Football’s better without manipulation

782

I’ve no fondness for Stuart McColl but I’m disappointed the wheels have fallen off Motherwell’s bogey this season.  Delivering two consecutive second place finishes in a league populated with mostly better finances teams was exceptional.  Over the last three years they have lost players instead of paying money they couldn’t afford, otherwise they would almost certainly be challenging at the top of the table.

I like Gordon Strachan.  One of the things I like about him is he is almost impossible to get on-message.  Talk about manipulating football in order to get the ‘right’ teams in the top division is ludicrous, Gordon knows this, or he wouldn’t have used a word like “manipulate”.  On a substantive note, I think he’s wrong on this point.

The game changed when Rangers were liquidated, and it changed again when Hearts and Hibs were relegated.  Fewer people buy tickets as there is not genuine competition for the league title, but some things we can do without.

Scottish football survived without the ticket money these clubs brought them, and the country’s streets, pubs and A&E departments have benefited from not having to cope with the sheer hassle we used to put up with.

I’ve enjoyed our four lower tier-only games this season, they were atmospheric and entertaining.  If this was our future, I’d bite your hand off for it before I’d want to go back to the old ways.

Celtic, Motherwell, Aberdeen and the rest are defined on their own merits, and many of us are enjoying our football.

  1. It’s interesting that so many of us are desperate for Celtic to definitively state that this rangers are a new club. In fact some Tims seem obsessed by it. Why? That seems like the kind of vitriol you would preserve for your oldest rival. Oh wait…

A statement from Celtic now, months in advance, would probably not lead to riots in the streets of Glasgow but what would it serve? It would just look petty. it would essentially read as GIRUY. It’s fine for us as a support to think like that but I feel the club itself have to show more class than that. (I tried really hard not to use “dignity” there).

We know they’re not THAT rangers but they’re still the rangers and demand for semi final tickets will be huge. I’ll be honest I don’t care which incarnation of rangers shows up. If they’re wearing royal blue with fat Sally as manager then I want Celtic to put ten past them. When the game kicks off, whether it was a club or a company that was liquidated will become academic.

    Auldheid,

As you know, I’m less trusting than you, they have taken it as far as they can my arse, they’ve taken it as far as they want and are annoyed its still going is how I see it. The resources they have at their disposal should have killed this yet they wait for us to gather and possibly pay for evidence/expert opinion, stinks.

  3. Burning bush,

A statement from Celtic, uefa, spfl, sfa, p67 or even the UN will never stop some from behind like they are our oldest rivals.

Not so easy to get in about somebody if they don’t confront you face to face. Anyway, I’m saying I understand the club’s stance, I’m not yet sure that I agree with it.

The main point here is that they shouldn’t even be on this position.

I dunno why the argument still persisted,to be honest.

Unite took Honda to court for it about 2001 and won the case, with the court ordering that money owed be back-paid to the date the original law was passed in 1998.

Employers bleating now about how much it might cost have-surprise!-no faffing sympathy from me.

    Interesting.

We had a similar issue at work. For years we were only given basic pay when off on holiday. Turns out an average of last so many weeks bonus must be factored in.

Most productive 10 mins googling ever :)

  8. You give in to a bully once then how many more concessions need be made? Do we then give up wearing the hoops in case the peepul were being incited? Or paint celtic park nuetral colours ?

It’s not an easy position the club are in, I completely accept that but the difference between us and the other spl clubs are that we were engaged in almighty struggle against Rangers and we won!! In May of 2012 when hmrc blocked the cva, it validated our victory , they drove themselves to liquidation endlessly trying to put one over on Celtic . We played by the rules they didn’t . Not stating this means our own club don’t acknowledge that victory.

if the 5 way agreement is left to a vote of clubs and Celtoc have the deciding vote what then

Just on break and catching up.

I understand your frustration regarding lack of clarity etc but last night was a huge step in the right direction in engaging meaningfully with the support.

Representatives were there from all Celtic supporter organisations, including the GB.

As TD has stated we weren’t asked to sign any secrecy disclosure on the way in but I do think we need to be mindful of putting on a public forum, some of the things.

  11. Bada Bing

Then why not vote down Res12 last year. They could have but did not.

Had they been architects of the 5 way it would have been in their interest to vote against.

I’ve also seen evidence that Celtic on the SPL Board were not informed in 2012 about an HMRC enquiry around 2009/10 to SPL about side letters.

I know Platini message re sporting integrity that was published on CQN came from Celtic so I’m not buying into the notion we were architects of the 5 way.

If you accept the concept of the interdependent nature of football as an industry and that means ALL clubs dependent on each other then how the 5 way came about is understandable.

That does not make it acceptable but it does help understand the motivations at play.

  12. Help !

” Celtics first foray into continental competion was a 10-1 victory over FC Basel “.

