Forster proves a wiser choice last year than Sandomierski

982

News that Fraser Forster has signed a long term contract with Celtic, who will pay Newcastle United £2m for his services, adds some welcome stability ahead of the Champions League qualifiers.  Buying a new, first-choice, keeper is fraught with the kind of difficulties Neil Lennon would rather avoid.

Last summer we looked at Croatian international Stipe Pletikosa, who performed at the European Championships, but he failed to impress during his trial period at Celtic, including a poor performance against Wolves at Celtic Park.

Last year we also looked at Polish cap, Gregorz Sandomierski, who subsequently went to Belgian club racing Genk for €3m, but he failed to make a competitive appearance for Genk and was shipped back to Poland on loan. By comparison, Forster, who turned 24 on St Patrick’s Day, cemented his place with the champions.

Last year Celtic concluded a provisional deal with Newcastle to sign Fraser on a permanent deal this summer but although player and club were both keen to do business, negotiations took until the end of the players’ summer break, perhaps reflecting a tightening of Celtic’s finances ahead of what could be a period of financial uncertainty in the Scottish game.

  1. An articulate and principled statement from Stranraer FC.

For any Chairmen thinking of going back on their publicly pronounced position

“Where there has been a fraudulent misrep, the innocent party is entitled to rescind the contract and claim damages. The damages that are awarded are not based on contractual principles but the damages available in the tort of deceit. There is thus no requirement that the damages are foreseeable:”

Hearts , Hibs, Aberdeen, St Mirren, St Johnstone, Dundee Utd , ICT, and Motherwell have all made public statements which confirmed they would NOT vote Rangers into the SPL. The fact that they did so induced their supporters to enter into a contract with their clubs by purchasing a season ticket.

They will leave themselves open to a legal challenge for damages, and will not be able to hide behind a “secret ballot ” if questioned in a court of law .

I suggest all clubs supporters make this very clear to their Chairman before tomorrow. They should each and every one of them publicly confirm they will not be changing their stance, and will not accept a secret ballot

What we may well be seeing is a softening up process. Current sentiment would see Rangers forced to start in SFL 3 . This latest “scoop” may well be an attempt to force an SFL 1 start by attempting to scare that their is a real possibility of New Club in the SPL

Traynor and Doncaster must be thwarted . They will destroy trust for all time between clubs and fans If there is any truth in this latest propaganda

Have you let the board of Celtic know of your fears and concerns and if so what was their response??

Did you ever consider that the board of Celtic may be in possession of information that you are not in possession of?

We are letting down all the other clubs and Scottish football!! The other clubs seem to be coping perfectly well without our PUBLIC input, there is no need for Celtic to try to control the running of these other clubs. They will decide for or against the cabal and by their deeds we shall know them.

neganon I have read here that the representatives of Celtic supporters organisations have been in consultation the same way that other clubs have. The single difference, so far, is the public announcements. Have you written or communicated directly with Celtic on this matter.

Hypothetical question neganon, if Celtic went public, and that would escalate, if it gave one deluded orc a moment of madness where they would go out and hurt an innocent man , all because you wanted the PLC to lead the death march, would you think it was worth it. No I am not a coward but I wouldn’t want to see any other mans brother , father or son damaged when there is no need to provoke the evil that is in some of the huns mental spectrum. Hell, football itself is not worth that. I personally don’t need Celtic PLC to be glory hunters or feed the bares, I fully expect that they will be doing everything they can to ensure sporting integrity and the correct result for Scottish Football, away from prying eyes and ears. But then I think well of Celtic as a club and family. I could be wrong.

  7. neganon2 – this blog was set up to challenge ‘lazy journalism’. All your posts seem to be are lazy blog – uninformed, unsubstantiated scattergun remarks. I dont like reading posters criticising other posters but, i woke up in a good mood this morning, and your post has fair scunnered me.

‘Letting down Scottish football’. Total claptrap.

I will make sure that i bypass all other of your posts today and, if i can, from this point forward, and try to concentrate on those posts that at least try to make some sort of contribution to the debate

  8. Starry – this is not about controlling the agenda of other clubs. They have openly declared their hand (albiet with a baying pack of supporters at their back). We have not and the ONLY conclusion you can draw is we are supportive of the hun cause here – as ever for financial reasons.

All this nonesense about being worried about what the press will say – they will do as they have always done – and thats EXACLTY the reason why Celtic should be vocal.

We are told that Celtic didnt know anything about the “deal” on offer to SFL clubs today. And yet they still say nothing? Why?

