Football’s ability to destroy the finest spreadsheets

492

I watched Liverpool lose their fifth consecutive home game in the EPL last night.  One of the best teams in Europe over the last four years, which famously benefits from fan motivation, sit seventh in the table and out of a European spot for next season.

Even on current form, Liverpool would destroy Celtic, but the parallels in the two clubs decline are clear.  Virgil van Dijk’s injury enforced absence at Anfield had as big an impact on Liverpool as Fraser Forster’s loss to Celtic.  Both sides lost significant numbers through injury and, if anything, Celtic fans have a greater reputation for encouraging their team than Liverpool’s.

Jurgen Klopp, the urbane football intellectual, looks lost.  We see unflattering bouts of temper as he struggles to understand where his Midas Touch went.  Jurgen is among the game’s very best; Neil Lennon should take comfort that what happened to him can happen to anyone.

You and I have often said that a team operating at 90% is unrecognisable from the same players at full tilt.  When one or two things go wrong at the margins, an entire edifice can crumble.  Watching Liverpool also suffer does not sweeten the pill, but it is a lesson that football can destroy even the finest spreadsheets.

PHILBHOY-ach I’m sure you were there in spirit and Clare would have known that.

    Memories are everything now.

I have a memory stick full of my dad’s music that he played in his car.

I went out yesterday for the first time in his car without him and put his music on and drove around for a few hours just listening to it.Finished up at Celtic park,as you do.

And MARSPAPA seems to have the same memory stick 😉

    Wonderful joyous sad post

I hope and trust you really spoiled Olivia.

A mega big HH to you all.

  3. SFTB maybe you dont need the board to contest the stolen leagues .

But the history books do and that’s a fact.

And you used the word censorship not me. I believe I said that you are not allowed to criticize the board even with irrefutable evidence of wrong doing.

There is irrefutable evidence of wrong doing against Celtic and people will still not accept it, but instead of addressing the problem they decide to mention the 9IAR, again in your own argument you believe that we have done 15IAR why dont the board address this issue.

I believe you are missing the point in saying the argument would not be strengthened. It’s their job as custodians of Celtic, they are but a dot in the history of Celtic. Then again it doesn’t matter as long as SFTB thinks we have won 15 IAR it’s all good.

    FFP not being addressed,

    Poor standards of refs

    Scottish government and COVID 19.

MSM and their agenda against Celtic.

Police scotland and supporters of the club.

The evidence is all there, but our custodians choose not to use it and unless the people in charge start to talk about the illegal activities of an opposition teams the case will never be heard. Regardless of the evidence.

I like your line about not being obsessed by the board. Well guess what, they run everything and you really do need to start to pay attention. Or dont, just blame everybody else because it’s not the boards fault.

It’s ok everybody we have done 15 IAR SFTB said

We have not agreed on much over the last few months but on this – 100% the same!

  5. lets all do the huddle on

    Poor standards of refs

i would suggest their employers think their standards have been exemplary this season

  6. Fairhillbhoy – I apologise for saying Hun Fuck.

I would not normally say Hun Fuck but this whole season with the establishment and politicians leaves me with no other conclusion that there are many hun fucks.

Again I apologise for the use of the term Hun Fuck.

    Am i missing something

WTF is going on , being sent videos of bigots with fireworks and players jumping around in the dressing room as if they have won the world cup …. Isn’t it customary to actually wait until you win something before you celebrate?

Guy moved in adown the street about 5 years ago. Nice guy, nice family. Spoke to him in passing on and off. Not a football fan, more a Glasgow Warriors guy and more interested in golf, if anything he liked to see Hamilton do well as his dad supported them. Never engaged in any football chat. Never really understood the “old firm” thing.

Haven’t seen much of him over last 6 months since lockdown and the weather.

    Tonight…fireworks from his back garden!

    —————————————————————————–

That is just the tip of the iceberg have you not noticed the butcher’s apron face masks and tammies reappearing. The bowling club and golf club numbers will also rise again but there will be plenty of loose stones for sale as they crawl out from under them.

