Gangster clubs, brutish fans, identity politics

729

The Daily Record’s political editor today published information obtained from the Scottish Government by a Freedom of Information Request, where Police Scotland note Newco “actively engaged” supporters to break lockdown rules in March this year.

Following Newco’s game with St Mirren on 6 March, Police Scotland received assurances from Newco that they would encourage fans to stay at home.  The Police memo stages, “Whilst assurances were given this did not materialise.”

The Police go on to stage Newco made “numerous statements encouraging celebration, including from the manager (Steven Gerrard).”

“Both the Manager and players actively engaged from within the stadium with fans gathered in disgraceful displays of encouragement, in solid opposition to the public safety issues arising, to their responsibilities given the privileges under which football operates, and to the commitments they had made around public communications.”

The Government should have acted on this information in March.  Football privileges were being actively flouted by one club but it took further incidents this month before Nicola Sturgeon felt it necessary to take on Newco.  This is in stark contrast to her grabbing the mic. when Celtic followed her own rules during their trip to Dubai.

You will see not contrition from Newco.  Instead, they will deflect and distract.  Let them sink in their own sewage.

Gangster clubs operate across Europe.  They stir-up identity sentiment among brutish fans and intimidate politicians who need to fish in the same identity waters.  It takes brave political leadership to stop the rot.

  1. I just hope that someday soon that we get to the bottom of who hacked the biggest dj in Scotland’s Twitter account ( George Bowie- Radio Clyde) at 2am after a Sevco game and Tweeted… That Lenny’s some boy… F**k the Pope… Shout out for Shane Duffy…

As George says himself, it’s a hate crime.

Which team was the best? Connelly should have started in 70? BTW 72 was a good side.

  3. Does anyone else ask themself why the sevs aren’t linked with Ferguson of Aberdeen?

He’s the son and nephew of big names from RFC.

He’s a really good player who will get better and easily play in the EPL and for Scotland.

    The reasons are simple…

    1. The new huns don’t want a red neck by offering weekly HP payments ( Roofe, Itten, Hagi) for him.

2, His dad knows the Sevs don’t have the money.

    3. Celtic see him as the next SB and will try and sign him for £4m.

    4. All his pals are Celtic fans.

Wow, when you’re nailed for anti-catholic, anti-Irish bigotry and racism, wheel out Mark Walters.

  5. Bournemouth were condemned to another season in the Championship today and many Bournemouth fans have taken to Twitter to blame Richard Hughes for their decline.

I think this is the guy Eddie Howe is rumoured to insist on coming to Celtic…

  8. Out of curiosity – is it common for gangsters to be “offering” protection of big houses in affluent areas?

I know that was suggested as a reason for Peter Lawell’s cars being set alight and while I’m not suggesting this is the case I have heard some grim rumours about Bothwell – cars getting burned out due to fall outs with neighbours, people getting their door chapped and told they had to put their house up for sale…

I’m just wondering if Scotland really has become so grim, or maybe I’ve just never been aware…

    =====================================

Scotland in this sense MH has always had a dark underbelly re gangstet control.imo

House targetting is usually the domain of the drug lord imo,we hear regularly bout ‘attacks’ like in Neilston,Milngavie and as you say Bothwell.basically at the bottom of it imo is some sort of turf/protection/druglane/laundry goin on.

Thorntonhall is a changed place over the last 40 years with a lot moving into the ‘persimmon plus’homes, but attacks on property are not unknown. There was an incident around the time Michelle mone was splitting up,car set alight,Many years ago Manus O’Donnell(glesga bissnissman) was found dumped up there as i found out one sunday mornin cyclin..There are many like him livin in the glasgow suburbs.

i think tho the PL attack was just a hun.hopefully we will see him in court.

    keep the faith mate :-)

*wee comment here that came fae home town of one of the bankers involved:

The Fall of the House of Murray

HBOS senior bankers including chief executive of corporate banking Peter Cummings and the late Ian Robertson, managing director of corporate -banking, gave Murray what amounted to an open cheque book.

*Tradamus Lampada FP Peter Cummings was known from his involvement in the community in Dumbarton, where he was brought up in the Peoples Republic of Brucehill where he has contributed a great deal of time and money to charity projects in the area – and a school in Africa – as not a bad person.

And yet he was the only person involved with the Ayrshire rag and bone man’s account to be punished, he was fined £500,000 and banned from working in the City of London by the Financial Services Authority.

In a published report it was made clear that Cummings was the scapegoat who was stitched up by his establishment colleagues to take all of the blame.

He worked in HBOS for 36 years, having started out making tea in the Bank of Scotland in Dumbarton High Street, but he was not one of the establishment elite who look after their own.

Like a lost love or a holy grail – I’ve been searching for it ever since.

I have become a modest expert at buying strats & doing them up before selling them on.

Wherever we vacation here, I will note the pawn shops etc & on a quiet day she knows I’ll be in there trying everything they have.

It’s now time to thin the herd as they say as my search continues.

She’s said ore than once “I wish you’d never sold that bloomin thing, then I might have some room in the house.”

Talking of whom, she is doing ok so far. One minor episode since but the biggest thing is training her to stop being so much of a Mum or Nana & be doing everything for everyone.

Emotional stress is to be avoided, so now I have to concede most discussions early on.

She’s milking it, I tell her.

    Best you & yours

Always felt I would feel the same. Utterly brutal match. Was actually sick on way home, although the converted fishing boat and the booze may have had something to do with it. In Lisbon, however, Fred Colon’s brother assumed us that Franck’s Real are the real huns of Madrid and Athletic the good guys until that Argentinean manager filled his team with Argentinean grade A thugs. Still took another 4 years before I came around to wanting them to win anything but happy today that they’ve scuppered Real’s and Barca’s pomposity.

*When the draw was made we were delighted we had avoided Bayern as well as Ujpest Dosza a side that had knocked us out 2 years previously and we had just beaten the year before that with a victory over there just after their winter break, 2 weeks later we held them to a 1-1 tie even though they outplayed us.

AM we thought would be the easier side and also being Spanish would gives us a good but fair game. However, what we didnae realise was their coach was the infamous Juan Carlos Lorenzo whose Argentinean side had been branded animals by Sir Alf Ramsey after their quarter-final match against England at Wembley 8 years before.

In that first leg side were 4 Argentinians who seemingly were NOT first choice players and 1 Paraguayan who ironically was in the racing club side 7 years before, also only 6 players that night appeared for the second leg.

Now it’s easy to dismiss this by saying the three players ordered off were suspended but IMHO only one of those, Ayala, was a good player, he was sent off for a second yellow, handling the ball which was a new booking offence that season, however his first card was for scything one of our players down.

Several years back Mrs TT and I were in Madrid and on one of the on-off bus tours, we were en-route for the Bernabéu when we passed a sign indicating the Vicente Calderón Stadium, she said “oh look another football ground are you going there next”, 35 year later the anger was still there.

Don’t know if it’s the Irish or Scottish bit in me that holds grudges, or mibbees both, I could NEVER forgive them.

There has been some comment on the blog re the infamous Atletico Madrid game at Celtic Park in 1974. I was close to the field directly opposite the tunnel. In the second half, immediately after Ayala had brutally brought down Jinky, then Harry Hood, some of the crowd around me had had enough. Several of them made to climb onto the track to confront Ayala. Immediately, my mate Peter Hastie and a few others got between them and the track shouting, “That’s exactly what they want you to do, lads!” Fortunately for everybody involved, and rather amazingly, their good advice was heeded.

Who’s taking kudos? I didn’t do anything. I was just amazed that no one in that huge crowd invaded the park, despite huge provocation.
