Four games stand between Celtic and more history

332

‘The magic of the Cup’ was perhaps missing as Celtic eased Brechin City out of the competition on Saturday but the occasion provided Brendan Rodgers with the perfect opportunity to exercise limbs in competitive action for the first time in three weeks.

Four games now stand between Celtic and a second consecutive treble, at least one of which will be at home (to Partick Thistle), with two at neutral Hampden, should we get there. Celtic have won six on the bounce at Hampden since Tom Rogic’s penalty missed the target in the Scottish Cup semi-final of 2016. Whatever mental block we had at the place before Brendan arrived, it is well and truly sorted now.

More about Thistle tomorrow. They may be second bottom of the league but there are reasons to believe tomorrow’s game at Firhill will not be straightforward.

It occurs to me that you and I have talked about making history so often in recently.  These truly are incredible times.

I see Chris McCart has been busy with plans for a ‘colts’ team to enter the bottom tier of Scottish football.  Not sure how this would workout but I just hope the hoards of conservatives (small c) in our game don’t block an innovative change without just cause.

  1. Noticed the Deloitte Money League is out… Top 20.

Man United stay at number one… the reason? Winning the Europa Cup.

Interesting Leicester City in there, originally made it due to winning the FAPL, still there due to UCL Participation. Though are predicted to fall out…

As are Southampton, me thinks a wee wind fall might keep them in there.

Of course we are well out of it, even say £20M for MD and a Euro win will struggle to get over the 150M Euro Revenue to get into the top 30..

Still the top 10 are another planet…

    Hail Hail

Re -Your grandfather’s cafe on Maryhill Rd -between Hopehill Rd and Abington St .

I asked my Dad — no memory of it .. That done he waxed lyrical re the Abington Bar being a ” a bad place ” with a ” bad news ” him and her pair on the corner – he was an illegal bookie / she was a moneylender . Next groove in his brain featured words re the social damage done to that area by the Arnold Clark showrooms -” typical Glasgow Council — cars given more importance than people ” . That done he moved on to he and I going to PTFC 3 -Celtic 1 in November 59 and him opining -” that might have been the worst Celtic team in my lifetime “.

  3. Morning all, reports of an unsettled Dembele are worrying. We should be trying to hold on to him at least until we qualify for next season’s CL.

  4. There was another excellent post yesterday at the beginning of the new thread, thought it was kinda lost in the politicking and name calling that came in it’s wake. I know we’ve done forgiveness to death but thought this was worth a re-post…

    CLOGHER CELT @ 1:23 PM – 22ND JANUARY 2018 ,

Thanks Auldheid and others for the thoughtful posts on the topic of Forgiveness.

I enjoyed reading the paper you posted yesterday.

‘Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.’

Essentially, I believe to deny forgiveness or put conditions on forgiveness is really counterproductive. As we become more aware, it becomes clear that the denial of forgiveness, however difficult, ultimately means that the wrongdoing of the other continues to cause us harm.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean liking someone or letting them do whatever they like. It’s essentially a means of letting go of the hurt that they caused. That pain is corrosive and will affect all of my personal and professional life, if I don’t find a way to let go. It will make me bitter and ultimately make me spiritually, emotionally and physical sick.

Additionally as the Lord’s Prayer states the individual does not experience the full benefit of God’s loving forgiveness until he/she forgives the trespasses of others.

A practical way to a healthy life really.

It’s about Unconditional Love for me. Love is a ‘State of Being’. We we are usually ‘blinded’ by the defects of the ego. As these defects and conditions ‘disintegrate’ through a process self awareness and loving forgiveness the individual begins to become ‘fully alive.’

Those defects had combined to create an illusion, the individual was never Present and became progressively more isolated. They existed in a dream like state, crippled and angered by regrets/resentments, dominated by projected fears for the future. This person had very little grasp of the opportunities and wonder of life.

