Forrest, Christie and Turnbull

962

James Forrest’s injury in September happened three days before Jeremie Frimpong’s best performance of the season, in the home win against Hibs.  I remember using the MVP acronym for Jeremie at the time.  Team form until that point was patchy: wins with alarming defensive performances and an unmitigated disaster against Ferencvaros.  The team shape was clearly wrong and pushing Jeremie forward in James absence seemed logical.

It was the first of many changes I wanted to see, each followed by a realisation that we were groping around in the darkness, until Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull became the central points of a midfield diamond.  Having (hopefully) fixed the fundamental tactical problem, James return to full training offers Neil Lennon the flexibility he is denied on the right and enhances his option in the middle.

Ryan Christie is well short of his best form in a Celtic shirt but all of those best performances came when he played through the middle.  He can cover for James and offer options on the right while giving the manager a different option when he wants to swap out David Turnbull in the 10 position.

  1. Calums loss of form coincided with most of the team. Thats why we thought that there was some other reason behind the poor run of performances. Our last few games were much better but I sense there is an undercurrent of disatisfaction among the players and coaching staff. I haven’t got the knowledge of what started it but the way it played out with the manager throwing players under the bus. I think COVID is also behind some of the issues.

Here’s hoping that the Dubai trip has mended some bridges and we can at least improve our performances and at least close on Sevco, although a collapse by them is required

I visited Cong (the Quiet man setting) in 2005 when my brother in law was getting married at nearby Ashford Castle.

Nearing the height of the Celtic Tiger boom, that weekend cost me an arm and a leg but the biggest mistake was sleeping through breakfast. 2 club sandwiches and a pot of tea set me back €45!

PS drove hire car from Knock to Galway on the N17 but couldn’t think of any relevant song to sing😉

*when I was a wee bhoy my mother would take me tae all the musicals, Oklahoma, Carousel starring the son of a Johnstone tool maker, Annie Get Your Gun and Calamity Jane etc, she even took me up tae the Alhambra for the fabulous Half Past Eight/Five Past Eight summer shows especially when my da was up in Dounreay, and in the winter the Pantomimes.

When Singing in the Rain came out I was dying tae see it. It comes tae the wee town of Alexandria eventually where our 2 local Picture Halls were, one Monday night my da comes hame fae work and tells me tae get dressed as we’re going tae the pitchers as he called it. Pitchers on a school night NEVER happened.

Anyway after a wee while I realise there’s nae Gene Kelly tae be seen, awe naw this isnae Singing in the Rain

When we got back hame I started tae greet, “mammy he told me he was taking me tae Singing in the Rain” which happened tae be on in the other picture hall in town.

“Naw I didnae” he replied “I said the pictures, anyway it was raining in it and they sung the Wild Colonial Boy”. Aye it was the Quiet Man he had taken me tae, having spent his early summers out in Connemara he was dying tae see it, my mother favoured Singing in the Rain so rather than go himself he dragged me along. Appreciate it now. BTW she took me tae the latter at the end of that week.

I have been in Chong a couple of times as both Mrs TT and myself have a Clifden background so went tae see it while visiting there also The Quiet Man Bridge between Maam Cross and Oughterard.

We took the drive fae Knock tae Clifden on the day John Collins and Paul McStay helped gub deidco at hades, enroute we played 20 Favourite Rebel Songs in the rental car.

  3. I think if Steve Clarke was our coach we would have a better set up that would help our CB’s and GK.

Not saying i want him as coach .

CalMac came on a ton as did Christie and a few others under BR,just hate the way he left.

  4. MadMitch

Not sure we as a support are good at judging players — particularly CBs.

    ‐—————————————————————————

I agree with you 100% and in your case you can extend that to include midfield players.🙂

Celtic are in talks with Leicester City to sign centre-back Filip Benkovic.

He’s not part of Leicester’s short-term plans. They’ll listen to loan offers and would even sell for the right price.

Celtic would prefer a loan deal, with an option to buy.

Latest Huddle podcast is a good listen with Celtic by numbers of this parish and Juco James. Quite damning of player decision making and NL’s approach in 2nd half, not just before the red card.

%%==Damning only in that junci james has an agenda against Celtic.

He tried to get our analysis team into an open debate which would have been good for the attention seeking agenda riven prick.==%%

Is anyone doing similar analysis of our performances at the club and are the coaching staff listening with DD/PL taking note?

    No.cbn has integrity.the baseball tit

The club do all analysis poss

It was the same proven analysis that takes brendans stats and improved them.

But keeo farting the mantra juco james is getting ignored.its intentional.

Surely if fan media can highlight this all season then our professional football club has resources who can do same and address

    it.

    == Cbn is a fan.

Kuvo not- still out tho he has a lot of celtic fans liking him==

I know the answer…..so so frustrating to watch 10iar slip away due to poor coaching/tactical management and lack of responsibility from PL/DD to address the root cause.

==Poor us it would have been so different if we listened to jucijames.another lookin at the stage but not on it==

The whole thing is up in the air until we find out whether or not we start next season with a new manager,

we all know the league is gone,

some may find that hard to admit but its gone,

if we go again with Neil next season then yeah speculation about who we should bring in and who should go is perfectly valid,

but that would almost certainly mean no changes anywhere other than the playing staff,

in which case I’m sure many of us would be horrified anticipating a rerun of another disaster of a season,

still, without speculation suppose this blog would be dead between games.

  8. Our priority this window should be getting contract extensions for Ntcham, Christie, Ajer and Eddie – even if only 12 months. Otherwise we should be accepting any reasonable offers for them in this window.

Benkovic won’t change our season but in fairness, at this stage, Messi wouldn’t change our season. We’re finishing second.

The priority should be next season and the summer CL qualifiers. Get the manager, get the transfer kitty and start rebuilding now.

P67 is doing a good impression of the musicians that kept playing while the titanic sank – except there’s nothing noble about ignoring the huge problems at our Club.

  9. Benkovic .

Scouts must have been working overtime.

Declan Gallagher or Stuart Findlay would be better options

Lot of very good podcasts across the Celtic sphere that seemed to have overtaken the blogs for relevance and reach. Be interested to see how they evolve and grow.

Looks like we’re getting FB back on loan.Considering how much football he’s played since leaving us.

    He’ll be fit,right 🤔

Coming next is young paddy who was good for us 3years ago.

I really can see you blog name is so accurate. CalMac is an astonishig player who works his ass off. He needs a break, hasn’t had one for over 2years. Paul McStay was a real class act, but the team he was in was Raphael.

I’m not making a comparison, but CalMac is not used properly = = = the problem is with Lenny, not him.

So FFS give the guy a break and get back to counting your fingers.

Imagine working for Celtic, full time scout, £30k pa and all travelling expenses. Job detail….jet around the world taking in football matches and advising those that need to know, players at reasonable prices that would do a job for us.

I’d bet my LIFE that ANY person who posts on this site could do that job BETTER than anyone at the club now. The salary I’ve put up would suit most of us and would be cheaper than what it costs us now, no matter how we scout players
