Football’s better without manipulation

782

I’ve no fondness for Stuart McColl but I’m disappointed the wheels have fallen off Motherwell’s bogey this season.  Delivering two consecutive second place finishes in a league populated with mostly better finances teams was exceptional.  Over the last three years they have lost players instead of paying money they couldn’t afford, otherwise they would almost certainly be challenging at the top of the table.

I like Gordon Strachan.  One of the things I like about him is he is almost impossible to get on-message.  Talk about manipulating football in order to get the ‘right’ teams in the top division is ludicrous, Gordon knows this, or he wouldn’t have used a word like “manipulate”.  On a substantive note, I think he’s wrong on this point.

The game changed when Rangers were liquidated, and it changed again when Hearts and Hibs were relegated.  Fewer people buy tickets as there is not genuine competition for the league title, but some things we can do without.

Scottish football survived without the ticket money these clubs brought them, and the country’s streets, pubs and A&E departments have benefited from not having to cope with the sheer hassle we used to put up with.

I’ve enjoyed our four lower tier-only games this season, they were atmospheric and entertaining.  If this was our future, I’d bite your hand off for it before I’d want to go back to the old ways.

Celtic, Motherwell, Aberdeen and the rest are defined on their own merits, and many of us are enjoying our football.

All the club have to do is say that Donald Findlay, QC, former vice Chairman of Rangers FC Ltd and currently chairman of Cowdenbeath, outlined his informed and considered view T the weekend and that Celtic FC is broadly in agreement with the learned gentleman.

Its one thing it coming from Findlay, quite another Celtic using it.

Its not as if reasonable folk are the ones to be concerned about. Nuances not being in their vocabulary never mind understanding.

Sorry but couldn’t disagree more. Celtic cannot have a voice because of the fanatics in their support? They have silenced us? They have indeed won – so much for former Chairman John Reid’s promise that Celtic would speak out and stand up for ourselves. It leaves me empty.

No need to antagonise anyone – simply state Donald Findlay was right. You know Celtic think that. I know they do yet you are saying we are scared.

If that match kicks off with Celtic remaining silent then they have accepted the lie and it will be too late. Many Celtic supporters will drift away, being unable to go along with a kid-on situation that we are playing a club that cheated even in death.

The good news for you at least is that I don’t get the game live on TV either thru the cable service or Celtic TV, so no updates will be forthcoming from me at least.

I suggest you do as I do:

Avoid the internet all together, don’t open email or SMS messaging apps and wait till Celtic TV transmits the game at around 11pm Celtic park time.

What is the state of play with Resolution 12?

Are you saying the game is not on TV here? Or Celtic TV?

That’s disappointing if so, previous games have been screened.

You can disagree with me all you like. The world is what it is, not as we would like it to be.

As an old nun once told me, you can try and carpet the world or wear slippers. (Actually I think she really meant wear out slippers.)

I don’t see what benefit a statement from Celtic would bring and I don’t fancy the consequences. It would have to be from all clubs via the SPFL/SFA by forcing them to do the right thing.

  9. And Celtic TV, and Fox Soccer Plus.

Maybe I should have read the post you were replying to…

We waited on the tax cases but they cheated that time and time again.

We looked on as Duff and Phelps actually tried to sign a player as they entered administration.

We waited for the inevitable cost cutting in administration -nothing doing there.

We waited for LNS to strip them of titles but they got out of that with some amazing SFA interpretation of rules.

We have waited for progress on Res 12 which you have done a great job on and have my admiration. We still wait.

However all of the above re-affirms my view that the establishment – just as it gave them all that money to spent on players they couldn’t afford – will do all they can to help and protect them.

    I get that.

I don’t get Celtic playing along – we are all wasting of time on this if that is the way it will pan out. There is a wallpaper company in east end called The Untouchables – would be fitting sponsors for new club.

  11. If we are gonnae say something it must be said NOW.

Not on the eve of this damned game… that would be crazy.

Cannae see our board saying owt though…

The game is being shown on one of the Fox Sports channels that I don’t have.

It’s being shown on Fox Sports HD at 1pm.

I will wait till 6pm cloistered in my office with PCs, iPads and iPhone all off.

I might even hide my grand daughter’s Kindle.

I would probably be better not getting out of bed…….

    Now there’s a thought.

  13. Awe Naw earlier referred to Resolution 12, and the Law of The Land.

I agree that any statement regarding their status should be from the SFA, SPL as a collective of clubs. For Celtic to come out and say so would be incongruous and be viewed as petty.

But one has to say when it comes to clarity and truth…. In this day and age customers are cheated/fobbed off every day….

    But shareholders are not customers.

    Entirely different matter.

Its simply the interdependent nature of football and the way its governance is structured. Only having one vote amongst 42 clubs, many of whom have benefitted from TRFC’s presence in their divisions, means a consensus is required. So its money and sectarianism. The latter fuelling the former.

Only a consensus of club’s supporters stopped the abomination of their straight return to the SPL at the time.

Its going to take another ST strike threat from all clubs to get true justice. What are the chance’s of that when some of our own support are willing to continue to be shafted, although perhaps more detail of how, spread over the support as a whole, might change things?

If you have been talking to BRTH you will know that RFC acted deceitfully from 1999 with evidence of such available from 2005. This has gone in hard copy to SFA/SPFL as well as 13 well know main stream journalists.

Barely a nibble although their silence, like with Res12 does not necessarily mean inaction but they know OK. They all got a package of hard copy evidence.

There is a book in all of this and its not really about football but the sick society that lives off it.

  15. I think, I know it’s a shock, that we, Celtic, will make it clear that this will be the first meeting between us and Sevco.

How it’s done is another matter.

We will not be able to make any statement in the match programme as we will not be publishing it.

PL and the board will have to face the inevitable backlash from hard core, dyed in the wool, turn up every game fans, who will desert in droves if the board even hint that this is a continuation of our rivalry with the corpse of the cloven hooves.

    Quick visit.

The original Rangers wouldn’t sign members of my family because of a vile, and sometimes hilarious (they missed McGrain, the fools), policy. Hilariously, that mob were liquidated and consigned to the great hunnery below.

The new Rangers have signed an Irishman and Catholics (I assume). I don’t have any fire in my belly about the new Rangers. Indifference is my default mode, incidentally that annoys their support the most.

    Great work.

Saddens me that such causes are becoming more and more necessary.

Yet more and more people being aware and taking action gladdens the heart. Thanksgiving is obviously a big drive but our parish, increasingly has food drives throughout the year. In Scotland too…

    We live in Dickensian Times….

    No doubt.

So if Celtic “call” them out it might well incite violence?

Since when did they need an excuse? If Guidetta scores three or four against the m theyll

do what they usually did when the previous incarnation was around .

God help us if Stokes gets a hand full

So in the interest of civil order (and for the sake of Scottish football according to Gordon Strachan) Celtic should just let them win.

Have some on here become so old and “comfortably numb” that they just can’t be bothered making a stand?