As we become aware and begin to ‘empty out’ our defects it becomes apparent that God’s love for us was always unconditional. He/she always forgave us. Like most parent/child relationships, where a parent would forgive almost anything of the child. The kind of unconditional love that a parent has for a child in it’s very first moments of life. No conditions, just an absolute love for that child’s being. Just a heartfelt desire to make the child aware that they are completely loved and safe.

Given the current situation in Scottish Football where there appears to be no satisfactory administrative oversight and where wrongdoing is both historic and current, thoughts of forgiveness are demanding. It’s meant to be demanding of me. It’s part of my journey. The pain of the ongoing situation is really like a wake up call. The call is really an opportunity to evolve away from a harmful self centred divisive cycle.

As St Paul says ‘Love delights in the Truth.’ My challenge is sometimes to evolve beyond the constraints of a very limited egotistical life and accept the changes that life is offering. The pain for me is really in the resistance to those changes or my obsessions that I can change other people, or that I am in control of things. That isn’t my purpose.

My purpose is to become honest with myself and by doing so I evolve towards an experience of unconditional love.I become aware that the harmful regrets and resentments were always a waste of time. I come to appreciate that I was always loved unconditionally but I just couldn’t see it. I then develop the capacity to reflect that love unconditionally upon others.

It also becomes clear that the obsession with cheating and anxieties and stresses related to that are really a huge burden on those involved in the cheating. As insight develops the penny drops that the cheating is really pointless and ultimately causes huge personal pain and cost to everyone involved,at Sevco and elsewhere. I forgive them and leave them with the burden. I am free of the corrosive effects of the toxin.

    I don’t carry it.

If that is contrary to a divisive, greedy, dishonest mantra then perhaps there is a more profound message in Resolution 12 than was initially anticipated.

In effect,in the absence of clarity from the Plc Board I move away from a toxic, harmful activity and I experience much more of the beauty that life has to offer. What other Celtic Supporters decide to do is their own business, wherever we are ‘on the one road’ is valid.

    It will never happen.

Even if it did no one would take any notice.

In any case, what, specifically, is it supposed to achieve?

  6. FASSREIFEN @ 10:25 AM,

I think his heads gone. To me, he wanted away in the Summer, thought he’d done enough in one Season to get his big move.

His stock is falling, if his agent can negotiate a number that’s Celtic is happy with think he’s off…

    What could have been eh?!

    Hail Hail

  7. Chairbhoy, you may well be right. It would leave us with only LG and OE (who is only on loan). Risky with qualification rounds starting so early in summer.

  8. Zenit 5– FC Copenhagen 0

    Friendly in Dubai .

An easy win for Zenit against a team currently 6th in the Danish Superliga … . . Effectively fielded 2 sides – 1 in the first half / another in the second . Both played exactly the same way . Pass and move / diagonal balls to wingers and attacking fullbacks.. Lot of pace and techique . . Look physically strong .Post match stuff saw Mancini stating that the result was irrelevant but he was pleased that his players had played as instructed..

  9. FASSREIFEN @ 10:39 AM,

Yes but judging by Chris Davies comments it’s not looking too good.

Apparently Dembele “hasn’t been unprofessional”… MMMMmmmmmm

Guess we wait and see. The last time we were waiting for the Club to sell a big fee player and getting a quality striker in, was when VvD went and we bought…

    Ciftci…

So no worries over the Qualifiers then;(((((

    Hail Hail

  10. A week to go of a January window with two players already signed, contrast that to the Celtic past? I’d imagine that we’ve bids in for at least two more, if you believe Celtic media, and as its the small window, we’ll have to wait till 31st for this years gazebo player?

Moussa as Celtic fans know ain’t no Morelos but has genuinely interested buyers and Celtic will surely use our ‘sell on skill’ to good effect, when sometime in the future he’ll attract ‘the Mourinho ’s’ again. Form is temporary even for Celtic darlings can’t remember an off form Larsson? mind you Dembele is nowhere near ‘the drive him to the airport myself ‘cliches and certainly not for less than 20M.

