I’ve no fondness for Stuart McColl but I’m disappointed the wheels have fallen off Motherwell’s bogey this season. Delivering two consecutive second place finishes in a league populated with mostly better finances teams was exceptional. Over the last three years they have lost players instead of paying money they couldn’t afford, otherwise they would almost certainly be challenging at the top of the table.
I like Gordon Strachan. One of the things I like about him is he is almost impossible to get on-message. Talk about manipulating football in order to get the ‘right’ teams in the top division is ludicrous, Gordon knows this, or he wouldn’t have used a word like “manipulate”. On a substantive note, I think he’s wrong on this point.
The game changed when Rangers were liquidated, and it changed again when Hearts and Hibs were relegated. Fewer people buy tickets as there is not genuine competition for the league title, but some things we can do without.
Scottish football survived without the ticket money these clubs brought them, and the country’s streets, pubs and A&E departments have benefited from not having to cope with the sheer hassle we used to put up with.
I’ve enjoyed our four lower tier-only games this season, they were atmospheric and entertaining. If this was our future, I’d bite your hand off for it before I’d want to go back to the old ways.
Celtic, Motherwell, Aberdeen and the rest are defined on their own merits, and many of us are enjoying our football.

In mentioning the Supporters Forum on CQN a couple of days back I mentioned the current Resolution by CST to address your points.
I repeated it yesterday I think.
That in itself is part of the problem that information that is put out is not read or digested.
The review which Celtic will undertake will no doubt have to cover not just your question but the means by which information is put out without the medium being viewed as Pravda.
IMO a better question for last night would have been
Why did the Celtic board accept the 5 way agreement
That would have cleared up all the related questions such as where’s the statement about the new club
So, let me get this right, don’t tell the truth or, the Rangers fans will hit us?
Is that correct?
Dear, dear, dear.
No wonder the Celtic supporters are sh#t on from almost every angle.
What happened to the Zulu-charging attack from the Celtic end in 1980?
Such a spineless club from top to bottom – maybe needs a skelping from the Rangers players on the pitch – just to serve as a wake up call.
MARSPAPA
I said in a mail to a fellow poster on here less than an hour ago exactly what Cowiebhoy stated
That the time to make the point they were a new club was when they were formed. Sadly that ship has sailed.
I don’t think we were complicit in keeping them alive but I do believe that we decided not to be seen to block their re-application.
If that is true,I understand the club’s reasoning.
Just.
We would have been branded as ringleaders in a witch-hunt. Regardless of truth or justice,or even the bloody rules of the game and the laws of the land.
Please don’t ever turn your back on Celtic, mate. Being a Celtic supporter includes being pissed off now and again.
I bet your wife and kids piss you off too sometimes, but you would never turn your back on them, would you?
(Bet you wondered where I was going with that one!)

Why do you need it in a press release now that you’ve heard it first hand from an attendee at the meeting?
The press release you seek is very far from a ‘no comment’.
Why don’t all those with the intention of attending thon semi-final wear black armbands?
It’s disappointing Celtic won’t make it clear we believe they are a new club. It is a decision we will regret the moment the whistles sounds against them in January.
Personally, I am phlegmatic. Deep down, every Sevco fan I know knows they are a new club. They know full well what liquidation means.
Their punishment is that they have to walk around for the rest of their lives denying something they know to be true. Reminders will be everywhere, visible in every game they play as opposition fans will make clear.
When you think about it, that’s quite a deep and psychological blow, and a huge burden to bear.
In addition, something else will soon become clear. The good old days are – for them – gone forever. They could only compete against us by destroying themselves. I really believe it will take years maybe even decades before they are able to match us in spending power and stature – if at all.
Their delusion only increases the burden they carry on a fairly miserable journey…
So what type of statement will we be making when the time comes to play them at home?
Will it be a statement similar to the DD one? And we can then all sit at the back of the bus as normal service is resumed.

Mrs S of T launched into a tirade re the crisis, 40% unemployment, food banks, feeding stations and a ” pezzo di lardo ” advertising cat food ..
I fear I have not heard the last of it.
Quick question to anybody that ever looks at other SPL clubs fans forums. Are they filled with demands of their board to make a statement regarding the status of The Rangers Football Club Ltd? If not, why should we be any different?
Evening all from a wine soaked Melbourne Cup day.
Why don’t we treat the upcoming fixture with the normal sense of urgency for this competition and send out a second string squad. If we are still in the EL at this point then that should be our focus.