Mmm -my addled ole bonce thinks Celtic played Valencia in the Inter Cities blah blah Cup the season before we played Basel ..

    Am I wrong ?

  13. Technically and legally The RIFC are a new club.

In reality they are the same fans , same colours , same stadium, same hatred, etc….

    We all know this.

So who cares about public declarations that will do more harm than good. It will throw petrol on a fire. Nothing else.

My satisfaction is knowing Celtic are better in every respect. We have moral superiority for as long as we avoid liquidation ( forever), we have a bigger stadium, bigger income, play in bigger competitions, have better players, better history, better future, better Board ( who can still improve imo)…

I actually think any inflammatory public declarations would diminish our unquestionable superiority.

We know – they know – we are better!

  14. Although I don’t completely agree, I can understand PL’s stance on making any sort of statement about the zombies. Of course, safety of fans is paramount. However, should that mean that we just take everything the bully throws at us and say or do nothing?

What happens if, during the game, we are 2 goals ahead, is Ronny told to ease off in case there’s trouble due to a possible drubbing?

Maybe the plan is even to lose the game in case there’s a riot.

It appears to me that the back of the bus is deemed to be the safest area.

  15. Burning bush,

Something I thought you understood, the resolution was not voted down because of any agreement on the issue but because their stewardship and their commitment to the protection of all shareholders interests was being questioned, this required them to prove to us representing the required amount of shareholders to force a resolution that they were/are protecting our interests. Dont dress this up any other way.

  23. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    Cults..,

Maybe a statement will bring an initial backlash but when the initial statement is made than the rest of the authorities are then forced to come into line as they must, we would then have a major rethink on the part of the Howard, without anything to help fool themselve into protecting what would happen ?

  24. It is not Peter Lawwell’s fault that the huns are allowed to perpetuate the myth that they are the same club, they’re not, but they are the same huns with the same toxic, ungovernable, and combustible, faction amongst them.

It is not Celtic’s fault that the huns are allowed to perpetuate the myth that they are the same club, again, they’re not.

It is not the obnoxious hun that lives next door fault that the huns are allowed to perpetuate the myth either.

IMO, The fault lies with the authorities (and the media) that allow the crass claim(s) to go unchallenged; and those in authorities too, and those with a duty and obligation, who don’t pressure authority. The fault lies with the authorities, and those in authority, and those who don’t pressure authority, that allow rules to be ignored whilst others are interpreted with acute prejudicial invention to the favour of one, the hun, over all. Those people who do nothing, who look the other way, those three little monkeys, they are all culpable.

The tribulations of Montrose and Livingstone will become an irrelevant grain of sand in the sands of time if the myth, along with the other deceits – regardless of ownership – is not squashed, and the victims list will grow a thousand fold longer than the Liquidated Rangers creditors list if the aforementioned is not aggressively done. If it is not, then any ‘lost jobs’ and any spilt blood associated with allowing, and/or encouraging, the myth will be – to my mind – predominately the direct irresponsible product of the Scottish media and those who populate and pollute the SFA.

I just can’t get myself too worked up over what they call themselves, none of the clubs in Scotland care, after all they all endorsed the 5 way agreement that the huns reneged on.

If they want the name and history of the old Rangers then let them meet the obligations of the old Rangers and pay all their historical debts in full. What they call themselves is, for me, a pathetic side show. In isolation, what they are allowed to call themselves hardly registers on the cheat-o-meter compared to what else has gone on, but when you step back and look at the big picture, where the ‘name’ fits in the big tapestry of deceit, then it is just one more slime perpetrated on the rest of Scottish football and Scotland . It is the (official) accommodation and promotion, of what I believe to be an illegal club, by callous and biased office holders, with obscene privileges, that winds me up most.

Oh! and the silences and the excuses for the silences.

Oh! and if Celtic is so worried about the health of their supporters… would forfeiting the game be an option…. After all, it’s only a mickey-mouse cup. Amsterdam, kettling, Motherwell, Dundee, FAC.

How to beat the fascists… turn the other cheek, again and again and again, then lie down, belly up, and let them wipe their jackboots on you. They love that.

DEREK McInnes today claimed Aberdeen were “vindicated” by the seven-game ban handed to Celtic’s Aleksandar Tonev.

Bulgarian international Tonev was hammered having been found guilty of racially abusing Aberdeen’s Shaleum Logan.

Right-back Logan starred in Aberdeen’s 1-0 Premiership win over Ross County in Dingwall.

And McInnes today hailed Logan for withstanding the pressure of the case to maintain a high level of performance.

He said: “We feel vindicated that the right decision was made.

“As a club we will always support any abuse for any of our employees.

“We will back them and Shaleum has felt that support from us. We have kept quiet on it and respected the process throughout, even when I have been eager to comment at times in support of my player.

“Shaleum has had good support within the club and from the players in the dressing room.

“Now we can concentrate on talking about football.”
