Fraught preseason, instinct ruling head

657

Really pleased Leigh Griffiths is back in the Scotland squad, it’s just reward for his work this season, although the prospect of having so many Celtic players on international duty in June is an unwelcome one, considering we’ve Champions League qualifiers to prepare for in July.  Preseason is already looking fraught.

I’d convinced myself I wasn’t too bother if newco are promoted this season or not, all the big battles have been won and lost.  I realised differently when I received a text yesterday saying Queens were a goal up.  Your instinct can tell you things your head can’t.

Another season of lower league football will drain them of an additional £10m, which I don’t think they have, but I don’t think they have enough money to complete a season in the top flight either.  It doesn’t matter if the boat sinks in 50m of water or 50km, there would be a deficit in either league.  Viability remains the subject of undocumented fantasy, cannon fodder-dom awaits in the top flight, ignominious avoidance in the lower leagues.

If Mike Ashley cuts them some slack, they will eventually be a top 12 club.  When they are, Celtic will earn an extra £4m from ticket sales and indirect incremental income, enough to make a difference on the field.  Similar income will go to Ibrox, but this isn’t enough to fund a turnaround.  My preference would be to have both Hibs and Hearts back next season but I’m chilled either way.

Very last call for the Ben Nevis Huddle, which takes place on Saturday 13 June in aid of the Celtic Foundation.  If you’re up for it, sign up here…..

I thought the whole idea was that their liquidation helped prove what a generation of Celtic fans suspected all along, the EBT years, HMRC LNS etc, etc.

If Sevco bouncy, bouncy straight into where Rangers perished, we return to a sectarian, deeply racist cesspit, instantly reattached to the beautiful game.

Four million pounds could never cover that perhaps it does in Peter Lawell’s eyes?

I believe Celtic supporters have walked because the game is Scotland including the inception quite possibly fraudulently of a new club through the back door highlighted SFA chicanery, the events of the last three years have done nothing to show otherwise.

It’s now not just ‘the board’ that are hinting to accept Sevco, we’re being spoon fed by our own, that we need them for the money?

Not this Kitty, and Celtic high echelon employees including players should take the pay cut, if it’s suddenly about a business benefit for Celtic.

south of tunis-sounds like good fans getting done over again, thanks for reply.

  3. The ruling on the GASL will drift into the close season , when folks are looking the other way. It seems to me that the game being played here is fairly straightforward.

King wants a TRFC directorship , so he can start to stir for Rangers directors to be placed on the various SFA and SPFL committees; Paul Murray stated this when they got the OK at the EGM.

So the wider play is to get influence and by withholding his money short term and blackmailing the SFA to make him an FPP which will lead to the money tap being turned on ; if the SFA play ball with King then it will be utterly shameful but not unexpected.

I am expecting Rangers to have about 10 loan signings from the EPL and Championship next season ( there are no limits !) which wil lead to a change in the loan rules for the following season.

  6. Here’s an idea Peter might not have thought about yet, why not sell joints at the games, a few clean class A drugs, there’s stacks of profit in them, open a few licenced brothels, sell candles that we can light to our gods in the Kerrydale chapel of the enlightened in hope that our bets come up.

The huns had betting sponsors first, why let them have all the profits, open the brothels before they do, don’t even have to pay the employees a living wage.

    Only joking Peter.

I thought no huns in the league was costing us 10 million a season, who’s dipping the 6?

Their absence cost us £10m a season. Their return will be worth £4m a season.

Simple, really. If you were an accountant like oor Pete you would know that.

  9. The Battered Bunnet on

Football is unpredictable, and few results are nailed on before a ball is kicked. If it wasn’t thus, there would be no Pools coupon and bookies would be broke.

In which circumspect light, Sevco v Hibs is a toss up, both teams being similarly matched. The sense is that Hibs have more flair, but less mettle, apt to play well but fail when the moment comes. See the Scottish Cup semi v Falkirk for example. If ever there was a team you want to play in a cup final, it’s Hibs.

Sevco on the other hand are inconsistent, 5 wins, 4 draws and a loss in their last 10 league games reflecting their form throughout the season, but includes recent wins over both Hearts and Hibs. A nervy draw at home to QoTS yesterday was just enough to progress in the last round, but just enough is good enough in this format, and the closer the game, the more likely the tie will turn on a big moment.