Very good point. I do think with some cash and new manager they could be competing sooner.
The same people who refused to take action against the dead club when they abused and assaulted Celtic staff and supporters alike inside Celtic Park are now telling us they care about the ramifications of a statement of fact. They are playing with fear and trying to heard us to the back of the buss where they believe we belong, they played the same card on resolution 12 and I’m now seeing a pattern I’m no happy with.

How many Mike Ashley emergency loans will it take to make sure this Semi final takes place? Could Celtic be getting another “bye” this season?
This is exactly what this blog should be focusing on.Instead it has more wailing than a Muslim funeral.Their cash will run out again before December. What then?Another loan?.Put up against what?.Auchenhowie?.For what, another 2 months? The original £2 million then due to be paid back. With what?.An endless stream of debt and misery in front of the huns.Ashley owning everything for nothing. The frothing hordes powerless and even looking more stupid. This is what we have to look forward to,but instead we indulge in a orgy of self flagellation.Celtic fans eh.

===========================================================
The press release would not be to officially let me know Celtic’s position on the issue is.
If such a press release was issued and published by the media, it at least sends a signal if nothing else that Celtic believe them to be a new club and also that they believe their fans are so despicable that there is no telling what they might do if Celtic were to refer to them as a new club.

PL mentioned resolution 12 last night and pretty much said that they had tried but didn’t get anywhere with it ?
Is that the case ?
Four green fields.
I made the same points late last night. This is not a Celtic issue. It’s not even a Scottish football issue. It is a Scottish society issue. Part of that society lives in fear of telling the truth because of fear of backlash encouraged by parts of the Scottish media.
All the evidence of Rangers deceit is available to anyone who wants to look at it. It’s been posted hard copy to various news outlets. The SFA have, the SPFL have it and it’s being ignored.
There is no question Rangers have lied since 1999 but it is acceptable because of the fear of highlighting the truth.
Somebody said Celtic should make a statement about why they are afraid to make a statement.
Well they did in effect last night but will the big issue that the fear statement raises be picked up by main stream media or government and questions asked why a business and the community it represents has to tip toe throw the effing tulips?
It might be on Celtic blogs bit main stream?
Pigs might fly.
Four green fields.
Re Res12 scroll back and you will get what Paul reported on Twitter.
From KDS respected poster. Re Diarra deal not done yet. BUT
This could happen.
Diarra is unfit just now, will take about 6-8 weeks to get him match fit. We were not happy with a 6 month deal (Diarra wanted this) as we would spend 2 months getting him fit for him to leave in summer.
Now there is talk of a 1 year extension I reckon it will be concluded soon.
Morning All.
Can I just thank everyone who sent me greetings and felicitations yesterday.
That was greatly appreciated and, to be honest, a little overwhelming as I am not the most exuberant celebrant of my own birthday and never have been.
So Thank you.
I have read back re the posts on the meeting last night, what was discussed and so on, and I also read WC’s comments which I had not seen until about half an hour ago.
I have some thoughts of my own but will have to try and articulate them later.
Suffice to say there is an old adage which goes that the first casualty in war is always truth and ultimately there is always a price to pay for the violence of silence.
Anyway ….. Laters.

Every club lost. There’s the trickle down. Clubs that should have been in Europe weren’t. Clubs that should have received more prize money didn’t.
The problem in Scotland is that the Governing body that should be making the pronouncements, making the need (or lack of) for club statements a non-issue, is in the thrall of the team in question.
Remember Turnbull Hutton had his personal and grounds safety threatened. However when was the last time you randomly saw somebody on the street you could identify as a Raith Rovers fan? It’s not so difficult if your’e looking for one of us. I completely understand the clubs stance on this. That it should be this way is despicable in this day and age.

fgf,
That’s big news to me, unless he is admitting he and the board do not want to take it any further.
Auldheid and BRTH have been in a lot more contact with them and I’m sure will be as surprised as me about this.
Auldheid,
What’s your take ?
neil canamalar lennon hunskelper extrordinaire
Maybe just the way it came across .
canamalar-Given what’s been said (or not said) the last 3 years, and the severe lack of intelligence at the SFA,Celtic were probably the main architects of the 5 Way Agreement
fgf,
He is an expert in how he comes across, so I’m taking this as a heads up, thank you.

