Football the morning after the night before

844

We should commission a study into what happens to football teams immediately after a big game when they need to play a less illustrious opponent.  This week Kilmarnock got a better result against Celtic than Barcelona, and unlike the Catalans, Kilmarnock were away from home.

Cast your memory back five years for a better example.  Celtic beat Champions League holders, Milan, remarkably the only time the club have recorded a win against reigning champions, and met Gretna the following weekend, at Fir Park, Motherwell.  Gretna were promoted that summer but had cutbacks forced on them, as the financial gamble to promote them to the top flight.  Still, a James Grady free kick caught Artur Boruc on his heels.  It took goals from Chris Killen (remember him?) and Scott McDonald in the final three minutes to save face for Celtic.  Gretna failed towards the end of that season and were subsequently liquidated.

Celtic got the better of both Spartak Moscow and Benfica that season.

Did Dena29 give us an update on her sister and nephews troubles in Barcelona?

    Thank you.

  2. Jude I don’t know about Ambrose but I stop looking at them ratings years ago

We had just pumped the Dons 3-0 and man for man they received about 5 or so points more than us.

I stoped paying attention after that.

  3. Are there no other, more suitable, places that some of the tawdry depressing arguments on here can be taken?

I have no time for them either. My father in law had a very rough time at a home run by brothers in 50’s Ireland-not sexual just violent. He was delighted when I married his daughter, liked me more than other son in laws.He started coming to Mass with us for about a year before he died, loved being back at mass.

Naw no acceptable, the savile stuff was known about for years and years,

serious questions were beginning to be asked about the authorities in Yorkshire,

as I’ve said many times was/is coordinated as a distraction from the serious questions about existing authorities.

savile is about historic authorities, something you are keen to focus attention on.

Are you employed in the media per chance, it would explain a lot of you agenda on this issue.

    Yo,bud.

Having a quiet weekend,no comment on the football for me.

Nice of Italy to arrange the weather to remind you of home-all you need is a row of horizontal trees to round it off!

Won’t be home at Christmas, should be early February I reckon. Though I may just hold it off till Cheltenham Festival time. Smashin’ night wi you and yer lads, but you could have warned me the trains to Ayr and to Glasgow arrive at the same time…..

Looking forward to the next time, for sure.

I was as quick to criticise Ernie as you were, but we’ve made our point-with help from a few others,of course.

I don’t think there is anything more to be gained from arguing in circles,or labouring a point. What has been said, remains. People can make up their own minds from it.

  14. Jude, I canny argue.

Mathews was slack before it, Ambrose shoulda been more sincere and Forster maybe could have raced out.

Ach one of those things. Maybe it’s the kick in the ass we needed.

  15. On entertainment value alone,I never knew anyone who thought that Sa-vile was in any way amusing or talented in any way.

He wasn’t even photogenic, which counts for a lot in TV land.

I never could understand how he had a broadcasting career, lasting as long as it did.

wee bit off topic but here’s a another strange one from Hampden, starting next next week:

New exhibition at the Scottish Football Museum: Huns’ 140 years of history.

Curator Richard McBrearty said: “…The storylines will finish on the memorable run to the UEFA Cup Final in 2008 …”.

Should be lots of great memorabilia on show of Manchester 98, eh?

Hopefully, Mr McBrearty will be a busy man keeping the exhibition up to date as his colleagues in the rooms upstairs are obliged to strip the titles and cups “won” during a fair chunk of that history.

As I say, a strange one from the blazers at Hampden, but no doubt they are expecting world record attendances for the Hun’s one and only appearance at Hampden this year.

Too all you censors, this blog has been famed for the non football related mega debates, in fact that is one of the main attractions the world over.

Now if you are tired of the current debate there are a few options, scroll on, start your own debate or demand censorship.

  25. On a personal note, I posted here a few months ago concerning the Yorkshire paedo ring that I thought it strange it had hardly been mentioned on the news, in fact the MSM were running with the story concerning the teacher who had run off to France with one of his pupils. The Yorkshire story seemed to have been silenced.

I remember thinking at the time how strange it had been covered up.

    Now it’s the Saville story….

  28. Evening folks.

Looking for a bit of help. Was having a discussion regarding TFPLG and I remembered an article by Graham Spiers in which he confirmed the MSM in Scotland protected him from scandal stories and in return he fed them exclusives.

I think it was in the Herald, might have been about 5 years ago. Been trying to find the article on-line but to no avail. Anyone have a link?

    Would be much appreciated.
