Foregone conclusion territory

1955

I don’t know about you but practically every football thought I have at the moment is connected to where we go next. The small matter of winning the league title has slipped into ‘foregone conclusion’ territory, which is always dangerous.

The players will be no different from the rest of us, but they will have more on their minds. A change of manager is likely to mean a new system, and new squad requirements. They need to focus on making the best of the next five games. One thing that has been reassuring this week is Ronny Deila’s comments. His professional pride is clear; he’ll apply himself fully to the task in hand until the end of the season.

Eyes on the task of winning the league, as soon as possible.

If your going to be obtuse there’s no point in discussing matters further

For the past year you’ve joyed in telling the world how much of an idiot Ronnie was. Now that he speaks out in subjection to his paymasters… all of a sudden he is no longer an idiot.

Nothing to do with having a lousy coach and shitty results then.

    – Yip, Celtic are not in the top 5000 companies in the UK, although we do slip into the top 500 in Scotland, based on turnover.

I remind folk periodically on here that we enjoy the thoughts and insights of a number of posters who are currently/ have recently been leaders of businesses considerably larger than Celtic.

Equally, it’s fair to observe that the role of CEO at Celtic is considerably more complex and demanding than that of an equivalent sized company in a mainstream market, albeit the current incumbent could take steps to make it less demanding.

Since taking the manager’s job at Preston NE in 1998, David Moyes has managed a senior team in 845 matches, an extraordinary number and greatly more than any current or previous candidate Celtic manager. Only 3 managers have won more EPL games than Moyes.

Europe-wise, he took Everton to the last 16 of the UEFA Cup, beaten on penalties by Fiorentina.

He took Manchester United to the last 16 of the Champions League in 2013/14, losing to Bayern Munich. His team played 10 UCL matches that season, 5 wins, 3draws, 2 defeats.

And you can add to that 40 odd games in La Liga managing Real Sociedad, including beating European Champions Barcelona.

I’d say, on balance, he’s a fairly experienced fella. Wouldn’t you?

He took Man Utd to the Quarter Finals, having beaten Olympiakos in the last 16.

    No,Kit.

I didn`t call him an idiot. Nor would I.

I said and certainly implied he was incompetent as a coach.

I said he was a failure as a coach.

    Because he was.

Never did I suggest he was anything other than genuine.

    BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on 24TH APRIL 2016 1:14 PM

In this,PL’s bonus is stated as £417,787

    Thanks, Bobby.

Now. That`s bonus. not salary ?

    Not salary including bonus ?

Well,he does earn well . And in view of the last two years of what I would consider to be comparative failue , I certainly do not think he deserved such a bonus.

Bonus only. His total take for the year was over £999k.

    Yet again.

    Not his highest,btw.

  15. macjay:

So you have my apologies, however, in your words, since whenever he was incompetent, you gave his philosophy, his ideas, his words nor credence, nor regard, nor respect. Now he’s gone he’s become St Paul in your eyes. At what point in time did he all of a sudden become competent?

    In your opinion of course.

    Thanks again.

    Salary O.K.

Bonus probably turnover related and these are aspects I wouldn`t have a clue about , but I shouldn`t think that bonuses would be appropriate for the last couple of years.

However ,did he not donate his bonus one year?

Bobby. You probably get where I`m coming from.

Celtic is a multi million pound organisation.

No way can it be a one man band.

And yet , he is the perennial scapegoat.

    I don`t think that`s fair.

Of course he will have his share of responsibility , but not carry the whole can.

  21. Favourite Uncle, all the best people are:-)

Just read back, interesting views on our next manager.

Moyes would be great, Clarke, yes, several others would do nicely.

But when do we ever know what the club is going to do next?

How about John Collins? (Not putting him forward as my choice, just that he is already in place, cheapish)

Or someone we all have to go and google?

My bet is on the google option.