‘As long as we know that’s all that matters’
####
Sorry, but that’s nonsense.
It’s the equivalent of the huns saying ‘so long as we think it’s the same club, it’s the same club’.
If the football authorities are treating them as the same club, and Celtic don’t publicly and unequivocally disassociate themselves from that position, then they are endorsing it.
#####
Unfortunately, Ernie, there’s no ‘if’ about it.

25/05/67, European Champion Clubs’ Cup final
Celtic’s greatest 90 minutes were when Jock Stein’s ‘Lisbon Lions’ came from behind to become the first British team to lift European club football’s biggest prize in 1967. Sandro Mazzola gave Inter an early lead with a seventh-minute penalty at the Estádio Nacional in the Portuguese capital, but Tommy Gemmell equalised on 63 minutes and, with six minutes remaining, relentless Hoops pressure paid off, Stevie Chalmers stabbing home the winner. Celtic had landed the European Cup at the first time of asking and Stein said afterwards: “We did it by playing football. Pure, beautiful, inventive football.”
Best of British again
Celtic FC 2-1 Leeds United AFC
15/04/70, European Champion Clubs’ Cup semi-final second leg
Celtic took a 1-0 advantage into the second leg of the ‘Battle of Britain’, with a UEFA-competition-record crowd of 136,505 watching Billy Bremner level the tie after 11 minutes. However, two minutes after the restart, John Hughes equalised on the night and minutes later Bobby Murdoch added a second to give the Hoops a 3-1 aggregate victory over Don Revie’s side. In so doing, Celtic became the first British club to reach two European Cup finals, although Stein’s men ultimately lost to Feyenoord in the decider. Jimmy Johnstone, subsequently voted Celtic’s best ever player, was the key man over the two legs and years later his marker Terry Cooper reflected: “I still have nightmares. I reckon I had good anticipation, but I could do nothing to take the ball off Johnstone.”

European force once more
Boavista FC 0-1 Celtic FC
24/04/03 UEFA Cup semi-final second leg
Having missed a first-leg penalty, Henrik Larsson made amends with the only goal of a scrappy encounter 12 minutes from time in Porto to hand Celtic a 2-1 aggregate win and ensure they progressed to their first European final since 1970. The Seville showpiece would end in disappointment, with José Mourinho’s FC Porto team eventually prevailing 3-2 after extra time, yet having beaten the likes of Liverpool FC, VfB Stuttgart and RC Celta de Vigo en route to Spain, Celtic – under Martin O’Neill – had announced themselves as a force to be reckoned with in Europe once again.
Last 16 for first time
Celtic FC 1-0 Manchester United FC
21/11/06, UEFA Champions League group stage
For late drama, few games could match this one. United had dominated possession without turning it into goals when Shunsuke Nakamura curled a free-kick past Edwin van der Sar with ten minutes left. Sir Alex Ferguson’s charges might have equalised in the final minute when they were awarded a penalty, but Artur Boruc saved Louis Saha’s effort, meaning that Celtic – under Ferguson’s former United protege Gordon Strachan – advanced to the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League for the first time. “It is the best result of my career,” captain Neil Lennon told UEFA.com that night. “Shunsuke’s free-kick was world class. This means everything to me.”

Tony Watt after scoring against Barcelona
Anniversary special
Celtic FC 2-1 FC Barcelona
07/11/12, UEFA Champions League group stage
Celebrating Celtic’s 125th anniversary on the eve of the game, manager Lennon felt that “something special” could be in the air. Yet with his team having lost to an injury-time Jordi Alba goal in the corresponding fixture at Camp Nou, few expected Celtic to win, especially without striker Gary Hooper and skipper Scott Brown. However, Victor Wanyama’s towering first-half header and substitute Tony Watt’s composed finish seven minutes from time earned Celtic one of their most memorable European victories and reduced the watching Rod Stewart to tears. “They will go down in the history books of the club as the team that beat probably the best team in the world,” said an equally emotional Lennon.

This could be the longest shot ever! I’ll be in Helsinki on Thursday for the game v Astra GTI. My brother who lives there, not being a football fan has suggested I try Molly Malone’s or O’Malley’s for the match. Anyone out there with an advance on that? Nothing quite like watching the Bhoys in a foreign country, always provides the opportunity to educate our foreign friends! As I said, long shot, but any ideas will be appreciated!!
