had a one week trial with Scottish club Celtic.[5]

He then travelled on a pilgrimage to Lisbon where he met the great and most knowledgable one, Billy McNeill, who through meditation and shamanic repeats of ‘this land is your land’ and ‘the Willy Maley song’ revealed to young Ajer his destiny, to sign for Celtic, which he duly did. He then entered the gates of Paradise, where he vanquished the evil magician, Pistol Pete with a Ronny Roar to the baws…

Hail Hail Bobby, hope yer well.

Each to their own my mhan:)

Yeah, Hurlock…..John Collins could handle him and, did…so could the Maestro.

Ye see, the thing is…the chemistry was wrong in the middle of the pitch at that time…imho.

    John Collins – Maestro – A. Workhorse….was the mix…imho.

Peter Grant was the ‘other’ player of the three in midfield, wee super Joe Miller was the floating wide player.

Collins and, the Maestro should have had a grafter who could do the shift in the middle.

There were rumors at the time that, Billy McNeill wanted to bring in Steve McMahon from Man City…that would have done for me.

Or, seeing as Souness was being opportunistic….so should we have been.

The SMSM were still playing the violins for Ian Durrant…they were hurting deeply.

So, there was the cue for a shrewdy move from Big Billy….go to the Dons and bring in Neil Simpson.

I like those kind of apples:)

The Ronny roar should have been reserved for special occasions IMO ,like when Virgil got the late winner at Pittodrie.

Much like Martin O’Neill coming on to the park and putting his arm round Lenny after the huns game.

It means so much more when it’s occasional and spontaneous.

  5. What does the signing of Kristoffer Ajer mean for Liam Henderson? Can’t see both of them pushing for first team next season unless there’s a mass clear out of our numerous midfielders.

  6. My friends in Celtic,

Now there is clear blue water between us and the sheepies. Will Ronny get any credit when we win the league ?

Unlikley, not even from Celtic supporters.

I have always stated that our currenr managers job is actually harder that previous ones. The absense of our former rivals with ( rightly or wrongly ) high intensity fixtures has made Ronny’s job more difficuly, not less difficult.

Masonic influences in football : quite possible nowadays, definitively in times gone by. Simplistically the Masons are a clique. Does the KOSC fall into a clique tag. Does the Pioneer,s fall into a clique tag ?

I suppose it depends on each individual’s opinion.

As for away fans : Used to love away games, a closer bond, but potentially more volatile. Better supporters, ???

Apart from when I was driving we used to love sampling pubs in different locations. We used to love taking a “cargo” on our away days. I have seen many great away results, but I have seen many, many great away day experiences.

Better supporters No, but generally ( not all by any means ) more lubricated than home supporters.

    Hail, hail.

PS : Must consider returning to away games :-)

‘You don’t want to wake up at times, You just lie there. Sometimes you don’t sleep either, just lie there thinking, but that’s why I am here – because I really care and want to turn things around. The hardest part in life is when you don’t know what the answer is. But when you know the way forward you can do that. For me, it takes 48 hours to get the disappointment and reflection out of the body. That’s how it has been in my football career. Many times I have sat after games and thought that I don’t want to do this anymore, because it is so painful to lose.’ Ronny Deila.

I notice more and more posters objecting to the view that the MSSM is a factor in forming/shaping opinion.

We do not live in a vacuum. The information required to form an opinion has to come from somewhere. If you are one who does not read, watch or listen to the MSSM, you will still be exposed to it indirectly via the opinions of others. It might seem obvious that going to games allows you to use the evidence of your own eyes but even in these cases, preconceptions can shape what seems like one`s own opinion. Not a one of us is exempt from influence.

Ronny should have clued himself up after his, all round management of the Quarabag away tie.

    It was managerial excellence.

    Well, it was for me.

He should have made the Quarabag game his template for, all away games domestically and, for ‘all’ home and away Euro ties….he should also have applied this to ‘all’ domestic cup games.

In respect of media influence and judgement on RD I think there are two intertwining strands to that piece of string.

One is performances on the day or previous weeks where selections or formations or lack of dig attract criticism balanced and unbalanced.

Two is the artificially high barrier set by the media about what Celtic should achieve in the absence of TRFC and our resources.

This latter criticism is bereft of understanding of the nature of league and cup competitions. We have all seen how cup games get lost on the turn of a single event and last night demonstrated where more resources come in useful. When Hayes went off I knew Aberdeen had problems and the Dons had no one to fill his boots. We have been without a number of key players over the season but have still managed to top the league.

Then there is the CL. Celtic might make the CL qualifiers one in three, heading for one in four like our qualifying rivals, but RD was jumped on by the media from the off and any criticism based on not qualifying in my opinion is unfair on RD. What is also unfair is the denigration of where he has been successful. Where he gets no or little credit for players playing well but criticised for not developing those with poor form.

The type one criticism is fair enough. RD should be judged on how well or badly Celtic play each game, but the second type leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The problem though is both types intertwine and to the reader or writer of any post it is difficult to know if it’s based on actual performances or the higher but unfair benchmark which I believe the unthinking media set.

  19. 16 roads,

Did you know that Bolshevism has it’s origins in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, and that Trotsky and the Bolshevik Revolution was bankrolled by Wall Street?

Credit to Ronny for getting us back on track and keeping the heid while others were losing theirs.

He just needs to work out how to fit 2 strikers in his team and he will return to being a fans favourite again.
