Really pleased Leigh Griffiths is back in the Scotland squad, it’s just reward for his work this season, although the prospect of having so many Celtic players on international duty in June is an unwelcome one, considering we’ve Champions League qualifiers to prepare for in July. Preseason is already looking fraught.
I’d convinced myself I wasn’t too bother if newco are promoted this season or not, all the big battles have been won and lost. I realised differently when I received a text yesterday saying Queens were a goal up. Your instinct can tell you things your head can’t.
Another season of lower league football will drain them of an additional £10m, which I don’t think they have, but I don’t think they have enough money to complete a season in the top flight either. It doesn’t matter if the boat sinks in 50m of water or 50km, there would be a deficit in either league. Viability remains the subject of undocumented fantasy, cannon fodder-dom awaits in the top flight, ignominious avoidance in the lower leagues.
If Mike Ashley cuts them some slack, they will eventually be a top 12 club. When they are, Celtic will earn an extra £4m from ticket sales and indirect incremental income, enough to make a difference on the field. Similar income will go to Ibrox, but this isn’t enough to fund a turnaround. My preference would be to have both Hibs and Hearts back next season but I’m chilled either way.

Without Mike’s influence (NU loanees) Sevco wouldn’t be in the position they are.
He was punished by the SFA for this meddling (7500 smackers) so all is not above board.
Wait until next season when (NOT if…) Sevco are in the Premiership.
Mike will make sure they are at least a top six team (with another half team of loanees), most likely challenging for a UEFA place. He wants to sell those jerseys and other assorted trinkets.

It’s great to see Leigh Back in the Scotland Squad – the ROI game in Dublin is huge, so it doesn’t leave a lot of time for LG to force his way into the team, hopefully he’ll get a chance to prove himself against Qatar. Another Hat-trick will suffice.
I’m agnostic when it comes to the timing of Sevco in the top flight of Scottish Football, a team from Ibrox was always likely to emerge and eventually get there.
My heart says not this year, one, because I had the same feeling of disappointment when QoS failed to get through and secondly, we’re making progress, real, tangible, definitive progress. I’ve got to say much of this progress would not have been achieved with the pressure, distraction and just plain nonsense that the Old Firm Circus inflicted on us.
After saying that my head says…
If they come up this year while in turmoil, with a decimated squad and having to re-build on the hoof, they may not recover for years. If they fail to come up this year, it could well be the reality check they need and give them a Season to get their act together.
