Gangster clubs, brutish fans, identity politics

729

The Daily Record’s political editor today published information obtained from the Scottish Government by a Freedom of Information Request, where Police Scotland note Newco “actively engaged” supporters to break lockdown rules in March this year.

Following Newco’s game with St Mirren on 6 March, Police Scotland received assurances from Newco that they would encourage fans to stay at home.  The Police memo stages, “Whilst assurances were given this did not materialise.”

The Police go on to stage Newco made “numerous statements encouraging celebration, including from the manager (Steven Gerrard).”

“Both the Manager and players actively engaged from within the stadium with fans gathered in disgraceful displays of encouragement, in solid opposition to the public safety issues arising, to their responsibilities given the privileges under which football operates, and to the commitments they had made around public communications.”

The Government should have acted on this information in March.  Football privileges were being actively flouted by one club but it took further incidents this month before Nicola Sturgeon felt it necessary to take on Newco.  This is in stark contrast to her grabbing the mic. when Celtic followed her own rules during their trip to Dubai.

You will see not contrition from Newco.  Instead, they will deflect and distract.  Let them sink in their own sewage.

Gangster clubs operate across Europe.  They stir-up identity sentiment among brutish fans and intimidate politicians who need to fish in the same identity waters.  It takes brave political leadership to stop the rot.

Going to the pictures when you’re on your holidays – a lost delight.

Stephen Boyd played Messala in Ben Hur and his performance still impresses me 62 years after the movie was released.

His real name is William Millar & he was born & raised in Glengormley, N. Ireland. He adopted a mid Atlantic accent for career purposes back in the days when a regional accent was a handicap.

He opted for a quiet life in California & preferred playing golf to making movies. He died of a heart attack while playing a round in 1977.

    Hope you’re feeling better.

    ………………

Cheers mate. Yes I have read part of Stephen Boyds Bio. So I am aware that he was Irish and called ” Billy” etc. I dont think I have ever seen him acting poorly in any Movie of his ?

Here is something that you may NOT be aware of…is it ” True”, I really dont know ?

In 1966 ( I Think ?), in he was making the Sci Film ” FANTASTIC VOYAGE”, with Co star …a certain RAQUEL WELCH.

SHE has said in interviews that she had a Dinner date with Stephen, and she REALLY Fancied him etc. as they arrived back at her hotel in a chauffer driven car, SHE asked Stephen” if he wanted to join her in her room for some drinks etc ?”

SHE claims that she planned to make love with him that night.

When asked about coming to HER Room etc, Stephen politely said ” NO thanks”, or words to that effect, while having a little chuckle. He obviously MAY have said a little more than that ?

Ms Welch has since said that ” SHE believed that Stephen had IMPLIED that he was in fact Gay”, hence why he said “No” to her advances ?

Now that may well be Ms Welch’s EGO, that was at work here, with HER saying that Stephen refused her with a cheeky smile etc….and How Dare ANY Man refuse HER, so she MAY be implying that ANY Man who refuses Her…MUST be Gay ?….Who knows ?

Ms Welch’s ” Nickname” in Hollywood was ” The BODY”…However, maybe Stephen had good reason to say ” NO”, maybe he didnt like her for any number of reasons…and NOT because he MAY be Gay ?

A truly GREAT Actor who died far too young.

Who’s taking kudos? I didn’t do anything. I was just amazed that no one in that huge crowd invaded the park, despite huge provocation.

    ………………

I was also in the middle of the Jungle that night ( Almost aged 19), and as that Athletico Mob were chopping down Celts, I can STILL Remember the ” The Surging and Push etc” of many of the Celtic support that night and my feet being ” OFF the Ground” a few times. I also STILL remember saying to my Uncle, that ” IF ONE Celtic fan runs onto the pitch to get at them, there will be MURDER” !

To this day, I STILL cant believe the remarkable restraint that Thousands of Celtic supporters showed THAT Night in 1974 ?