49 passes and an opening goal without an opponent’s touch is good even against training cones, the BBC couldn’t miss it most patched it, Celtic fans didn’t and it was a clearly a BR declaration of intent played out in the newly reborn romance of the Scottish cup.

The Cup, sponsored free by the BBC is reborn and much more important in the Sevco years, where any trophy will do, especially when your’e 3st in the big one in Florida.

    And Chairbhoy earlier.

I’ve been travelling so not able to respond/expand but unconditional forgiveness is worth expanding on.

There is another term used in the forgiveness lexicon of “unconditionaly” and for me it is one of the reasons Tims find it so difficult to think in forgiving terms because we run into it all the time.

I’ll come back on it later.

  13. MWD – Thoughts and Prayers for your dad, and all who are close to him.

    Keep it lit fella. HH

    “””””””””””””

HAMILTONTIM – Happy birthday fella, have a guid one.

I know that your trying to do your very best, as you see it, re: the OBAFA thingy, I backed your campaign at the start when I went to George Square and met up with, DOC from on here. I followed the trail for a wee while longer, I joined the Celtic Trust a few years ago, and then, I didn’t renew. Its like this, I know that the CT do, absolutely amazing stuff, but, I don’t get this,……a few years back, PL and Paul McBride QC, and Campbell Corrigan(I think that’s his name?) the typing cop, all of them, summoned the Green Brigade to a meeting at Celtic Park, to discuss sectarian singing at Celtic Park, I’m not sure, but, I think this was sparked off when, on duty cop / off duty SPL referee, Eddie Smith from Hamilton, was the match commander at a European game at CP, and, imho, ES, under Dallas’s instruction, reported sectarian singing, the worst he’d ever heard, he said.

Well, the Green Brigade informed, PL, PMQC, and CC, that they would be attending no summit at CP, as there was no case to answer re: sectarian singing. Well, this prompted a furious reaction from, PL, PMQC, and CC, with CC in particular, claiming that, they were going to smash the Marxist GB, and that, PL, PMQC, and CC were all in agreement that, the OBAFA was the only way forward to deal with sectarian singing.

Now, this is were the confusion for me, kicks in.

Since the above announcement from, PL, PMQC, and CC, the campaign from the fans has been waged against politicians, and yet, despite a handful of, lukewarm at best, statements from, in the main, nameless contributors on the official Celtic website, the sleekit Celtic PLC have rung their hands of this, OBAFA scam, and their most telling involvement in this to date has been their ‘willingness’ to contribute fans detail to the cops.

Now, looking at the big picture, the PLC have played the fans on this, and they’ve used this process, to guage how easy it is to play the fans, and guess what, they used their conclusions on that process to, again, play the fans, with the same club issue, with their £49 Old Firm Same Club Lie ticket stunt.

Its a sad day indeed when, Celtic directors no longer live with the thought that, if we try to be slippery, the cute, wide, streetwise, rebellious, Celtic support will boycott and, we(PLC) will be emptied.

The sad thing is that, the OBAFA was sleekitly conceived in the Celtic PLC boardroom, and, to this day, the Celtic support haven’t landed a glove on the sleekit PLC.

Sending petitions will not bring about the change that is needed.

I believe that, only empty seats will bring the changes needed, ie: the likes of the sleekit Celtic PLC will be financially starved out and, replaced by the likes of Jeanette Findlay etc, folk will ask who has the money to buy DD’s shares, I would contest that, the PLC’s shares would be worth hee haw, if the fans emptied the park, as the only money that goes into the club, comes from the fans, and, emptying the park wouldn’t hurt Celtic, but, it would remove those who do hurt Celtic, the PLC board.

Two years ago, due to the PLC boards pathetic recruitment of RD, when the apparently, deid huns, put us out of the SCSF 2016, Celtic Park fell half empty, the Res:12 case was about to scream from the rooftops and, had Celtic PLC not brought in a manager, who would allow the PLC to, fudge, the same club issue with their sleekit, £49 Old Firm Same Club Lie ticket trick, Celtic would have been heading for freefall, with the park already half empty and thousands more threatening not to renew.