Just smile and nod when you see him again and ask if he still goes to the rugby? He’ll know you know.

    KEEP THE FAITH

Marspapa, there were people with balls, they started RES12 stupidly thinking our board would address the issue.

    ———————————————-

PITYMEVIN i for one was Guilty of misplaced TRUST, who would have thought we would have been shafted by our own .

I’M grateful for the efforts of the RES Bhoys , maybe one of them will get granted a place on the board to represent the fans….nae laughin noo.

  17. Pity Mevin

And you used the word censorship not me. I believe I said that you are not allowed to criticize the board even with irrefutable evidence of wrong doing.

I don’t think we are getting very far here and, it will soon be match day, but….

I disagreed with your statement which you reproduce above. I still disagree with it. You ARE allowed to criticize the Board. You can and do do so on any Celtic blog, including this one. You can do so to the faces of the Board, should you consider it worthwhile to do so, at CP or outside provided that you are careful not to slander them or use foul or sectarian language (within earshot of a copper or steward). The GB have done so often and the only time they fall foul of censorship is when they overstep the mark and go chasing players and buses with seeming violent intent.

Now, the Board has paid precious little interest in these reactions, unfortunately, and, apart from keeping Neil in the job for a little longer than needed, to avoid the impression of collapsing in the face of the GB bus chasing incident, they have done nothing in response.

Don’t call it “not being allowed”, which is a synonym for censorship, if what you mean is, they don’t do anything when you criticise. It is legitimate to say “I am not being allowed to change it to what I want”. It is not legitimate to say “I am not allowed to criticize”; that is just blatantly inaccurate.

There is irrefutable evidence of wrong doing against Celtic and people will still not accept it, but instead of addressing the problem they decide to mention the 9IAR, again in your own argument you believe that we have done 15IAR why dont the board address this issue.

There is irrefutable evidence of wrong doing at Ibrox and the Board have been cowardly in not reacting to it. Worse still, they misled the Res 12 petitioners and , by extension, the rest of the support who shared these legitimate concerns, a merry dance, and that is to their eternal shame.

But because they do not express the view and because the rest of Scottish society has swallowed the Continuity Myth, does not mean thatyou or I have to do so, nor that our view is wroong, it just proves it to be an unpopular view.

I believe you are missing the point in saying the argument would not be strengthened. It’s their job as custodians of Celtic, they are but a dot in the history of Celtic. Then again it doesn’t matter as long as SFTB thinks we have won 15 IAR it’s all good.

I didn’t say the argument would not be strengthened if the Board backed it. Of course it would do so. What I said was that my belief in the rightness of the argument is not strengthened if they come on board nor is it diminsihed if they do not. I would like it to happen but I do not need it to happen.

And, of course, as long as I believe we won all the titles we won honestly and that they won all the titles they won, since 98 at least, to have been fraudulently won, that is good enough …………

    For me.

You can wait for the backing and approval of Celtic custodians but I’d advise you that you are wasting your time. They have already demonstrated they do not have the balls for it.

The only choice you face now is whether to continue to support Celtic because you regard us as a club for playing football so you will back the players and managers. Or to decide that the guys at The Board Level, who let us down, have destroyed your faith in the whole club, players included, and that’s the end of your finacial support (it will never be the end of your support, though or you would not be posting here, or anywhere)

I’m aff to watch a film with the good lady now

I have identified a few new Hun neighbours by their issue of fireworlks tonight.

  18. All this talk about Sevco is boring,we all knew a while ago were the league was heading and it certainly wasn’t to Parkhead,Me I hope there is big changes coming to Celtic in the Board Room it needs young dynamic Celtic Men or Women to lead us to the top again, also a complete set off Top Coaches, personally I don’t want Martin O’Neill Gordon Strachan Paul Lambert ,Michael O’Neil Roy Keane AlexNeil Steve Clarke ,what I wouldn’t mind seeing is Ronny Delia and John Collins being Fitness Coaches up at Lennoxtown, As for the first team coach I really don’t know, who apart from Martinez or Howe is regarded as being a good fit for the first team coach.