Hibs at their best should win, anything less than their best and they’re beholden to luck and that’s not a comfortable position, least of in Scotland where honestly mistaken referees abound.

I’d also say that the momentum gained by the winner is likely to be pivotal in the final play off against a hapless Motherwell, enough to make them favourites in a match in which touch and go means touching cloth.

If you “can’t see” Sevco qualifying, you’re refusing to look.

    TBB

PS For clarity, my head and my heart are of the same er… mind. Instinct and logic aligned: I would like to see Hibs back, but could live with Motherwell staying up. I neither want nor need Sevco in the top division, or the circus that surrounds it in my life.

Hibernian, I fear, will do what Hibernian always do when they reach a test………fail and miserably too.

It’s curious, but after our delight at them finishing third, it looks like that failure may actually work for them.

Their two games against QoS have enabled the braggarts to remain active and build a wee bit of momentum.

It was funny watching them waste time against Queens. The significance of their situation is lost on them, their support and their cheerleaders in the media.

  12. ………….. and the rich get richer:

Uefa could be set to relax its Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, with president Michel Platini admitting a decision will be made in June.

The rules, which were first implemented in 2011, forbid clubs from spending beyond their means, with significant fines, squad limits and suspensions enforced across the Champions League and Europa League for those guilty of breaching the designated guidelines.

But the Uefa chief has told RTL that Europe’s governing body has agreed to review the agreed boundaries and could well decide to allow a relaxation of the financial controls.

Peter Lawell the six million dollar man?

In his last sound bite many, many months ago he did say we were down by 10million due the death of Rangers ( he didn’t say the last bit )

Maybe they’ve redone the figures, but revenue wise it’s 4m down they are, and I’m now firmly in the “I believe Celtic want Sevco in, camp”

Even accounting for the most diplomatic of diplomatic silences, I see it, as a betrayal of our supporters, and for everything which sporting integrity stands.

‘Circus that surrounds them”…is what you meant to write..Shirley?

I asked on here previously about the number of Celtic fans who actually wanted them back…and someone (can’t remember who) told me that loads of Celtic fans in England wanted them back.

Others pointed to the empty seats at Celtic Park and said…”There’s your answer”.

Others said the empty seats was a protest against Celtic FC for not doing/saying enough to disparage them and to distance ourselves from them.

Do the empty seats at CP indicate either, both or none of these things?

If that mob return to the SPhell then I am pretty sure that the seats will fill for those games anyway. The Murdoch Pound will promote the thing as the “game that we all wanted back” and the “mother of all derbies” (copyright Sky match commentator) and tickets will start circulating to EPL players who have a day off and want to slum it at the quaint fixture – where nobody can understand what the common folk are saying.

But don’t ask for an equal split of the Murdoch money…

TBB, hard to disagree with you on Hibs and ‘Well.

    Hibs’ will blink first…and

After Saturday ‘Well won’t even look them in the eye. They have a huge task trying to motivate players who feel they were cheated against St Mirren.

Watched the highlights of that game and the falling over and histrionics from the St Mirren players was pathetic. Another dignity marked absent affair.

  17. Richie #TeamOscarForever on

We have lost more revenue due to the lack of Saturday 3pm kick-offs than lack of huns.

The above is made-up due to lack of concrete evidence, but I don’t think it’s shite!

  18. !!Bada Bing!! on

richie-agreed ,the EL is obviously a factor in this,i see UEFA are talking about putting the EL on different weeks from CL ,so games can be on a Tue/Wed,fingers crossed.

  19. TBB

    Good summary.

Let’s be honest here, Sevco are up this summer or next. Everyone wants to get used to that fact. If they come up this year so be it. If not it will be the year after.

I gave up a few months ago worrying about them or even thinking much about them.

Hibernian need to keep 11 men on the pitch in both games and they need to protect Scott Allan to let him play. If they fail to do either of these things they are in trouble.

As I read it Motherwell are down. I can’t see Skippy making all that much difference. This is a player who in his prime scored against CL teams and was without a club. Motherwell look doomed to me whoever they play.

I will not lose sleep about Sevco.