Were would we be today, if, Celtic supporters, were, cute, wide, streetwise, and rebellious, and told Celtic PLC that, they wouldn’t pay £49 for tickets to watch a new club called, Gretna FC, so we won’t be paying it to watch a new club called, Sevco FC ?

My guess is, momentum would have built and, we might possibly be into, the stripping of stolen / cheated trophies territory, that’s just how I see things.

Sorry for the rant, have a great day fella. HH

    …….oot.

  14. Chairbhoy,

    Thanks for the re-post.

  15. The Huns & there weird behaviour ?

Wee story that happened last week that i relayed to our own MWD over the phone a few days ago, it all began with a leak from my kitchen sink which I noticed on the Friday night. Being to late to get a plumber out I waited till Saturday morning

I then took to Google to get a local plumber & found only 1.36 miles away called him up told him the problem I had with the sink & he says he will be out in 45 mins

Sure enough he arrived about an hour later at 9am which was fine, but as I let him in the door I shook his hand & says Hi I’m S****** This is the weird part he replied Hi I’m B***** & I’m a Sevco fan this response made me say to myself “Whit that’s a weird thing to say”So I replied I don’t care mate who you are I just need a plumber my sink is leaking & I need it fixed before I get flooded

This is were it gets even weirder he then goes on to tell me that he had looked up my profile on facebook before he came to my house & seen I was a Celtic fan ,This is when it dawned on me I’ve a real yin here. I could not believe it.

He then started to work on the sink & we began to chat and he was Sevco this Sevco that how they will win the Florida cup showing me pics on his phone etc. . By this time I was having so much fun listening to him & his utter fantasies I decided to have more fun with him

I told him i had pics I had not put on facebook that would really shock him to the core & they were CELTIC photos and did he want to see them as I kept them private for personal reasons

As you can imagine the hun plumb was very eager to see these “pics” of mine which he thought were personal & private

So I took out my phone & showed him pics from last years 50th anniversary in lisbon which BRHT organised

i showed the plumber pics from the dinner we had in the evening , the morning mass we all attended , the trip to the stadium , pics of Tom Rogic Cup final goal we had watched in the pub & some great pics of more than a few CQN luminaries celebrating

By the time I showed him the pics from Fatima & at the same time giving him a running commentary describing the scene & trip he was about ready to explode as his face turned a very peculiar colour

I then thought he had enough punishment for the morning & & put my phone away he couldn’t get out my house quick enough . So fast was his exit that he forgot to charge me his call out fee which we had agreed to prior to him coming out

But I still remain mystified as why I’m paying this guy to do a a job yet he has to look me up on facebook to see what team I support as I said weird hun behaviour but very entertaining for a Saturday morning

    SoT,

    Thanks for your reply.

The last time I was up in that part of the world, I noticed the Clark showroom. it is on the site where my grandfather’s café stood, next door to the barber’s shop.

In earlier days, he used to have a mobile ice cream cart, attached to a bike and went round the neighbourhood in the summer months.

When my father and mother started “walking out”, Guiseppe was very frosty towards my dad.

He reckoned that he was after the business.

That was the reason that my father insisted that my mother gave up the café prior to their wedding, in 1941.

He and his father in law become close buddies and went to Parkhead together.

  18. Thomthetim, South of Tunis, you are bringing back memories of my childhood there. Was brought up in Abington Street , went to St Columba’s Primary and the Arnold Clark Garage sits on top of were my old ma’s shop used to be. PS I knew the bookie you were talking about, crabbit auld bugger!!

Just love your eclectic taste in music, brilliant. Like you , I love music, all sorts with the exception of Folk, but my first love is the Blues, particularly Chicago Blues. I’d love to know what your favourite is, I’m guessing Soul, but I could be wrong.

Keep up the good work and I really liked Jack o’ Diamonds. I have the original Lonnie Donegan version, a bit different.

    All the best