  3. I Emailed my MSP a couple of days ago about the Hun Players Conduct in THAT Media Video, and I also asked, ” WHY have Police Scotland NOT CONFIRMED whether the Video was Doctored/.Faked etc and I highlighted the Police Findings of ” NO Criminiality involved” , when it was CLEARLY OBVIOUS that the Hun players and staff were in FACT Breaking the Law by ” Gathering and Drinking Alcohol” in Licensed Premisies ( the Ipox Function suite/Bar), at a time when the Public are NOT Allowed to do so ” ?

He has replied by Email yesterday and has stated that he was a Supporter of The OBF Act, but it was later repealed etc. He also mentions Celtic supporters “gathering”…The Protest against Neil Lennon and the Board etc.

He states that it is up to Police Scotland to bring any Charges…NOT the Scottish Government

I WILL respond to his Email later Today, and attempt to highlight the ” Differences” between Celtic supporters and the Huns support and Staff ?

I MAY take up his offer of discussion with a Pint ( When allowed to do so ?)…but I would also welcome any CQNr’s on here to ALSO be attendance and/or to provide me with any Questions that I could put to this MSP, at any possible discussions over a Pint…should I agree to Meet with him ?

    HH.

He has ALSO advised me that he is ” Happy to Meet up for a Pint” to Discuss matters

Big Jimmy, I was aware of the Raquel/Steven Boyd story and saw that film in sixties.

I’m sure Raquel could turn the gayest of gays, surely?

  9. Anyone watch the whole of the Brentford v Bournemouth?

If so, what did you think of Tonev? I was half watching it and also watching the cup final.

I’d need to see him a bit more, though he need miss a couple of good headers.

I watched St Johnstone and Hibs in semis and final. Can’t say that anyone linked to us caught see eye, Doig, Nisbet, Porteous of Hibs and McCann of St johnstone. Also watched some of Tranmere game the other night to look at O’Connor who was ok.

  10. Go tell the Spartim on

Big Jimmy, ask him what Celtic players have been involved in a video which potentially shows religious intolerance, bigotry and is in direct breach of current COVID guidelines. You could ask him what justifies anti catholic behaviour being equated to songs sung by some at a football match, when the anti catholic behaviour is a hate crime which is illegal under numerous laws prior to and since the offensive behaviour at football act, ask him before it was repealed what was the profile of cases brought to court, how many were successful, ask him why is his first thought to blame Celtic supporters as being equally culpable, ask him how many churches of other Christian denominations have been vandalised. Ask him why police officers are being fined, suspended or worse, ask him what happened to the police officers found to have trashed toilets at Celtic park.

On a lighter note since Scottish tories have now officially aligned themselves to Triggers Broom (asking for apologies and their conspicuous silence on the anti catholic bigotry on show the other weekend) shouldn’t the club state that as a club open to all, and in support our supporters that may be catholic that Douglas Ross should not be involved in any Celtic games whatsoever, neither at Celtic Park or elsewhere?

  11. GO TELL THE SPARTIM on 23RD MAY 2021 10:07 AM

Big Jimmy, ask him what Celtic…

    —-

Douglas Ross hasn’t shut his gub since he became leader.

Not a peep from him last week.

  12. BIG JIMMY on 23RD MAY 2021 6:37 AM

SNP politicians are not allowed to criticise party policy or party colleagues.

So you’ll get nothing other than the party line from him, once he’s been told what it is.

  13. Ross is a self serving cretin and those are the positive aspects of his personality.

  14. Ziggydoc1 – Yeah I watched the Brentford v Bournemouth game.

Toney looked decent without really standing out, a busy, energetic and athletic forward. He showed up around the pitch, got stuck in and fought for the ball, while still managing to be thereabouts whenever Brentford got into the opposition box. He managed a few duff touches, passes, or shots around the box, but then most players do. What I didn’t see was close skill on the ball, the type Eddie has.

Looked like a 10-15m player. Is he 30m? Yesterday didn’t convince me, but it’s just one game and I could end up eating my words.
