Focus shifts to Pittodrie

Tonight Aberdeen play the second of a run of three consecutive away games. After overcoming St Johnstone 3-4 in Perth a week ago they are on the road to face Inverness. The Highlanders have not lost in a month, and haven’t lost at home since the visit of Celtic in November, so John Hughes men will provide a stern test for Aberdeen.

Aberdeen are back on the road to Firhill on Friday night. Their season has been free of fixture congestion. This is a rare week with two games, and an even rarer one with two away games. It could be a pivotal period in the campaign.

Celtic won comfortably in the end against Ross County but confidence seemed at a low ebb until Leigh Griffiths opened the scoring. Sentiment may have swung in our favour before we take to the field at home to Inverness on Saturday.

I always understood it to have been financed by Germany,as a means of reducing their conflict to the one front by removing Russia from the war.

Bolshevics were bankrolled from German Reich. German Reich order number 7443, March 2nd, 1917 to Deutsche Reichsbank. That official order says that money must be paid as per applications from people listed in that order. Some of the names you will know: Lenin, Trotsky, Zinoviev and the others. Most of the money were paid via the banks in Finnland.

If Legia is a champion this year, there is no chance for Legia:Celtic competition which is good news for me.

Its in the Record so guff probably sums it up.

In theory though every action has an equal but opposite reaction. The closed shop CL would have huge ramifications.

in any case, even under the status quo we are finding it more and more difficult to compete. A so called Atlantic League would open the door to much greater income for Celtic.

We have had one hand tied behind our back for a long long time and soon may have two hands tied behind our back. We have been restricted by geography long enough.

I’d be exploring any possibilities beyond our own border. I believe as late as last year Lawwell was said to be against the Atlantic League idea but things can change quickly.

If the EPL can sell Hull and Bournemouth to the masses I think the allure of a league with clubs with real European pedigree has a chance. There was huge commercial backing the first time prior to UEFA kicking the idea into touch.

The set barrier criticism based on available resources indulged by the media appears to me to be entirely Celtic-specific. I bet there won’t be any comment today about the animosity Caley feel towards Aberdeen this season which has fuelled their decent results against them.

Aberdeen treat all the other Highland clubs as operating within their orbit of influence such that they cherry pick players as required. Having sneaked the best player Shinnie on a free in the summer, then tried to pinch, unethically, the remaining best player Tansey during the winter window, they made a rod with which Hughes has happily beaten their back.

Jerry Cornelius, Bobby M and Zbyszek – Sorry lhads, but I’m reading that the primary financier of the Russian revolutionary movement 1905–1917 was Jacob Schiff, of Kuhn Loeb and Co., New York.

Correct, mate. Jackson tore Caley a new one in his column for denying Tansey a shot at glory and a huge wage rise, etc, etc. You know, the kind of language usually reserved for teams refusing to give away their player to Rangers.

Strangely, that sort of thing-not selling to your rivals in order to keep your own team viable on the pitch-has been widely lauded down south.

  14. The worrying thing is that any normal person stumbling on this site could easily be left with the impression that Celtic fans are a bunch of anti-Semitic, neo fascist, fundamentalist, frothing at the mouth nutjobs.

    Quite disturbing really.

Generally speaking I find Richard Gordon of BBC a pleasant enough anchorman. He’s knowledgable, courteous and doesn’t go through the facade of being a ‘neutral’ – he is openly supportive of Aberdeen without necessarily being biased…..

That changed last night as he let the mask slip post match and lampooned Willie Collum. Ok WC is hopeless but I found RG comments very unprofessional and frankly beneath the standards he has set himself..

Yes last night didn’t just wound AFC – I think it was a deadly blow for a wider media hope.

I think Schiff helped finance the first Russian Revolution-it came on the back of defeat by Japan.

He also raised the loans for Japan in the first place,as he viewed Russia as anti-Semitic.

By the time the 1917 revolution came along,I don’t think he was even alive, but happy to be wrong on that.

I’ve already made the point too several AFC fans bemoaning the fact that Willie C is a teacher in a catholic school that it is a very loaded misconception. Celtic being and always been a club open to all….

I suppose it’s easy to be impartial if your club isn’t in contention.

And for all Collum’s refereeing was down to his usual standard ICT deserved to win. Aberdeen were poor.

  19. 16 roads – Celtic über alles…

No, they were bankrolled from the German government. Germany did it to weak one of their main enemies in that war. Money for propaganda, journeys etc.

The revolutionary movement 1905-1917 ? People overrate it. Even just before 1917 the Communists were weak oposition. The problem at the time in Russia was war against Germany and at the same time conflict between Duma (Parliament) and Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. Nicholas II was one of the weakest Tsars in their history. The politisians and the generals asked him many times to abdicate. Weak Russia during hard times. On the other side cruelity of the war and crisis of humanity. Many lost their faith in humanity. The Communists had an answer on this. They had wrong answers but at least they had them ready. If you add some old ideas about Russia being the chosen nation you have the revolution at the gates.

    Enough about this.

The Bolsheviks also made money from newspapers and pamphlets .. The Bolsheviks also made money from donations . ( particularly from the disaffected children of rich financiers , bankers etc.).I have no idea if they also made money from selling drugs or running taxis.