  9. Quick thought on ‘the game losing £16m’ if/when der orkenkind are made to apply for a place in the 3rd division…

Tabloid hacks are currently stating that the game, presumably as a whole, will lose £16m in the ever increasingly likely event that SevcoFC are placed in the 3rd division as opposed to the SPL or SFL 1, yes?

Well, let’s have a quick look at that:

Sevco FC, with no history and playing in a lower league, will, presumably, charge lower league ticket prices of their fans, right? In season 1 alone, and assuming they sell around 30,000 STs, that’s a ‘loss to the game’ of over £10m. Season 2: same/similar. Season 3: ditto.

In the three seasons, at least, that it takes for der orkenkind to climb the three divisions, they will make a comparative deficit of at least £30m from gate money alone. Chuck in an additional £10-20m from corpy/merchandising/other stuff and we’re looking at possibly £50m.

Which suggests that whilst £16m from ‘the game’ is lost, all of that amount, and then another £30-odd million, will be lost from Sevco FC.

Logically, if the game, as a whole loses £16m, but Rangers lose around £50m, are the tabloid hacks suggesting that the rest of the game will actually benefit to the tune of around £34m over three years?

Or are they just making it up?

  10. I am NL in NZ Tauranga on

neganon2 no way Celtic PLC are supportive of sevco. end of. The Sun comes up , taxes increase and Celtic PLC are not supportive of sevco.

  11. Traynor is making it up as he goes along. There is palpable panic at The Record over their position. They have backed the wrong horse in a 2 horse race.

Traynor has had his fingers all over many of the campaigns to discredit Celtic over many years. He has been a sycophant to Murray and an unpaid character assassin on anyone who Murray deemed as a threat

He is incapable of writing without threats . He is as discredited as Murray, Ogilvie and Doncaster

Scottish Football will be a much better place without his corrosive influence

Anyone buying his appalling rag is keeping him in position . Fortunately sales figures show that more and more are walking away

The club have spoken to various fan groups. I think 2 statements have a clear indication of The Clubs feeling, CSA statement & GB renewing season books.

The situation over the exhun debacle has changed almost daily for the past 4 months, i think we would have looked foolish to publicly comment any/every time the situation changed.

As my mum always says, ” talk all day & say nothing “. :-))

  13. The club has only ever stated that they would do what is best for the club!

However what is best for the club and what the supporters want and is best for the integrity of the game are two totally different things!

neganon I am not a board apologist ok . If the board were ‘that’ different from Celtic fans then our club would have gone the sevco route long time ago. They may have different ways of doing things but the chance to be part of history and the demise of the hun will be every bit as fun for them as it is to use when we read the daily sevco monty towers sketch. Keep the faith.

  16. I honestly can’t see the SPL chairmen going back on their word now, there’s too many SFL clubs coming out saying a newco must start at the bottom and if these chairmen change their mind it makes them look as if they don’t care about any other team apart from the big 2.

The congestion charge was meant to get rid of all of the traffic problems in London and, to be fair, at first, I did notice a difference. Now, however, it is as bad as ever though the amount of roadworks in readiness for the Olympics has been a major factor in that. They are all gone (or going) now…only to be replaced by Olympic Games only lanes. So plus ca change. Astoundingly, London cab drivers are all moaning about this….no, really they are.

The congestion charge definition. Far too many people fighting to get on to a Northern line train at the same time.

    Neganon2,

If Celtic make a statement that says “no to newco” – cue a load of guff from Traynor and crew about Celtic briefing against Newco etc.

Then we will get media monkeys stuffing microphones in the faces of Celtic players and Neil Lennon looking for something they can misquote and twist to suit their agenda.

Then we will get some other nutters sticking a few more bombs and bullets in the post.

I assure you – that’s what will happen. Now what would that scenario achieve to Celtics benefit – and how does that ensure the safety of our players, manager and fans in a situation that is nothing to do with them?

  23. I am NL in NZ Tauranga on

Kevjungle naw but they let MON , WGS and now Neil Lennon have a go at extracting the urine. Sevco is the benchmark. Who won in the end club12 , eleven players with MSM and MIB or Celtic Football Club.

  26. NL and NZ – to not act out of fear is I am afraid cowardly. Thats what they want – to intimidate etc – no chance my friend – that should never be a consideration.

Tim Malone – how about the Celtic Support?

GsCbhoy – you dont like criticising other posters but………the key thing here is that Celtic’s continued silence looks like complicity (whether Celtic like that or not). The support deserve an clear statement of intent from the club. I ask again – why arent they doing this?
